About this audiobook

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Janet Evanovich, bestselling author of the Stephanie Plum series, teams up with Emmy-winning writer Phoef Sutton for a brand-new series of mysteries featuring Emerson Knight and Riley Moon, a dynamic duo with instant and undeniable chemistry.

Emerson Knight is introverted, eccentric, and has little to no sense of social etiquette. Good thing he's also brilliant, rich, and (some people might say) handsome, or he'd probably be homeless. Riley Moon has just graduated from Harvard Business and Harvard Law. Her aggressive Texas spitfire attitude has helped her land her dream job as a junior analyst with mega-bank Blane-Grunwald. At least Riley Moon thought it was her dream job, until she is given her first assignment: babysitting Emerson Knight.

What starts off as an inquiry about missing bank funds in the Knight account leads to inquiries about a missing man, missing gold, and a life-and-death race across the country. Through the streets of Washington, D.C., and down into the underground vault of the Federal Reserve in New York City, an evil plan is exposed. A plan so sinister that only a megalomaniac could think it up, and only the unlikely duo of the irrepressibly charming Emerson Knight and the tenacious Riley Moon can stop it.

Curious Minds by Janet Evanovich and Phoef Sutton is such a terrific novel of mystery, intrigue, humor, and suspense but somehow they make it lighthearted at the same time, weird I know! I loved the Stephanie Plum novels and giggled my way through all of them so I jumped at the chance for this book. I didn't disappoint at all! It is fast paced, humorous, witty dialogue, plot with so many twists and surprises it keeps you guessing constantly. The characters are colorful, exciting, and complex. There is suspense and it IS suspenseful and the book balances it with the witty, and crazy banter between the characters. It is a fun read that will draw many new fans to these great authors. Loved it. A fun ride. Crime fighting never seemed so exciting! The male main character seemed to be a more sensitive (slightly) Sherlock Holmes from the PBS series. Loved it. Received this book from NetGalley for a honest review. Thanks NetGalley!

Good enough to give the 2nd book in the series a go but Stephanie Plum this series is not. Character development is fairly weak and shallow. While there are some humorous situations, the majority seem forced and ill contrived. I just never felt Evanovich and Sutton knew exactly where they were trying to go with the characters of Riley and Emerson. The “sexual” tension was so random and thrown in; it appeared almost as an afterthought. The mystery/suspense element, however, was interesting and had enough “conspiracy theory” elements to make a reader think it believable.

The second half of the book felt more developed than the first part. As a whole, it wasn’t a bad first book in a new series. Just not what I had expected from a book authored by Evanovich.

This was just a really fun book. Emerson Knight and Riley Moon have great chemistry, and were hilarious together. The book has the same rapid fire pace and crazy dialogue as the Stephanie Plum and the Lizzy and Diesel series. Fans of these two series will love this one too.

The plot is a little convoluted and unrealistic, but the reader just needs to suspend their disbelief and enjoy the ride.

I received a free ARC from NetGalley.

If you have ever read anything by Janet Evanovich, you know her mysteries are funny, quirky and usually a little over the top. That is what I expected when I picked this book up and that is what I got. I enjoyed this first book in this new series by Janet Evanovich and Phoeff Sutton.

Emerson Knight is an eccentric billionaire who just wants to see his gold. Riley Moon works for mega-bank Blane-Grunwald, is a country girl from a small town in Texas who went to Harvard. They call her Moonbeam at the bank where she is a junior analyst and has only worked for a week. Emerson and Riley make quite a pair. He is rich, handsome, has no social skills and a crazy life style. He lives in a mansion, with a menagerie, can't keep help due to the messes they make in the house, and is known as Mr. Mysterioso. His Aunt Myra lives with him and is a force to be reckoned with herself, and his cousin lives in an RV in front of the house. Riley does not know what she is in for. She is a smart, Harvard grad who just wants to make it big in her chosen field.

When Riley is sent to find out what Emerson wants from the bank she is in for a surprise. All he wants to to see his gold, but that is not as easy as it sounds. When she is told to follow him and report back to the company about his actions, she thinks she has a bit of a babysitting job, little does she know. As they investigate more and more on the whereabouts of his gold, they find out that the Grunwald family are up to their necks in espionage. Can they stay alive long enough to find Emerson's gold?

There were times, well, more than once - where the situations that Knight and Moon got into were -as I said before - over the top-.... but- I went into reading this book with that in mind.

This is a quick enjoyable read with several humorous situations as well as over the top exploits. Go in with that expectation and you will enjoy the story, root for Emerson and Riley as well as laugh at their experiences. I am looking forward to the next on in the series.

I am familiar with Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series and its spinoffs, and this new series reminds me of the early ones in the By The Numbers series with its humor and effervescence. The plot kept me turning the pages, and I found it hard to put down.Emerson Knight is a bit eccentric, but it grows on you as the novel progresses. I suspect that his social skills suffer due to his intelligence but I do hope that in future novels of the series, he will get a clue and begin to involve Riley a bit more in the planning process. He's both an endearing and a frustrating character! Riley Moon has more patience than I would in that situation. I also suspect that there is more to Aunt Myra than what we've been told (based on a later chapter in this book) but only time will tell if that bears true. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for future books in the Knight and Moon series and can't wait to see what Emerson and Riley tackle next!Note: I received an Advance Reader Edition of this book through the LibraryThing Early Reviewers program in exchange for an honest review.

