About this audiobook
All her life, Annie Prideaux has suffered through her brother’s constant practical jokes. But Jake’s last joke is one too many, she decides when he sets her up on a blind date with his friend Drew—neglecting to tell his straight sister one tiny detail: her date is not a man, but a lesbian.
Annie and Drew decide it’s time to turn the tables on Jake by pretending to fall in love with each other.
At first glance, they have nothing in common. Disillusioned with love, Annie focuses on books, her cat, and her work as an accountant while Drew, more confident and outgoing, owns a dog and spends most of her time working in her beloved vineyard.
Only their common goal to take revenge on Jake unites them. But what starts as a table-turning game soon turns Annie’s and Drew’s lives upside down as the lines between pretending and reality begin to blur.
Something in the Wine is a story about love, friendship, and coming to terms with what it means to be yourself.

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I don't like lesbian/straight girl romances. They never work out on real life and I Ca T imagine why any lesbian would want to date a straight girl anyway. I Love lesbian/lesbian romance, not this.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Not the best book by Jae but worth a listen. The narrator was a little difficult to listen to. The ending was very abrupt and had no closure. Overall cute story but Jae has done much better work.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Beautiful story until it ended without finishing it. Not talking about a sex scene. It just felt empty without more emotional character details. After thinking further, the end felt like the author got tired of the book and just let it go unfinished.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Meh. The straight girl meets the gay lady. The next 95%(ish) of the book is this:
I'm straight. But there's this lady. And these feelings. But I'm straight. Thoughts of this lady. Dudes are lame, but necessary, right? Right? Anyone? I can't stop thinking about this lady...
Meanwhile, as is expected, the lesbian falls for the relatively inexperienced straight girl. Can we be friends? Woe! Woo? Woe. Woo. What?
I enjoyed the ending, as predictable as it might be (you do the math); but I thought it was the realest part of the book (given my own limited experience in lesbian-land). The scenery and characters are enjoyable and fun to get lost in, but it's a struggle not to get tripped up by the trope all over the place.2 people found this helpful
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I thought I had already listened to all of Jae's work on here so I was so pleased when I found out about this earlier work of hers. Once again Jae knocks it out of the park and sticks the landing. 5/5

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Classic angsty toaster oven with nice chemistry between the MC's. Not my favourite from Jae, but I enjoyed it. Slightly different from her usual writing. Was expecting to end with the characters finally having sex, but honestly...not needed. Having them riding off into the sunset with Annie accepting her new path in life with pride was a proper ending.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/53.5 stars. This is one of the last novels by Jae that I haven't read yet and I was looking really forward to it.
Overall, I liked the book.
The two mains are solar opposites and to be honest, it's not easy to like Annie. It's not that she's unlikeable, it's more that her uptight, insecure behaviour and micro managing demeanor doesn't make it easy to relate to her. Plus, it's really important to her what others think and say.
Drew on the other hand is a real darling.
It's good to see that she's a good infuence on Annie, who really steps up to her game.
I was wondering about what's in it for Drew, but I realized that with Drew's history of losing her parents and her friends, who are well meaning but are not always helping, Annie is good for Drew because she's really loyal and dependable.
All in all, this was a coming out novel more that anything, focusing on Annie's processes and thoughts. I really apreciate Jae's writing, but sometimes she tends to overly Focus on certain aspects or processes (in this case the coming out, and the asexual part in Perfect rhythm). In this case I would have preferred a greater focus on Drew and their relationship and less on Annie's troubles with the coming out.1 person found this helpful
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I enjoyed the book and thought Jae finally has another audio out, its gotta be better than the other one and it was. The narrator's voice does take a bit getting used to but she does a good job. This book is about, I want to say the romance but that word doesn't fully fit, not sex so there is none in this book. If you are a fan of Jae then you will enjoy this audio or book if you prefer.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The narrating is excellent. The content has more to desire. It elicited strong anticipation in the beginning but wasn't really successful sustaining that interest. Still, a strong book in this genre.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The story started off wonderfully and I expected to love it, but then it kind of ground to a halt. For long stretches the characters seemed to have the same thoughts and conversations over and over until it became frustrating. Also, all of the growth and discovery was on one side. One of the characters was basically perfect and knew what she wanted, and just spent the book being patient.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I love it. A bit frustrated that there is no sex scene at this end but to be honest it is not necessary. I really can relate ly self to one of the main character.

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Definitely not one of Jae’s better books. Would not bother.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Cute story but I have to admit it was a bit disappointing. Like most of the other commenters here, I agree that the book started off strong and then fizzed out as it neared the end. The narration was also quite frustrating.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Eh! not so good! I liked the narrator though. I Didn’t feel any chemistry between the main characters! Okay story! No romance:(
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This book is great but thought there would have been a romantic scene at least at the end.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5No chemistry at all. Such a waste of time. Ok story!
