About this audiobook

Ex-army ranger Jim Morgan leads a team of elite mercenaries, but eighteen years ago in Paris, he was part of a black ops unit whose mission was to hunt down a rogue operative. In order to trap the criminal, Jim seduced Noelle, the man's daughter-a ruthless act that cost him the love of his life and turned her into a mortal enemy. Now he can't trust her, but he still desires her. He also needs her help . . .

Older, wiser, and unwilling to play the fool again, Noelle runs a group of highly skilled assassins. And she's just been offered the hit of the century: eliminate Jim Morgan. History gives them no reason to trust each other, but with their lives in jeopardy at the hands of a common enemy, the lines between love and hate are soon blurred. Now Noelle and Jim must face the past if they want to have a future-let alone a future together.

I could not stop listening to this book once I started! This is Noelle and Jim’s story and it was a doozy, and I hung on every moment. There were a few surprises, there were a few tears, and there was a lot of frustration with the characters, but they kept me hanging in there with them. So much history, so many feelings, such great pain, these two have been through a lot, and they wear it out there for all to see. Such heat between, such passion, so much angry, scorching hot moments, with glimpses of tenderness. This was a story well deserved of the leaders of these two volatile groups!

Review courtesy of Dark Faerie TalesQuick & Dirty: An unconventional love story for two characters who have some serious chemistry but a terrible past. Best story in this series so far!Opening Sentence: The overcast sky and turbulent gray clouds rolling in from the east made for a miserable afternoon. The Review:2016 continues to be the year of catch up for me, I have been wanting to read this novel for a while now. Midnight Action is the novel that I’ve been waiting for since the beginning of the Killer Instinct series. I’ve been fascinated by Big Bad Jim Morgan and badass Noelle’s lust-hate-love relationship since the moment sparks were flying in the first novel. I have always wondered what really terrible event happened in their past. I was not disappointed in this sexually charged romantic mystery. What I really loved about this story is that it isn’t the ideal love story. It is a messed up love story for two people who are equally messed up inside and how the many mistakes in their past keep them apart. These two characters are so stubborn and strong; they are completely made for each other.Noelle and Jim’s story goes between present time and the past. Noelle is a contract killer/mercenary and she is offered a job that she just can’t refuse. To kill Jim Morgan. She takes the job and as conflicted as she is about it, because she does want Jim dead but she wants him dead on her terms. She warns Jim that someone is out for him. Jim offers Noelle a deal, help him find out who put the contract out on him and he will make sure that he stays out of her life forever. She agrees but she really doesn’t want to help him. She wants him gone but not enough that she really kicks him out. Jim and Noelle give in to their chemistry, hoping that after all the many years that it will get the other out of their system.Emotions are running high between Jim and Noelle but also for members of Jim’s and Noelle’s respective teams. Liam is dealing with some unusual feelings towards his friend and teammate Sullivan. Liam is quite conflicted and denies his feelings so much that he would ruin his friendship with Sully. This story is ongoing and I can’t wait to see how it plays out. Also, Midnight Action sets up the relationship in the next novel with Sean Reilly and Bailey Jones who, of course, also have some kind of crazy history that I can’t wait to read more about.Noelle is independent and a loner. She is best on her own. She does like to surround herself with really hot guys though, to help her scratch an itch if she feels the need. The teenage years for Noelle were devastating. She went through stuff that no child should ever have to go through. Then compound that with the heartbreak that she suffered with Jim, it is no wonder that she decided to be a contract killer. Everything she did was because of Jim. I really felt for Noelle. She is tough and sticks to her guns, literally. She doesn’t care what others think about her. Noelle is a total Badass and she rightly earned that title. She won’t let Jim kiss her and those scenes are quite hilarious.Jim Morgan is normally cool, calm and collected. Except when it comes to Noelle. She really knows how to push his buttons but that is okay, he knows how to push hers too. Jim is a bit of an emotional wreck as the story progresses. He takes a lot of risks he otherwise wouldn’t do on a normal job.Midnight Action was an awesome novel! I couldn’t put it down. It was full of action and mystery. I needed to know how their past and future would connect. Although, Jim and Noelle don’t exactly have a conventional relationship at the ending, I’m really looking forward to see how it grows through the following novels.Notable Scene:Noelle stared up at the ceiling and waited for her heartbeat to regulate. Her thighs were sticky, her sex still throbbing from the mind- shattering orgasm. It took a while to find her voice, and once she did, it came out as dejected as ever. “Did this get me out of your system?”He didn’t speak for one long beat, until finally he muttered, “No.” Another pause. “Did it get me out of yours?”She kept her gaze on the ceiling. “No.”The mattress shifted as Jim sat up. He didn’t try to touch her. Didn’t try to kiss her. He simply slid off the bed and stood at the foot of it, still naked, still impressively erect. After a moment, Noelle shifted her head and looked at him.He looked back, his cheeks hollowing as his stubble- covered jaw went rigid. “Then I guess we’ll just have to try again later.”FTC Advisory: Signet/Penguin provided me with a copy of Midnight Action. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.

People say that the line between love and hate is very thin. This novel uses that axiom in the extreme. We finally get Morgan and Noelle's story. The anger and hatred between them crackles as hotly as their attraction. The added emotional pull of a long lost daughter makes this an excellent story. It would actually get four and a half stars rather than four. My only problem with the book is minor - making and drinking a cup of tea and throwing up twice should take more than one minute of time. I almost wish this one had been saved for the end of the series since it was so good, but it does make me anxious to keep reading the series to see if Kennedy can top herself. Not only am I now anxious for D's story, I'm also looking forward to a story for Liam and Sully.
