Das menschliche Leben ist eine Abfolge von Entscheidungen. Der Mensch steht daher unausweichlich vor der Frage nach dem richtigen Handeln. Hier sucht die Ethik nach einer begründeten Antwort. Kriterium des richtigen Handels ist die Selbstzwecklichkeit des Menschen. Verantwortbar ist ein Handeln, das den berechtigten Anspruch der Betroffenen auf ihr Glück und die dazu erforderlichen Güter und Rechte respektiert. DIE CHARAKTERISTISCHEN EIGENSCHAFTEN MORALISCHER URTEILE Moralische Probleme haben es mit Entscheidungen zu tun. Wenn wir ein moralisches Urteil fällen, behaupten wir, dass es richtig ist, in einer bestimmten Weise zu handeln, oder dass wir in einer bestimmten Weise handeln sollen. Der moralische Wert ist ein absoluter Wert, der durch keinen anderen Wert außer Kraft gesetzt werden kann. Die philosophische Ethik fragt also nach der in einem uneingeschränkten Sinn richtigen Entscheidung oder nach dem in einem uneingeschränkten Sinn richtigen Handeln.
