Jane Austen
Jane Austen was born in 1775 in rural Hampshire, the daughter of an affluent village rector who encouraged her in her artistic pursuits. In novels such as Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield Park and Emma she developed her subtle analysis of contemporary life through depictions of the middle-classes in small towns. Her sharp wit and incisive portraits of ordinary people have given her novels enduring popularity. She died in 1817.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Amazing book!! I didn't expect I'd like it so much!!
The dramatic reading with a narrator for each character took me on a whole journey.
A shame not all the narrators have the same quality of audio recording, though. Some characters' voices were muffled and surrounded in static, I could have sworn Mrs Jennings was never in the room, but instead constantly on call from an old cellphone. It's jarring and distracting.
(And Mrs Dashwood, the emotional woman she's been described as, was given a most monotone and inexpressive voice. Almost robotic. That was quite weird)2 people found this helpful
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I liked the characters having their own voices. It was more like listening to an old-timey radio show than an audio book. 4 stars because some of the voices were weird, however. Mrs. Dashwood sounded like Siri or an AI voice. Every time her part came up it threw me off being immersed in the story because the voice was so unfitting...