Very fun book to read, with classic Evanovich humor and hijinks. Riley is an ambitious young woman who isn't too happy when her dream job at a big bank turns into a job babysitting one of its biggest customers. Emerson is rich and eccentric, as well as brilliant and handsome. He is also somewhat clueless when it comes to dealing with people. The first encounter between Riley and Emerson sets the tone for the book. All she wants to do is let him know his money is safe after some banking glitches. She doesn't quite know what to do when he insists on accompanying her back to the bank so that he can "see his own gold." At that point, the discovery that his usual bank contact has been missing for a month and is accused of embezzling from the company gives Emerson the brilliant idea that he and Riley should investigate Gunter's disappearance. Her boss tells her to keep an eye on Emerson and report back.I thoroughly enjoyed Emerson's antics. The man is scary smart but doesn't have a cautious bone in his body. He comes up with wild plans that Riley tries, unsuccessfully, to talk him out of. Strangely enough, they nearly always work out, usually thanks to Emerson's refusal to believe that they won't. Riley is often left scrambling to keep up with Emerson, though she does have some shining moments of her own. There is also some chemistry buzzing around Emerson and Riley. The first thing that she notices about him is how good looking he is. This frequently causes some distraction on her part. Emerson's lack of social skills become more evident in these situations as he blurts out occasional comments that could be offensive if Riley chose to take them that way. Nothing really comes of it, but the potential is there for the future. The suspense of the story is pretty good. Emerson's missing gold leads them to uncover a plot that would wreak havoc on the world's finances. There are multiple twists and turns as our duo discovers fake gold bars, evades a sadistic NSA agent, is chased across the country to Area 51, and escapes death before saving the day. The bad guys' plot occasionally seems over the top, but parts of it are scarily realistic, especially the megalomaniac tendencies of the bad guys.I also really enjoyed the secondary characters. Emerson's Aunt Myra was a trip with the way she treated Emerson. She certainly has her hands full dealing with him and his menagerie. She's no simple housekeeper though, as she proves several times throughout the book. I especially enjoyed the story of her encounter with some of the goons. Her son Vern comes across as a good ole boy, but he too is more than he appears. I liked the little bit we saw of Riley's family, and how close and supportive they are of each other. I hope to see more of them in the next book.

Light-hearted fluff from the author of the Stephanie Plum series, Knight is too eccentric to be either believable or truly engaging.

Started the book after reading two non-fiction works and it seemed flighty by comparison, but only at first. Soon as I reached the second chapter I was drawn in to the jaunty trek through an intriguing mystery that had imaginative characters embroiled in a plot that sailed along so smoothly it was disappointing to reach the end. My only curiosity is the choice of title that for some reason does not grasp the underlying gold-based theme. On the other hand I cannot think of a different one.

Janet Ivanovich just knows how to right characters that engage you from the start. I love that Riley was so determined to keep her eye on what her boss sent her to do and how Emerson broke her down. I loved his quirky behavior and how his mind worked. Emerson's aunt was a hoot and I will definitely look for more Moon and Knight books.

I have to be honest. They should not have used the narrator from the Stephanie Plum series for this book. I could not get past hearing Stephanie's and Lula's voices. The plot was so-so. I will stick with the Stephanie Plum series!

The premise is just wild enough to make it a fun read. The world's gold disappearing from the New York vaults. Mysterious arrivals in Area 51. An eccentric male hero and a recent female graduate of Harvard Law and Business. Throw in a GTO and you might expect a fun ride. A fun escapist read, but not too deep.

I enjoyed the book although not as much as her Stephanie Plum series. I found the characters interactions a little strange and the pace of the story a bit slower than her usual stories. It took me almost two weeks to finish the book which is very unusual for me. As always her characters are well developed. I'm unsure if I will continue reading this series or not.

Very quick read - the number of pages doesn't represent how much writing there is in the book due to the larger than normal print and wide spacing. In terms of content, it was OK. The characters were fine, if unbelievable, but the dialogue was repetitive. If I read "crap on a cracker" one more time, I was going to stop reading. Overall, not a horrible way to pass a summer day, if you want to read something light, but I wouldn't pay full hardback price.

I started this book with the expectation of loving it, and I was not disappointed. Janet Evanovich is an author I am partial to. This book starts what will probably be a great series about a pair drawn into being detectives,Emerson Knight and Riley Moon. Knight is a wealthy eccentric and Moon is a recent Harvard grad, and they are complete opposites. The dialogue is witty, and the action paced just right. A very fun read!

I received this as an Early Reviewer. While the writing was good enough and it was a quick read, I could not really enjoy it as much as I would have thought. The humor seemed strained and the characters were almost caricatures of "quirky". I didn't really like them; I couldn't relate enough to want to. Even the side characters struck me as a little forced. I'm not sure why, I did enjoy Evanovich's other series (although they got old and I stopped reading them). I felt like I was supposed to be "charmed" by Ms. Moon but I was irked at her from the beginning for letting her boss call her "Moonbeam".

