About this audiobook
The Way I Heard It presents thirty-five mysteries “for the curious mind with a short attention span.” Every one is a trueish tale about someone you know, filled with facts that you don’t. Movie stars, presidents, bloody do-gooders, and villains—they’re all here, waiting to shake your hand, hoping you’ll remember them. Delivered with Mike’s signature blend of charm, wit, and ingenuity, their stories are part of a larger mosaic—a memoir full of surprising revelations, sharp observations, and intimate, behind-the-scenes moments drawn from Mike’s own remarkable life and career.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I’ve missed the voice of Paul Harvey like no other in the past decade and still recall so many of his Rest of the Story accounts. A visit with Mike Rowe is as close as can be with the morning commutes with Mr. Harvey, and I’ve enjoyed his tales in these times. Mr. Rowe’s sense of humor is fantastic, and I’ve recommended his book several times even before I could finish it.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Excellent, very enjoyable. Short chapters that give you poignancy, humor & little known facts. Mike's s self deprecating humor will leave you laughing out loud. He's a great story teller & a quick wit. Loved it!

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Easy listen. Humorous (as expected). Rowe does an excellent job reading his own material for audio. Sometimes it's nice to listen to something this uncomplicated without a bunch of characters to keep track of.... Recommended.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I really enjoyed the stories of famous people and Mike too! However, I was listening with my parents and there were a few awkward moments.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I enjoyed the heck out of this book...lots of similarities between Mike and my late dad. It was so enjoyable hearing it.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The way Mike can tell a story and intertwine life in a never ending fascinating way is amazing. His voice is the current Paul Harvey of our generation, the appreciation I have for his ability to always to tell it in all honesty is extremely refreshing.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Excellent book from The Dirty Jobs man himself. He had me with Paul Harvey. Highly recommended...SLT
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I have to say this was the best audiobook I have listened to in quite some time. Part of that is due to Mike Rowe's voice. The other part is due to all of the fabulous stories included in the book. I was constantly telling my husband all the cool little tidbits I learned. I pride myself on having lots of little-known knowledge and Mike's book added tremendously to it. In fact, I now have to go look up more info on a couple of the people that were mentioned in it. Thank you Mike Row for several enjoyable days of driving to and from work listening to your soothing voice.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A collection of short stories from Mike Rowe’s life, or as he heard it in third person. A mix of historical tales and with a little splash of autobiography, narrated by Mike himself with his whiskey golden voice.
I had a great time listening to this at my own pace on my commute to work to pass time time. I am almost 24 years old, but I know these stories will have great replay/rereading value as I get older and my values change. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Great book, plenty of laughs & some great insights too.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Paul Harvey would’ve been proud! Very nice job, Mike!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Great book, very entertaining but also very educational. Very sad the book ended wanted to keep listening to the stories. Felt like sitting and listening to my grandpa tell stories.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is a very good audiobook narrated by the author who is a professional radio and TV voiceover artist is about 35 interesting stories kind of reminiscent of the late radio commentator Paul Harvey and his feature called the rest of the story enjoyable reading or listening I should say
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Sort of like "The Rest of the Story" with a different twist. There are stories of various people where the identity is hidden till the end, some you may guess. Then Mr. Rowe will add why he thought of this person. It is a good read and very enjoyable.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5If you liked Paul Harvey's "The Rest of the Story," you'll like this. I'm a huge fan of Mike Rowe and everything he does. "The Way I Heard It" mixes in his favorite stories from his podcast (so if you've heard those episodes, you'll be familiar with the book versions) along with autobiographical anecdotes that in some way tie in to the "mystery stories" you just read. Much of this I knew too because again, I'm a fan. But it's still a fun read and well worth a spot on your bookshelf.
