Wow you guys! What an incredible collection of authors and short stories! This is a must read for diehard fans of any or all of these authors. On The Hunt by Alexandra Ivy was a sexy fun romp into the supernatural. Mika and Baily are the epitome of second chance romance. Loved every second.

Scorpius Rising by Rebecca Zanetti is going to be one of her biggest hits! It is a nail biting, ripped from the headlines kind of a read. Smart, exhilarating dialogue keeps you turning the pages into the night. Simply put I adore book one and can’t wait to get into this series again!

Phantom Embrace by Dianne Duval is a hauntingly beautiful read for her fans. A bit confusing at times however I liked this ghostly read :)

Stake Out by Hannah Jayne was a fun little read from a “new to me” author. PNR fun is all I can say about this one. The story was a quirky kind of read to me. I am sure many will like it.

All in all a great collection from some of my favorite authors and a nice introduction to a new one!

Review courtesy of Dark Faerie TalesQuick & Dirty: Four novellas, three from established series filled with magic, vampires and ghosts!Opening Sentence: “It’s no surprise that the history of the high-bloods had been lost in the midst of time.”The Review:On the Hunt: Mika Tanner is investigating the disappearance of a novice and it leads him to the doorstep of the one woman he doesn’t want to see. Bailey and Mika were in love during childhood, but she ran away from responsibility while Mika embraced his duty as a hunter Sentinel. Bailey is a healer hiding out when the novice turns up on her doorstep. She heals him and tries to hide him only to have him run away later. Mika wonders why the boy left Bailey’s and worries that she could be hurt. When the novice turns back up wounded again and Bailey is taken, will Mika be able to find her and save her.I have not read any of the Sentinel’s series, but I found this novella easy to read and follow without the normal confusion that takes place when you jump into the middle of the story. It was a fast paced and easy read, and since I liked Mika and Bailey so much it’s kind of interested me in reading the series!Scorpius Rising: Nora and Deacan used to be married, but went their separate ways years ago, but clearly the attraction and love is still there. Deacan has Nora extracted from her Hawaiian vacation because of a new contagion and she is one of the foremost microbiologists around. As they race against time to find a cure, will they survive to find love again?I have to say that hands down this was my favorite novella, it was almost like a standalone mini novel! I was on the edge of my seat and more than slightly disappointed when I reached the end of the story, just because I wanted so much more! This short story reminded me why I use to love short stories so much. This had more of a science fiction feel than paranormal, but it was so good, it just sucked you right in and at the end you wanted to immediately get on Goodreads and see if the author had a novel about these characters.Phantom Embrace: Yuri is an immortal with the ability to see the dead, which is a good thing because Cat just happens to be a ghost. As they spend more and more time together Cat and Yuri begin to fall in love, and when tragedy strikes will they be able to make it through?I am slightly familiar with the Immortal series, so I wasn’t lost with this novella at all. I thought it was an interesting take on a love story to have a vampire in love with a ghost and I really wondered how the author was going to work that all out. No, I am not going to tell you but it was a great short story that fits within the books already out.Stake Out: Nina is getting ready for fashion week, when models start dying. With the help of her brother Vlad, can they figure out what is going on? Nina and Vlad are vampires and also belong to the Underworld Detection Agency. When Wendii turns up a vampire, Nina knows this case isn’t going to be an easy situation.I have read one of the Underworld Detection Agency books, but not sure where this one falls into the situation. I think out of all the novellas this one might be the hardest to follow if you’re not already reading this series. It was a quick read and interesting murder vampire mystery.Normally I am not a big anthology fan, I used to enjoy them quite a bit, and then with so many series around it was hard to follow the short stories, or if I was familiar with the author I would find myself frustrated that I didn’t know the characters. However, I enjoyed this one quite a bit. My favorite story was Scorpius Rising, mostly because it didn’t belong to a series and so it read like a real short story with a beginning and end. So if you are looking for a few short stories to pass your time with then check this book out!!!Notable Scene:“She had several talents, but lying wasn’t one of them.”“The situation sucked, but the rightness of the moment dug deep into Deke’s gut and took hold.”“Science is about saving lives, and we both know that the military will want to weaponize and further mutate the bacteria.”“The statistics of the infected, crazy, and dead were going to give her nightmares.”FTC Advisory: Zebra/Kensington provided me with a copy of On the Hunt. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.

