Fans of Sherrilyn Kenyon and the Dark-Hunter world are in for a treat! I have to admit I've missed a couple of the latest books, mostly due to wanting to reread the whole series. So when I got DRAGONBANE for review I was excited and worried. I know this series deserves to be read in order, but I wanted to dig right into reading this new release. I finally decided to go ahead and read it and I'll backtrack later one. I'm so glad I did! DRAGONBANE is fast-paced, engaging, and so very satisfying! Yes there are things left open for the next story but I found the ending to be thrilling. Fans of the series will be so glad to see this one arrive. Those who are new to the series can in fact read DRAGONBANE and not be totally lost. I'll say that there are parts that may be a bit like knowing there's an inside joke you are missing out on, but overall it works. I am eager to now go back and read the couple of books I missed, you'll find in DRAGONBANE characters to love and ones you'll love to hate. As with all of Sherrilyn Kenyon's stories there's more than one way of looking at things and you'll need to keep guessing to find the truth. I loved seeing previous characters from the series. I'd recommend DRAGONBANE to all fans of Kenyon's but also to those who love a great story with outstanding characters and plots that keep you turning the page. With this one I started it around 5pm and stayed up all night to read it, I couldn't put it down, I just had to know how it would end! Thank you Ms. Kenyon for another great story and a series that keeps me on my toes! Highly Recommended for all Keeper Shelves! - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Great story, but felt rushed at the end. Not bad.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/52.5 (audiobook) I am struggling to say something about this book in the series. I was really excited to read the dragon book, and boy was I disappointed. I love this series each book has it's own fire and spice this one just felt unseasoned. I was never on the edge of my seat with anticipation, never got that tingle in my toes at the smexy bits and I didn't develop any cares about the main characters. I could have quit reading (listening) to it at any point, I just didn't care. There was something missing, the emotional build up, the sense of urgency, or the fear of the bad, it wasn't there for me. It was duller than watching TV, and more predictable.I will continue the series, I committed to this story line but I hope that the author puts the lojo back in her characters for the next one. Note: the narrator was dong great except when they read the mother/older woman part AUUGGH how awful ! Fingernails on the chalkboard.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is now a sprawling complicated series with a lot of politics and a lot less of the fairly simple romances featured in the earlier books, this is interesting though.with a new fight ramping up and ancient enmities flare and renew themselves. When Seraphina, his wife, turns up after having rejected him centuries ago, Maxis (Max) Drago has to deal with the fact that she had concealed their children from him and that she now needs his help. There are several people out there who want him dead but he has to do something to keep his children safe, to keep his family safe and there's something about his ability to make people family and forgive that's making Seraphina wonder about her assumptions about him.And I wonder about why he forgives her, she doesn't really show a lot of remorse, it just didn't feel like enough to draw Max back, even if he was the better person and trust has to be earned. Not bad, I prefer some of the earlier ones.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Maxis is a were-dragon whose wife, an Amazon, betrayed him ages ago. When she shows up at his home, Sanctuary, looking for help, Maxis gets drawn into all sorts of trouble. This book is clearly filler in the series. The relationship between Maxis and Seraphina is incidental - readers expect a romance, so Kenyon gives them one. The real purpose of the book is to show the origins of the Were-Hunters and to set the stage for the latest war. Readers who don't like drawn-out fight scenes will be happy to discover that most of the fighting takes place offstage. I found it annoying. It's one thing if a first-person narrator blacks out and has to be told what happened when he wakes up, but it's another thing in a story being told in the third-person - laziness on the part of the author. If readers know going into the story that it's really about the origins of the Were-Hunters, they might enjoy the novel more than I did.
