About this audiobook

Statistics show that fifty percent of what determines divorce is genetic temperament. And, if you are one of the twenty percent of people who are born highly sensitive, the risk of an unhappy relationship is especially high. Your finely tuned nervous system, which picks up on subtleties and reflects deeply, would be a romantic asset if both you and your partner understood you better. But without that understanding, your sensitivity is likely to be making your close relationships painful and complicated.

Based on Elaine N. Aron's groundbreaking research on temperament and intimacy, The Highly Sensitive Person in Love offers practical help for highly sensitive people seeking happier, healthier romantic relationships. From low-stress fighting to sensitive sexuality, the book offers a wealth of practical advice on making the most of all personality combinations. Complete with illuminating self-tests and the results of the first survey ever done on sex and temperament, The Highly Sensitive Person in Love will help you discover a better way of living and loving.

This book can be more philosophical than scientific at times, along with at times what personally feels like strange metaphors and poetry and subjective views, BUT there were many nuggets of helpful information and thought provoking concepts for my HSP self and my non HSP partner I had never been able to put to words before. It’s helped me reframe and shed new light on difficulties I’ve had with relationships since a kid that I had never truly solved with years of psychotherapy. For these reasons, I recommend it for anyone that might be an HSP (and can handle philosophical writings), which is also something I had never heard of before this book. I definitely would take what you need as a filter and not a sponge, get through the parts you may not identify with or agree with, laugh at the parts that go too far, keep going though because there may be a gem around the next corner for you.

I enjoyed the depth psychology and research hybrid. It's interesting thinking within the labels of hsp and non hsp. I ll consider more of her books :)

Okay so this has some bits of woowoo throughout, and the entire last 10% is some serious woowoo, and I definitely could have lived without all the dream interpretation stuff. But also, I feel so seen! There were some really interesting and personally validating sections, and if I was reading this on paper I definitely would have been highlighting. Also, while I relate to the information processing and sensory overload aspects of HSP greatly, I don't relate to the somewhat emotionally fragile description of the book blurb, so it may still be worth a read if you don't either.
