Maggie returns in this fourth and final chapter-book devoted to her adventures, once again helping Bob the Stablehand care for the wounded magical creatures of the Enchanted Forest. As she cares for an injured flying pig and her little piglets, Maggie finds many things begin to go wrong. It doesn't take long to figure out that her malicious stepbrother Peter is trying to sabotage her... but why?Like its immediate predecessor, Maggie and the Unicorn, I found Maggie and the Flying Pigs moderately more engaging than the first two entries in E.D. Baker's Magic Animal Rescue series, which left me almost totally indifferent. I like the idea of these books - rescuing and caring for magical creatures sounds fantastic - but somehow this series just doesn't work for me. I'm not sorry to have read it, but I also don't highly recommend it. Perhaps Paula Harrison's The Secret Rescuers series, which seems to have a similar story idea, is better...?
