About this audiobook

The thrilling conclusion to the million-copy, Wall Street Journal bestselling Kingfountain series from Jeff Wheeler.

A devastating disaster has left the Forbidden Court in ashes, its fountains destroyed, and its magic at risk. It was destined as the site of Trynne Kiskaddon’s coronation as empress. Now, all Trynne can imagine is the roar of flames, the cries of Gahalatine’s people, and the smell of cinders in a city gone dark. Tragic as the threat to Kingfountain is, it’s nowhere near as foul as the treachery posed by Morwenna. Saboteur, conspirator, and full-blood sister of the king, she is prepared to set forth a wave of destruction that will eliminate everything that stands between her and possession of the throne.

But Trynne has her weapons, too—her magic, her resilience, her skills at intrigue, and especially, Fallon. The man who once swore his allegiance to Morwenna now stands by Trynne’s side as they venture into the unknown to protect those they love, reunite with a family scattered by diabolical forces, and safeguard a kingdom…as well as the destiny the Fountain has for each of them.

Yet again another great book with quite a bit of crisscrossing from his other series

I liked this book more than the previous ones, but both in this and the rest, I found it disturbing to listen to "magical" words in the Kingdom, that are Greek or have purely Greek roots (Aspis, Hetaera, Kineseirem etc) 'cause it felt ingenuine, and many were not used according to the true meaning of the word. The pronunciation was the worst part, it made my skin crawl. Also, parts of the book borrowed elements of other cultures, without much effort to conceal or blend it. In short, there's a difference between borrowing and copying. All that aside, I found myself invested in the plot, and never got bored once. The characters' arc is very exciting, as many of them you know since birth. However, they are not very bright at times - SPOILER ALERT - like when king 'Drew decided he couldn't kill his traitor sister that practically destroyed his army, put his wife and friends in danger and planned to get rid of him, because of sentimentalities. And everyone on the council agreed, without even one pointing the obvious - that a woman of such power and malice, even when exiled and stripped of all priviledges, would be a constant threat to him and his family. Generally speaking they are all enjoyable books, the plot is flowing, and mystery, intrigue and dilemmas are constantly present. I would be interested in listening to the rest of the series, hopefully with actually creative magic words this time.

I have to admit I spent 95% of this book miffed I was reading the author write the same love story of the first trilogy all over again, except then it all changed in the end, with some brilliant, honorable, and lovingly gentle twists that surprised and pleased me.

I loved the use of the different world, which I assume is to the earlier nine books he has but I haven't read. I do wish he'd actually used the Oath Maidens more after their creation, as i felt they got massively sidelined after being the important thing the main character was supposed to do, be, and train others to be/do.

I can stop listening at every spare moment I have. Now I am ready to listen the Legends of Muirwood Trilogy.
