About this audiobook

The hunt for mass murderer Cara Lindstrom is over. FBI Special Agent Matthew Roarke has been working for this moment: the capture of a killer who savagely hunts the worst of humanity. But Roarke remains traumatized by his own near-death at the hands of the serial killer who slaughtered Cara’s family…and haunted by the enigmatic woman who saved his life.

Then the sixteen-year-old prostitute who witnessed Cara’s most recent murder goes missing, and suddenly pimps are turning up dead on the streets of San Francisco, killed with an MO eerily similar to Cara’s handiwork.

Is a new killer on the loose with a mission even more deadly than hers? In the pulse-pounding third Huntress/FBI Thrillers book, Roarke will have to go on the hunt…and every woman he meets, even those closest to him, may prove deadly.

This was a fantastic addition to the series! This is a series that really needs to be read in order since each book builds on the events from the previous installments. I have really been enjoying myself over the past couple of months as I have been working my way through the series and I am happy to report that this book was just as good as I had hoped it would be.Cara Lindstrom has been captured and is awaiting trial but her story is far from over. Agent Roarke is drawn to Cara and can't seem to stay away from her even though he knows that he should. Despite the fact that the team knows that Cara is responsible for a lot of deaths, they have only one case to move forward with which hinges on the testimony of a teenage sex worker. When their witness goes missing, a string of events begins that brings a lot of things into question. This was a story that hooked me from the very beginning. I wondered where the story would go since Cara was in custody but I had nothing to worry about because Roake and the other agents had plenty on their agenda. I like the fact that this book really made me question who the criminals really were. Cara has committed crimes but the victims of her crimes are not innocents. All of the characters felt very authentic complete with their own unique set of flaws. R.C. Bray does a fantastic job with this series. He does a great job with a large cast of varied characters. I think that his voice is really perfect for this type of book and I found that his delivery added to the excitement of the story. I found it very easy to listen to this book for hours at a time.I would recommend this series to others. It is an exciting series with great characters and an exciting mystery. I think that the profiling aspect of the story is extremely well done. I can't wait to get started on the next installment in this series.I received a digital review copy of this book from Thomas & Mercer via NetGalley and purchased a copy of the audiobook.

This is the third book in this series. In this book Cara has been caught. However, the killings don’t stop. Someone is killing pimps and this time it can’t be Cara. Once again the tension has been ratchetted up. My feelings about Cara being caught. I kept thinking that if she hadn’t risked her life to prevent Roarke’s death she would probably have not been caught. I looked at Cara and the events in her life that shaped her into the person she was. I knew that the killings she committed was wrong. However, and I keep finding myself saying that, I understood why she killed the people she did and a part of me really wanted to justify her killing. The strong theme of human trafficking is spot on to what is still happening in the world today. Alexandra Sokoloff has taken a subject that so many shy away from and put it out front. She has not solved the problem, but you can’t help but read this book and think about it and the effect it has on so many around the world. For a little while we get to look at it and think that these people have gotten what they deserved. Maybe that is wrong thinking. But, like I told my students recently when discussing a controversial issue, sometimes there is no black or white answer. The author has made the reader feel and think things they probably never would have thought before. I love books that make me have such mixed emotions. This is a series I would definitely read several more times. My husband says it is because I have a morbid side. I say it is because I know excellent writing and this is it in its finest form. You must read the entire series. I highly recommend it. Then do what I’m going to do and check out her other books.

Cold Moon by Alexandra Sokoloff brings to a conclusion the trilogy that includes Huntress Moon and Blood Moon. The trilogy chronicles the hunt and capture of serial killer, Cara Lindstrom. Mass Murderer Cara Lindstrom is captured and imprisoned. But the murders she committed seem to have taken on a life their own now. The capture of Cara Lindstrom did not end the case for FBI Special Agent Matthew Roarke. His unhealthy obsession with Cara has jeopardized his career and personal life. He begins to understand why she kills. Her murder victims have been the worst that a human being can be. Pimps and child traffickers. Rapists and pedophiles. Now she will stand trial. Herself, the sole survivor of a monster who slaughtered her family as she was a child. A monster who almost killed Special Agent Roarke. The Agent, whose life was saved by Cara's intervention. But the sixteen year old prostitute, the eye witness that places Cara as the serial killer has gone missing and the streets of San Francisco are becoming bathed in the blood of pimps and johns who rape and abuse young girls. In a modus operandi exactly like that used by Cara Lindstrom. Only Cara is in prison. As social media cries out in support of the killings and the release of Cara, the serial killer is becoming a folk hero to the young girls who no longer will be victims on the street.Roarke knows that Cara is a killer but is there a new killer on the streets. Someone who has taken up the mantle left by Cara's imprisonment? More so, with no eye witness to support his case and the public opinion swaying in Cara's defense...how long before Cara Lindstrom is released and he will have both this new killer and her to contend with.Roarke must go on the hunt again, to catch a killer and protect victims he detests. But now he senses that every woman he meets, even those he is closest to, can be the killer.Alexandra Sokoloff has written an intense and rip roaring series of novels that will have you both terrified and contemplating the social ramifications that perhaps, sometimes, a serial killer can be a arm of justice.Cara Lindstrom is a a complex and damaged character. Her childhood trauma, the violence done to her and the witnessing of her family's slaughter has left her unable to view reality as it is. Everyone who harms a child is a monster to her and she must kill them to save the innocent. As she hunts, she becomes the hunted. Agent Roarke is haunted. At times in love with the killer he hunts and appalled by her actions as well. Can he continue to chase after Cara or will he join her? In the end, whichever way he chooses, he will never be the same again. If you have not read the series yet, pick up all three books. Sokoloff has written one of the best trio of psychological crime thrillers I've come across for sometime. Her attention to the subject matter and her dedication to character development are to be marveled at and appreciated. These books will have you questioning what is right and what is wrong and pondering the deep gray waters that are the abyss in between them.A terrific read!

