About this audiobook

Master storyteller Stephen King presents the “powerful” (Time) #1 New York Times bestselling classic thriller about a housekeeper with a long-hidden secret from her past—one that tests her own will to survive.

When Vera Donovan, one of the wealthiest and most ill-natured residents of Maine’s Little Tall Island, dies suddenly in her home, suspicion is immediately cast on her housekeeper and caretaker, Dolores Claiborne. Dolores herself is no stranger to such mistrust, thanks to the local chatter and mysterious circumstances surrounding her abusive husband’s death twenty-nine years earlier.

But if this is truly to be the day of Dolores Claiborne’s reckoning, she has a few things of her own that she’d like to get off her chest...and begins to confess a spirited, intimate, and harrowing tale of the darkest secrets hidden within her hardscrabble existence, revealing above all one woman’s unwavering determination to weather the storm of her life with grace and protect the one she loves, no matter what the cost...

Delores Claiborne was my first audiobook rented from the library 20 years ago. I listened intently to the difference in breathing and speech patterns. Delores Claiborne waved me into the world of Stephen King. I laughed, cried, remembered my pain, yet continued to move forward.

Amazing narrator. Couldn’t stop listening. Different in a lot of ways from what I’ve come to expect from Stephen King but a gripping tale nonetheless. Definitely worth a read

Short and sweet! I really enjoyed this quick listen. Most of Kings are dozens of hours, so this was a nice reprieve. The voice acting was superb.

Even a book that is well written in all of the ways I value will lose me if the narration is not good. I can’t think of anyone who could have narrated this novel as effectively as Frances Sternhagen did. I had listened to it before, years ago, and enjoyed it so much I decided to repeat the experience.

Nobody writes friendships, in all their warty glory, like Stephen King. As the story unfolds, we see true friendship emerge.
So beautifully and seamlessly narrated, with exactly the right balance of humour and heart. Loved it.
