About this audiobook

There will be a battle, and you will need to protect your heart.

Kjell of Jeru had always known who he was. He'd never envied his brother or wanted to be king. He was the bastard son of the late King Zoltev and a servant girl, and the ignominy of his birth had never bothered him.

But there is more to a man than his parentage. More to a man than his blade, his size, or his skills, and all that Kjell once knew has shifted and changed. He is no longer simply Kjell of Jeru, a warrior defending the crown. Now he is a healer, one of the Gifted, and a man completely at odds with his power.

Called upon to rid the country of the last vestiges of the Volgar, Kjell stumbles upon a woman who has troubling glimpses of the future and no memory of the past.

Armed with his unwanted gift and haunted by regret, Kjell becomes a reluctant savior, beset by old enemies and new expectations. With the woman by his side, Kjell embarks upon a journey where the greatest test may be finding the man she believes him to be.

Suspense, romance, impossible choices, grand surprises…this book wraps them all in lilting prose that paints indelible mental pictures and sweeps the reader deep into the story. It hurt to stop listening and I couldn’t wait to begin again.

In stark contrast to the previous volume "The Bird and the Sword", this one had realistic plot, vivid descriptions and in depth unfolding of the characters. Most of the time the book felt like a welcome companion, and I found myself wanting to end quickly what I was doing so that I could come back to it.

In book two of The Bird and the Sword Chronicles, the story focuses on Kjell, the bastard older brother of the King of Jeru. He was mostly happy with who he was. He hates his gift of healing but loves being a soldier, a warrior, and it was on his search for the last of the Volgar, he finds a woman who does not remember her past, but is gifted with sight, and she knew he was coming.

Sadly, this book wasn't as good as the first. This one felt as if it was rushed and focused too much on the romance part, so with that, this book isn't suitable for readers under sixteen. It's not graphic but pushes on that boundary.

The author is great with descriptions, and those move the story along quickly, painting a great picture of the world and the people who live in it.

Most of the action points were done too quickly. 'It happened, it was done'. More depth would've made these scenes more intense, thus more enjoyable.

If you want to be swept away into a magical world of unbelievable lyrical prose look no further than this beautiful book. The words were so poetic that at times they brought tears of awe to my eyes at the vulnerability of emotions that they captured. Amy Harmon is truly amazing.
