About this audiobook
Gillie Trewlove knows what a stranger’s kindness can mean, having been abandoned on a doorstep as a baby and raised by the woman who found her there. So, when suddenly faced with a soul in need at her door—or the alleyway by her tavern—Gillie doesn’t hesitate. But he’s no infant. He’s a grievously injured, distractingly handsome gentleman who doesn’t belong in Whitechapel, much less recuperating in Gillie’s bed . . .
Being left at the altar is humiliating; being rescued from thugs by a woman—albeit a brave and beautiful one—is the pièce de résistance to the Duke of Thornley’s extraordinarily bad day. After nursing him back from the brink, Gillie agrees to help him comb London’s darker corners for his wayward bride. But every moment together is edged with desire and has Thorne rethinking his choice of wife. Yet Gillie knows the aristocracy would never accept a duchess born in sin. Thorne, however, is determined to prove to her that no obstacle is insurmountable when a duke loves a woman.
Lorraine Heath
Lorraine Heath always dreamed of being a writer. After graduating from the University of Texas, she wrote training manuals, press releases, articles, and computer code, but something was always missing. When she read a romance novel, she not only became hooked on the genre, but quickly realized what her writing lacked: rebels, scoundrels, and rogues. She’s been writing about them ever since. Her novels have been recognized with numerous industry awards and have appeared on the USA Today and New York Times bestseller lists.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Good story but recording was terrible and kept skipping parts.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Yes! I enjoyed this book. I am happy they did not find out that Gillie was an aristocrat. It’s better that she did not know her history literally and was accepted as she was and not because she found out she was a noble woman. I didn’t think I would call in love with the dowager duchess but I did. Great book
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Acho que é meu favorito dos Trewlove! Gillie encanta demais.

He was the ideal man - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I really enjoyed the story line. Interesting beginning and characters
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Well written. Nice flow. Loved all the main and secondary characters. The characters were well developed. The story left me wanting more. This is my favorite book of the series.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Rounded up a little to 5 stars. This handled the class differences trope really well. It had several things that I like in a historical romance, a woman with a career, a Duke, a close family, the forced proximity of tending to the wounded, steam. And I rarely cry from a story, but I did dab my eyes late in the story when they're both convinced that they can't be together despite their love (even though obviously they definitely will end up together), I still felt their conflict and tender feelings.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5When Thorne, Duke of Thornley, is attacked and left for dead on Gillie Trewlove's tavern steps, she takes him in and nurses him back to health. Thorne was there to look for the woman who left him at the altar, and Gillie agrees to help him. An attraction grows up between the two, but they are from two very different backgrounds. This story was just okay. It seemed very slow and not much happens except a lot of angst about their stations in life. He's a duke, she's a bastard left on a doorstep in Whitechapel. His mother doesn't like her because he needs to marry and get an heir on someone who's legitimate and of his class. Then, of course, everything switches. Then there's a crisis at a ball, then everyone, even the haughty mother, change their minds around again, even though none of the underlying circumstances have changed. I don't know, I've read a couple of Ms. Heath's historicals in the past and felt the same way about the books, just meh, but then I try again with the same result. I guess this author is just not for me.
