About this audiobook
In this rich, involving novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Danielle Steel, a woman's life catapults from the old to the new, as she learns to seize the moment.
Stephanie Adams is a devoted stay-at-home mother, married to a successful lawyer in northern California, in a dead marriage she stayed in for years for the sake of her children. Then, on a ski trip in Squaw Valley, her fifty-two-year-old husband dies suddenly and all bets are off.
Despite her children's grief, her own conflicting emotions and loneliness, Stephanie tries to move on, but struggles to find herself as an independent individual, after years of giving up her life for everyone else. A spur-of-the-moment road trip and fork in the road lead her to Las Vegas, the Grand Canyon, and a chance meeting-and her whole life changes forever.
She meets country music megastar Chase Taylor, who opens his whole world to her, and Stephanie is no longer the same woman, and can't be anymore. A new man. A new life. The excitement of Nashville. She discovers not only Chase, but herself. The music is bittersweet and the lyrics true in his dazzling, exotic and honest world.
As it deftly explores the complex ties between spouses, children, lovers and friends, and dances between the past and the future, Danielle Steel's moving novel brilliantly captures the shock of sudden loss, and the freedom it can bring. Here America's most beloved novelist shares the enduring power of seizing the day. Carpe Diem.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5"Country" is a true Danielle Steel book - woman-centric and talking about two extremes in characters. Stephanie is cheated in her first marriage and when she gets a second chance she doesn't want to make a mistake. At the same time she realizes "it's all about fate and destiny and opening the right door at the right time, and having the guts to walk through it." Will she take a chance on Chase Taylor the Country Music Star? That's what the book is about and it's well-written if a trifle predictable. A light book which will provide relaxed summer reading.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Country by Danielle SteelThis story is about Stephanie and she's in the marriage for the sake of the kids.At a ski trip where her husband Bill and other couples meet at Squaw Valley every year without kids enjoy the time together. She was there for the perks, visits with her daughter and everything she wanted, he was cheating on her. After the ski accident that kills him, she gets through helping the kids struggle without him.Now I understand what my mom went through, feeling like she was the fifth wheel and no longer a couple. Love hearing of her charily work. She is able to just seize the moment and do what she wants. That's how she ends up in Las Vegas! Recall our trip there and good to reminisce about the area, sounds, and sights.Love her other travels as we've visited some of the areas and enjoyed them. Like hearing of the CW singer's life and how lyrics are written for the songs and their friendship.Interesting as the story also follows her son, who's in a relationship and he knows it's not going anywhere...I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

COMMENTS: Stephanie and her husband Bill are away for the weekend on a ski trip w/ 2 other couples. This is an annual event that they six of them enjoy. Bill dies suddenly of a heart attack while skiing. Stephanie and Bill had not been happy for the last 7 yrs. Bill had an affair and things were never the same. Bill wanted to marry the woman he had the affair w/ but she went back to her husband and Stephanie agreed to resume the marriage for the sake of their children. Bill was a lawyer who provided for the family financially but was rarely around in person or emotionally, leaving Stephanie to do all the parenting. Now the children are all away at college or out on their own and Stephanie is not only free to decide what she wants to do but also has the time to review her relationship w/ Bill. She takes a wrong turn one weekend and decided to just go on a journey … ending up in Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon. She meets Chase hiking and they develop a friendship. She is a recent widow and very wary of entering into any relationship besides friendship. Pleasant story.