**I was given an ARC by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.**--------------------------------------Four of today’s most intriguing paranormal authors entice readers deep into the shadows, where vampires, immortals, and other supernatural creatures heat up the night...--------------------------------------I requested this book because of Alexandra Ivy. I've read the majority of her work, and love it. To be honest I didn't even realize there were 4 stories in this I thought it was just 2 until after I finished the first story and was curious as to why my kindle said I was only 26% finished! lolOn the Hunt did not disappoint. A strong (stubborn) hero paired with an equally strong (stubborn) heroine leads to an explosive adventure during which they both realize they had some growing up to do before they could approach the life they had hoped to have with understanding.Scorpius Rising pairs another dynamic duo who have "alpha" issues in a race against nature & time. Each has their own desired outcome for the research that is being done. Can they work out their differences? It took me a few pages to figure out what was going on in Phantom Embrace, but once I did the read was well worth it. Yuri & Cat have a relationship unlike any I'd read about before which kept me going through the whole of their story.Stake Out was a quick, fun read with a mysterious twist - no romance here, but a great read just the same. It proves that jealousy doesn't end with death. ;)

As you can see, I didn't make much progress with this book. Why? The main character in Ever Night was abducted by horrible monsters and held against her will. She's brought before a terrifying and deadly creature, but all she can think about is how handsome he is. He threatened her and forced her to agree to something against her will, but all she wants to do is comment on how attractive his mouth is (or some other body part). Fuck. That. Shit. If someone abducts me and I see freaking monsters for the first time in my life, someone's pretty face isn't even going to register in my brain. I definitely wouldn't be considering what it would be like to have sex with them, ugh. On the Hunt wasn't for me, but I can only speak for the first book since I didn't get to the others.

This is an interesting compilation of authors, I am a great fan of Alexandra Ivy and Rebecca Zanetti and it was my first time reading Dianne Duvall and Hannah Jane

Hunt by Alexandra Ivy : The Sentinels is on my favorite series list so this novella was a treat for me. Loved Mika's single minded focus on Bailey and on his mission at the same time. This Sentinel knows what he wants and nothing is going to stop him from going after it. 5 stars for Hunt

Scorpius Rising by Rebecca Zanetti : A prequel novella to her upcoming new series The Scorpius Syndrome. Since I am a fan of the TV show Helix, this one was right up my alley. Definitely going to follow this series.
    4 stars for Scorpius Rising

Phantom Embrace by Dianne Duvall : This author was a first for me and I found her writing to be a wonderful mix of classic and contemporary. Will be reading up on other titles in this series. 4 stars for Phantom Embrace

Stake Out by Hannah Jayne : Another first time author for me. Although I enjoy vampire stories, I just could not get into this one so I didn't finish it. I may visit it later since it is quite an extensive series but for now 3 stars for Stake Out.

    1) On the Hunt by Alexandra Ivy tells (The Sentinels 2.5) This is a second chance at love story for Mika and Bailey. They separated 10 years before but never forgot one another and their chemistry is just as strong when they meet again as Mika, a Sentinel Hunter, is sent out to track another sentinel. Bailey is a healer and her talent draws her into trouble that Mika might be in time to save her from. 2) Scorpius Rising by Rebecca Zanetti(Scorpius Rising 0.5)The reason I was eager to get my hands on this anthology was that I had read Corpius Striking and wanted to read the backstory. This is mostly the story of Nora and Deke though there are a number of characters introduced that end up in Scorpius Striking. 3) Phantom Embrace by Dianne Duvall(Immortal Guardians 2.5)I have not read any of the other books in this series and found the introduction and mention of so many names a bit daunting. I kind of skipped most of them to get to the story of Yuri and Cat and did enjoy reading of their story – one of an immortal and a ghost. 4) Stake Out by Hannah Joyce(Underworld Detection Agency 6.5) I have not read any of this author’s books before. This story is about a fashion designer vampire, her vampire brother and her were-bird boyfriend. The mystery of who is one-upping Nina and who is killing/turning fashion models into vampires is the basic plot. The stories were varied and interesting but not seat of your chair grab you and not let you go stories. I enjoyed Scorpius Rising most and thank NetGalley and Kensington Books for the ARC to read and review.3.5 Stars

I gave this three stars because overall, this is a fine collection but nothing extrodinary. The exception being Shannon Butcher's story - which prompted me to buy her entire Sentinel War series. I buy anthologies so discover new authors, and in this case, discovered an author I enjoyed very much.

*Book source ~ NetGalleyOn The Hunt by Alexandra Ivy ~ 3 bites and a nibbleSentinel Mika Tanner and healer Bailey Morrell were once a couple, but their differences split them up. Years later an incident with a Sentinel in training and dangerous enemy bring them together again. Can they make it work this time around? While I like this story, I didn’t like it as much as the other two I’ve read in the Sentinel series. I just didn’t have a connection with the characters and while I like Bailey, I thought Mika was too overbearing. He comes across as an ass of the first order.Scorpius Rising by Rebecca Zanetti ~ DNF 2 bites for the pandemic partMicrobiologist Nora Medina and her team have been kidnapped by their government in an effort to stem a pandemic. Too bad her ex-husband Deacan McDougall is head of the black ops that are keeping them secure. I’m not a fan of old relationships being rekindled, but the pandemic part made it interesting. Unfortunately, I discovered in Chapter 5 that Deacan had been in the Marines long after the author had called him a soldier multiple times. A Marine is a Marine (and it’s capitalized!) and soldiers are Army. I’m not interested in reading about a Marine being called a soldier, it pisses me off, so I stopped right there. Phantom Embrace by Dianne Duvall ~ 5 bitesImmortal Guardian Yuri Sokolov can see spirits and he’s been obsessed with one he keeps seeing around. Cat Seddon has been a spirit for a very long time, but there’s something about Yuri that draws her. An immortal and a spirit, what kind of relationship are they going to have? Only one way to find out.I love, love, love the Immortal Guardian series and this short story (#5.5) is a wonderful and unique addition to a really great line up. Even though it’s short it lacks nothing in development and has all of the trademarks I love from the longer books: humor, suspense, steaminess, romance, mystery, awesome action and I mentioned the humor, right? The ending is both heart wrenching and heartwarming. Don’t skip this one when making your way through the series.Stake Out by Hannah Jayne ~ No rating This series no longer interests me, so I didn’t read it.

