About this audiobook

In the third book of the popular Seaside Café Mysteries, Tide and Punishment, it’s not all Christmas sweets, tinsel, and wrapping paper. Everly Swan will have to follow a string of clues before it’s too late—because no one dreams of a killer Christmas ...

It's Christmastime in Charm, North Carolina, and while Everly Swan would prefer to focus on decorating her iced tea shop and café for its first holiday season, Great-Aunt Fran has decided to run for mayor against her long-time nemesis. But when the other candidate turns up dead
just before the first scheduled debate, all eyes turn to Fran as the suspect with the most obvious motive.

As a rare blizzard threatens to bury all evidence, small-town holiday cheer turns to suspicion and the tension between Everly and the handsome Detective Grady Hays builds. Everly knows her sweet, elderly Aunt Fran couldn't have murdered anyone, but as she struggles to find the real
killer, it begins to seem like this may be the last happy holiday her family will ever have. Can she tie this Christmas mystery up in a bow before it’s too late? This next book in Bree Baker’s cozy mysteries will keep you guessing right up to the end!

I figured out the murderer right from the beginning of the book. Never mind. I loved the interplay between Everly and Grady and, if truth be told, that is why I read this series. It is fantastic and I actually re-read chapters just relishing the sparks. I do not read romances so this is as good as it gets for me. I love it.

Christmas time really isn’t the best time for a murder, but that’s what happens in Charm. When Everly’s Great Aunt Fran is found holding a concrete garden gnome by the dead body of the mayor, it seems like an open and shut case. After all, they were in a mayoral race together, and the mayor had just upstaged her at her planned announcement of running for the office. But really, no one can believe she did it, until more and more evidence surfaces. And even though Grady has warned Everly about leaving the investigation to him, she just can’t do that. And, of course, she puts herself right in the cross hairs of the killer. It’s a great mystery, but the characters and their interaction is what really makes the story so enjoyable. The aunts are adorable and a bit quirky. And there may be a hint of a romantic tug-of-war between Everly and her old boyfriend, who is living in Charm at the moment, and the new almost boyfriend, the detective who keeps saving her life. Can’t wait to see what the future holds for all of them!

Everly Swan owns Sun, Sand, and Tea Cafe in Charm, North Carolina. When Aunt Fran discovers the mayor's corpse with one of her sister's garden gnome as the obvious weapon and picks it up, she becomes the chief suspect, particularly since she planned to seek his office and had arguments with him. Everly appears to have some sort of relationship with the investigator, but having not read earlier installments, I never quite figured that out. The setting is near Christmas, but there is not much of a Christmas feel to it. Everly puts her nose in places she should leave to official investigators, but they don't seem all that bothered by her efforts at amateur sleuthing in spite of a couple half-hearted warnings. I suspect my main problems with the book stem from not reading earlier installments. I found the book easy to put down. I received an advance review copy through NetGalley with the expectation of an honest review.