A hilarious mystery staring an unlikely duo, Knight & Moon. Knight, is a young, eccentric, millionaire with good looks and unintentional humor. His unwilling partner, Moon, is an young recent graduate from Harvard Law, and has just landed her dream job at a mega-bank. Her first assignment is to babysit Knight, to keep tabs on him and report back. All he wants is to "see his gold", and the bankers won't let him. This is my first Janet Evanovich book, and I cannot wait for the follow up on this duo. A must read, with murder, sleuthing, romance, humor, and a twist of how on earth will the get out of this one!

Wow, I think my expectations were too high when I saw Janet Evanovich's name. This book was very weak on all fronts. Either Evanovich was just dialing it in, or co-writer Phoef Sutton is a horrible writer, or both.Emerson Knight is a very wealthy, eccentric client of Blane-Grunwald bank. Riley Moon is fresh out of Harvard Business School and Harvard Law School and has just started a new job at the same bank. Riley is given the unenviable assignment of keeping Emerson happy, answering his questions, etc. Somehow this assignment leads to a mystery about a missing person, missing gold, and nefarious underdealings by who-knows-whom.First, let's talk about the main characters. Wow, zero depth. Emerson's supposed eccentricities felt incredibly forced. His odd way of looking at things, his martial arts skills, his exhorbitant wealth...All of it feels like the authors are trying to create a character like Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child's character Aloysius Pendergast in their Pendergast series. But whereas Pendergast is likeably eccentric, Emerson just seems like a character that is trying to be likeably eccentric. And Riley Moon - she's supposed to be in her late 20s, but she talks and acts like a 15-year-old. Very immature in both language (How many times do we have to hear her say "crap on a cracker"?) and behavior, she was incredibly annoying and not worthy at all of being a protagonist. As for the bad guys in the book, there was no character development at all, no interesting factoids to make the reader think "oh, that's what makes them tick." They were completely one-dimensional with no personalities, and their behavior was very stereotypical Hollywood bad guy material - and only from a bad Hollywood movie. Now, let's talk about the plot. Again, all surface and no depth. The plot moves too fast, jumping from one thing to the next. There was no time to develop plot parts in depth before moving onto the next plot element. Because of this, there was no real story line to follow. Even what little plot there was made me groan when it revealed itself; this was no interesting mystery - it was a boring, contrived plot line. The entire book was like an action movie where you're wondering what's going to happen next, not because you're engaged in the story line, but because you're just wondering what the heck is the point of everything. When I finished the book, I was puzzled as to why this book was so bad. I've read Evanovich's books before; her Stephanie Plum series is quite entertaining. I don't expect considerable depth from Evanovich's books, but I do expect good writing and a good story line. I expect to be entertained. "Curious Minds" was painful to get through; it was that bad. So, in my puzzlement, I decided to read the bio of co-writer Sutton. And that's when the light bulb went on in my head. Sutton is a Hollywood guy - he wrote for sitcoms, drama series, etc. And that's exactly what this book was like - a Hollywood story. But even Hollywood stories can be done well. This book was not.The book jacket indicates that this book is the first in a new series starring Emerson and Riley. Yikes. I can't imagine reading any more books like this one. Count me out.

I won my copy of this. Just took awhile to find time to read. Emerson Knight is looking for his gold. He wants to see it. Well, this just is not normal to go to the bank to demand to see your gold. But he is a little on the eccentic side. Sure leads him on a chase to find missing gold and evil plans are exposed. Fast past story and would recommend to others.

I was really excited when I received the email telling me that I won a copy of Janet Evanovich's book through LibraryThing's Early Reviewer program. I've been a big fan of hers for years and looked forward to reading this.In a nutshell, we have Emerson Knight, the eccentric billionaire and Riley Moon, small-town Texan who is has begun working at her dream job in Washington DC and is tasked by her boss to work with him to "find his gold." In the process, people disappear, get shot at, get chased, etc. All ingredients for a good mystery......except it wasn't. Even though there were parts that I did like, I had trouble liking the characters and got tired of all the inane dialogue.Supposedly this is the first in a new series, but I don't think I'll be reading them.

I won an ARC from Library Thing Early Reviewer Giveaway. This was a fast paced read with some entertaining bits of humor. I didn't love it as much as the Stephanie Plum series, but it was a nice light read that never got boring. I'd continue reading the series if any more come out. I've read it mentioned that it comes off like an adventure of Penny and Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory, and I do have to agree with that assessment, but that wasn't a bad thing in my opinion.

I won Curious Minds from Library Thing Early Reviewer Giveaway and excited to read it, but UGH....it is the same voice as all her other female character in a different body, location and job. And the worst part was I listened to it on audiobook, even though Lorelei King is an extremely talented narrator it was the same voices and inflections as all the other Evanovich's characters. I have no desire to finish this book, but since I am almost finished I will, but I do not think I will be reading the rest of the series.