I've LOVED this entire series, of which this book was number 3. They really need to be read in order though. They are dark, violent, twisted, and be aware, they contain sexual abuse and human trafficking themes. The writing is brilliant, and with regards to the audiobooks, the narrator, R.C. Bray, has become one of my favorites. Can't wait for "Wolf Moon"!!!

Cold Moon by Alexandra SokoloffThomas & Mercer, 2015Crime Fiction (Thriller); 391 pgsThis book should definitely not be read without having read the first two books, Huntress Moon and Blood Moon. As it is, this review may contain some spoilers, although I tried to keep out any major plot points or twists that may occur.Author Alexandra Sokoloff continues to keep the tension high in Cold Moon, the third book in her series, even despite FBI Special Agent Roarke and his team having caught their killer. If only it were that simple. Roarke continues to struggle with his feelings for the Huntress and what the implications of that may be for his job. Law enforcement has always been his passion and yet he doubts its effectiveness--his effectiveness--at trying to root out the evil in society. To complicate matters, he is also dealing with issues of Post Traumatic Stress, something that anyone in his shoes would likely be given everything that has transpired over the course of the series. With the Huntress in jail awaiting trial, another killer appears to be picking up her mantel. Roarke and his team are not sure what they are dealing with. A serial killer? A vigilante? They know they have a job to do though, and they do what they can to try to get to the bottom of it.There's a lot of discussion about intuition and feelings that can seem to border on the paranormal, but does not go there. At time it felt like it could, but Sokoloff keeps the story grounded in reality. She does a good job of letting us see into Cara's mind and know what her thought process is.In my review of Blood Moon, I commented how I wanted a little more character development of the minor characters; I get it in Cold Moon. I really like the character of Singh, one of the FBI team members working with Roarke, in the novels and was glad to see her featured a bit more in this installment of the series. And I'm back to liking Special Agent Epps. Whew. I really do understand his frustration though. Both he and Roarke have similar goals, but it's not as clear cut for Roarke, given his ambiguous feelings toward the Huntress. There is quite a lot going on in Cold Moon. The case against the Huntress is weak at best, the only witness to the crime they can pin on her has gone missing, and then the new murders . . . Add to that Roarke's mental state, a social worker hellbent on protecting her girls, a distraught sister, the speed and influence of social media, and the growing discontent of the public. What you get is a novel that takes you on an intense ride that you just have to see until the finish--and what a finish it is.The only fault I found with the book was that, with so much going on, it felt sometimes as if I was reading two books instead of just one. There were also moments when my suspension of disbelief was put to the test, but fortunately I never left the story. As often happens with series' books there are things I still have questions about, characters left hanging--which likely will be answered in future books. I hope. So, I am always more forgiving in that regard.Overall, I have enjoyed this series, as dark as it is. It was impossible not to be pulled into the novel and cheer for the Huntress, even in her lawlessness. I want the evil to be stamped out as much as she does. If only it were that simple.

This book is about Special Agent Roarke, not about Cara, and as such the tone is different from the previous two in the series. Earlier we had the hunter and the hunted played off against each other in their minds and on the streets. Here Roarke is pretty much on his own, fighting his demons, his eerie kinship with Cara, and the requirements of his job with the FBI. Cara rattles around in his mind but she is more of an unseen presence, a story about a person he has heard of but does not know or want to know. But he does.Roarke slowly comes alive for us here. We aren't sure if we like him. He isn't sure he likes himself. All this is building toward a resolution that is likely to be painful for all of us. I just hope it doesn't happen for another few installments. In the mean time, Cara is in jail but the murders continue. Her signature is on every one but she is in jail so it can't be.As we race toward a rather breathless conclusion to the mystery, Cara's near-clairvoyance gets a bit wearing but we know, like we knew with Hannibal Lector, that it is logic, not magic. We know too that the story won't end here so we can go with the flow.I received a review copy of "Cold Moon: The Huntress/FBI Thrillers, Book 3" by Alexandra Sokoloff (Thomas & Mercer) through NetGalley.com.

This third book in the trilogy of the Blood series was good but not as good as the others. Agent Roarke has found Cara and she is in jail. Now a teen prostitute has disappeared and could possibly be a killer of pimps and johns, taking revenge for where fate has brought her in life. As Agents Roarke and Epps search for the runaway prostitute, they end up having to fight off the press and public who are making heroines of Cara and whomever else for murdering these public scum. There are lots of twists and turns in the book, things that come out of nowhere to surprise you from the very beginning to the final page. I’m hoping that Agent Roarke’s story isn’t over yet and Alexandra Sokoloff has more to put into another book to continue the saga of the Moon story.