I borrowed the audiobook from my library’s electronic collection biased mostly off my love of Gena Showalter's work and a hope to add a few more authors to my watch list. While I always try to give an author more than one chance, I was underwhelmed by the other stories.Ever Night by Gena Showalter – 5 stars.I loved the world she created and would love to read more about it, especial the stories surrounding Vasili's brother and his right hand man/monster. I love steamy stories, and in my estimation, Showalter is one of the best. The Collector (Sentinel Wars, #3.5) by Shannon K. Butcher – 4 stars. This was the only one of the other stories that peeked my interest. The story was a little forced for me, the end coming too fast with too many loose ends hastily tied. However, I’ll look into her other books before I make a firm decision on whether I like her stile or not. The world seemed to have a lot of potential.Crystal Skull by Jessica Andersen – 2.5 stars. I didn't like the world or the characters much. I didn't help that it was biased of the end of the world Mayan prophecy stuff. It may have been a better read before the beginning of the year. Again it suffered from a very forced ending.Red Angel by Deidre Knight – 2 stars. I didn't even listen to all of this one, but skipped large sections trying to find any piece that was interesting to listen to. The Southern accent of the reader didn't help. I didn't find any connection to the characters or the world. But then, I’m not a fan of books that include angels, directed by God, who threaten hell fire and damnation (or rather a fall from grace that will turn a lesser angel into a mindless daemon). Knight came of the world from this collection and I’m not sure if I will be picking up any of her other books any time soon.

I’ve never read anything by any of these authors before, so this book was a nice introduction to them. This is a collection of four novellas by four popular authors. This anthology stands on its own and you don't have to know the series in order to get the stories.

Ever Night by Gena Showalter – I give it 3.0 out of 5 stars.

On her eighteenth birthday, Rose Pascal gets pulled into a dark world - the opposite of our (light) world. Captured by the monsters that roam that world she's brought before their leader, the handsome but domineering warrior king, Vasili. On the first night, he bonds with her through a blood ritual. Every year she returns to learn more while trying to avoid the undeniable pull she feels to him. She may be the key to bringing peace between their worlds.

3 stars for the sexual tension, but other than that I was underwhelmed. The ending was so predictable and dare I say it ... lame. I'm not giving up hope that something of Showalter's will catch my eye and hold my attention.

The Collector (Sentinel Wars, #3.5) by Shannon K. Butcher – I give it 5 out of 5 stars.

Demon hunter Neal Etan seeks out antique dealer Viviana Rowan to acquire a powerful artifact that will heal his dying friend. Neal's life is also coming to a slow and painful end, until a simple touch from Viviana takes away his pain and magic surrounding them tells him that she is his savior. When she's in danger of being attacked by demons, he swoops in and saves her. Together they race to find the missing artifact but end up finding much more. The plot and action were great with very likable, well-rounded characters.

My favorite of the four and the reason why I'll be purchasing the rest of the series.

Crystal Skull by Jessica Andersen - I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars.

Great plot, very descriptive, nailbiting action. The story was very interesting with Tomb Raider meets Indiana Jones undertones. Archaeologist Natalie Albright discovers a Mayan temple housing a crystal skull. Of course she removes it which triggers the unleashing of demonic creatures from the underworld. In order to save the world from the 2012 doomsday war, she teams up with her ex to seal the hellmouth, finds out about her birthright and discovers the secrets that surrounded JT. I'll definitely look into the Nightkeepers series.

-0.5 stars for Natalie expressing her euphoria over her discovery with a litany of Oh Gods and Oh Shits. I get it, you're excited. Just yell eureka once and get over it.

Red Angel by Deidre Knight - I give it 2.0 out of 5 stars.

This story bored me. Vampire hunter Jamie Angel is seemingly cold and closed off, with a revolving door to his bedroom until Sunny Renfroe steps into his life. He senses she isn't human and makes it his mission to seduce the mystery out of her. Bad idea. She's an angel. Once he finds out, the two main characters .... it's not even worth it to continue. The 2 stars are for the passion and the supporting characters.

Overall, I loved the anthology and would definitely recommend it, or books like it to familiarize oneself with these stories and authors.

Gena shows some writing talent for a romance novel. She starts off with an interesting interaction of her characters which makes sense as you get into the story. I find the concept of dimension travelers a bit unbelievable so that detracts from my opinion of the book. The story is relatively short and somewhat disappointing.
