About this audiobook

They call me the Bad*ss of Hockey. The Beast of the Northeast. And I'm not just referring to my stick play on the ice.

As Captain for the Boston Blades, I've spent years working toward bringing home the Stanley Cup.

But when the owners sell us out to Hollywood, suddenly we're not just playing for thousands of fans, we're cracking open our lives on a new reality show, Getting Pucked. They want all the dirty details, and I'd rather take a puck to the gonads than peel back the curtains on my life.

Not when it could take me out of the game for good.

I agree to sign the contract on one condition: they hire New England's reigning queen of media to call the shots.

Holly Belliveaux Carter.

The woman who drives me to insanity and turns me on with nothing but a quirk of her lips and the sound of her laugh. The only woman I've ever loved.

The problem? She's my ex-wife.

Contains mature themes.

A second chance, ice hockey romance where he pines for her.

There are a lot of feelings in this book with the characters being more mature. It's evident in the writing style as well which comes across as a bit different to other younger characters. Jackson and Holly didn't have a toxic divorce which was a nice element to the story, they divorced because they grew apart. Their lives didn't change massively since they both worked with each other and ran in the same circles. This meant that when a new contract came along for Jackson he wouldn't move on without Holly. Bringing in the added element of forced proximity.

It was great seeing how even as a romance writer, it's realistic to see that not all characters are going to have the perfect relationship that stands the test of time. But it was great to see two very mature and likeable characters get to try their luck again. There's not a lot of tension and it's possibly because of their past. They know how each other ticks and why waste time when they've already wasted so long. Holly supports Jackson during a difficult time in his life and Maria wrote this really well to make others more aware of the issues that come from contact sport. It was a touching story.

The story could have been shorter and was a bit slow but the storyline was enjoyable and had some intriguing topics. Some of these topics seemed to jump out of nowhere at times but then developed well into the remainder of the storyline. Second-chance romances always miss the mark a little bit for me but this one was a higher-end scoring. There are a lot of side characters involved and they add a lot of humour to the book, especially with the group chats.
