About this audiobook

A heartwarming, hilarious novel for anyone who has ever had a family, from the author of Lift and Separate.

After a lifetime of marriage, Marcy Hammer is ready to get herself unhitched—just as everyone else in her life is looking for a commitment. Her new boyfriend, Jon, wants to get serious, and her soon-to-be ex-husband, Harvey, is desperate to get back together. When her headstrong daughter announces a secret engagement to Harvey’s attorney, Marcy finds herself planning her daughter’s wedding as she plans her own divorce.

Now with two huge events on the horizon, the indomitable Marcy soon realizes that there’s nothing like a wedding to bring out the worst in everybody. From petty skirmishes over an ever-growing guest list to awkward confrontations with her sticky-fingered new in-laws, pulling off the wedding is going to be a challenge; seeing her divorce through is going to be a trial. And trying to make everyone happy might prove to be impossible—because in the end, Marcy alone must make a choice between something old and something new.

Heartwarming, laugh out loud funny, rings oh, so true. Very enjoyable. I started out listening to the audiobook version of Husbands and Other Sharp Objects and at first I really liked it. The narrator reminded me of someone I usually enjoy in movies or television and Marcy was pretty interesting. Then I’m not sure what happened but I wasn’t enjoying the narration and starting to dislike Marcy. I decided to give it a final shot and try the written version, and I’m very glad I did. I was having so much fun reading that once I got started I read straight through to the end.Marcy’s husband betrayed her so they are separated and as far as she is concerned they are through. She’s dating someone she’s known for a long time but thinks since husband Harvey is the one who ruined things he’s the one who should file for divorce. So she’s stuck in limbo – she’s gotten a job after many years, really cares for her new guy Jon, and wants to move out of the family home into a house she’s seen and loves. But she doesn’t want to upset her grown children or move too fast so she compartmentalizes everything, which results in everything being a halfway effort and not very satisfactory.Youngest daughter Amanda becomes engaged and turns into Bridezilla, Jon is pushing to meet her children but they aren’t ready, Harvey is pushing to get back together, and Marcy’s close friends Dana and Candy have their own drama and need her support.Marcy’s innermost thoughts, her conversations with her deceased Jewish mother and the remarks she makes to people are hilarious – and at times surprisingly poignant. When I first started listening to the story I thought she was harsh, selfish, and a snob. Nothing could be farther from the truth. This is a woman who is very much a product of her time and heritage and trying to find her way in this very different world she now finds herself in. She cares, a lot, and will do anything for her family. But she has to make up her mind just how far she is willing to go and who she wants to be when she looks in the mirror in the future.Thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend.

I was in the mood for a fun, witty, chick-lit book and this did not disappoint. So far, every single book I've read by Lake Union Publishing has been a win. Marcy Hammer is one of the wittiest personalities I've read in a while. I wish I had read Lift and Separate first since the events in her first book happen chronologically but it had no effect on my ability to follow what was going on in this book. I loved the characters--especially Marcy's mother who is already deceased and only a voice in her head through the entire book. I also loved the friendships with Dana and Candy, the familial relationships with Marcy's children, and the romantic relationship with John. Every woman who has ever been cheated on or left by her husband will be able to relate to the struggles and personal growth of Marcy. I'm also a sucker for happy endings and this book left me feeling warm and fuzzy inside. Thank you to netgalley and Lake Union publishing for a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

What a fun book to read. It's the continuation of Marcy's story from Lift and Separate and could be read as a stand alone but knowing her total story makes this book even better.Marcy and her cheating husband, Harvey, have split but now he wants to get back together. Her boyfriend Jon has become very special to her but now he wants more of a commitment. Add together three grown children, a wedding and a bridezilla and you have a story that's both humorous and touching as Marcy tries to keep everyone in her life happy. Going through a divorce and planning her daughter's wedding at the same time is making Marcy crazy and she is surrounded by some very strange family members - thank goodness for her two good friends that are helping her maintain her sanity. Plus the voice of her deceased mother keeps running through her head telling her how she should act. This is a hilarious look at at 50ish year old woman trying to find herself again and decide how she wants to live her life in the future. I highly recommend it.Thanks to the Great Thoughts' Great Reader Ninja Review Team for the review copy. All opinions are my own.

My Review of “Husbands and Other Sharp Objects” by Marilyn Simon RothsteinOMG!! WOW!! Kudos to Marilyn Simon Rothstein , Author of “Husbands and Other Sharp Objects” for such a witty, humorous, heartwarming, entertaining and wonderful story. I had my inhaler on hand, since I have found that Marilyn Simon Rothstein in my humble opinion is the “Queen of Humor” I laughed so much that I cried, and did have to use my inhaler. “Husbands and Other Sharp Objects” is the book that follows “Lift and Separate”, also by Marilyn Simon Rothstein. This can be read as a stand alone, but both books are just so enjoyable. The Genres for this book are Fiction, Women’s Fiction and Humor.Marilyn Simon Rothstein describes her colorful cast of characters as complex, complicated, quirky, dysfunctional, and mostly likable. There are some character that are a few cards short of a deck, and that makes this story more delicious. I love the way Marilyn weaves the storyline and the characters together. The question is to commit or not commit. Marcy Hammer is now separated from her husband Harvey, the head of a global brassiere company. Harvey is now expanding into men’s briefs, and business looks really good. Harvey is really apologetic and sorry for his past mistakes, and wants Marcy back. Marcy is content in a new job, and even has a boyfriend that really makes her happy. Jon, would like more of a commitment, but Marcy is not divorced yet. Marcy has some wonderful friends that offer emotional support. So everything is going well in Marcy’s life? What more could you ask for? It seems Marcy’s youngest daughter Amanda is getting engaged to Harvey’s attorney. Amanda’s future mother in law has some annoying issues. Suddenly Amanda has turned into “Bridezilla” and the wedding planning and choices are getting stranger. This event looks like it will be “The Wedding from Hell”, if Amanda’s older sister and brother are still speaking to her.I appreciate that the author discusses the importance of family, friendship, friends, loyalty, love and hope. I would highly recommend this charming, delightful, humorous novel for those readers that enjoy Women’s Fiction and Humor. I received an Advanced Reading Copy of this novel from NetGalley for my honest review.
