About this audiobook

Dex Stanton has never had much time for book learning. He's been too busy helping to provide for his family. Now that he's heading West, Dex is hoping to start a family of his own. However, his attempt to acquire a mail-order bride fails miserably when the lady writes back ridiculing his terrible spelling. Rachel Oliver may be the last person he wants to know what a dunce he is, but she's also the smartest woman in town — and it's clear he needs her help.

Rachel Oliver has lingered in town for three years secretly mooning over Dex Stanton, but now, she's done. If the fool wants to write to a mail-order bride company, so be it. Once she begins giving Dex lessons, however, Rachel realizes she may not be prepared to give up just yet.

As their time together runs short, can two of the most stubborn people in town set aside their pride long enough to find love?

Love by the Letter includes an extended sneak peek at A Bride for Keeps. Love by the Letter is the prequel novella for the Unexpected Brides series.

Dex Stanton had to quit school when he was 12 to help his family run the farm. Now he's all grown up and heading west, and is hoping to start a family of his own. So he tries the mail-order bride route, but since his spelling and reading aren't good, that seemed to fail. Rachel is the last person he wants to know how 'stupid' he is, but she's also the smartest woman in town--and he needs her help to read and write better. Although Dex has loved Rachel from afar, he would never presume a 'smart lady' could possibly be interested in himRachel has secretly loved Dex Stanton for years, although he always seemed to be distant from getting to know her. She begins giving Dex lessons, and the two of them have a hard time being near one another without revealing their feelings for each other.Time is running out and Dex is leaving town. I loved how the author brought this story to a close and brought these two people together. The story is a pre-quel novella, for the "Unexpected Brides Series". I look forward to reading these stories soon, as "A Bride for Keeps", the next book, will show what happens to one of the other characters in this novella.

I thought this was a very well written, interesting novella. If I could say anything at all negative about it, that would be that it is too short. Knowing that is a prequel to the Unexpected Brides series, that should be expected. I was really getting into the story and the characters and it was over. I can not wait to read further and see what happens to them. I love the way Melissa Jagears writes.

Rachel was a bright young woman who had an oppurtunity of a life time to attend college when it wasn't normal for women to attend college. Dex was a backwoods farmer who could barely read and write. But what drew the two together was a deep love for the person they were on the inside, not how much smarts the other possessed.

This was a short, cute and romantic novella about a man trying to attract a mail order bride. The time had come for him to leave his town with the wagon train and head toward his new homestead and he still was short a bride. It appeared to him that perhaps his writing skills needed some fast help. He approached the woman who he had a childhood crush on for that help. He get a bit more help than he had planned on. Again this was a cute and romantic story.
