About this audiobook

What happens when a boxer finds chemistry with a geek?

Parker Brown can't believe she needs to hire a fake boyfriend. But the head boss prefers to promote employees who are "settled." Thankfully, she's found the perfect candidate, a fellow intellectual looking for some quick cash. What Parker gets is his protective big brother-Rhys Morgan. The tall, muscled ex-boxer with a foul mouth shows up just as her boss does, and now she's stuck with the manipulative jerk.

Responsibility weighs heavily on Rhys. Now permanently out of the ring, he's trying to hold together his late father's gym and keep his younger brother, Dean, on the straight and narrow. To save Dean from himself, Rhys takes his place, ready to give this society girl a piece of his mind. Instead, he finds an opportunity. Even though they can hardly stand each other, posing as Parker's boyfriend is a win-win deal. She gets to keep her job, and he'll charm her star-struck boss into sponsoring his gym.

Problem is, they can barely keep their hands off each other. And what started as an easy deal isn't so easy anymore.

The juxtaposition of the two characters types. However, the narrator’s BOSTON accent was terrible and very distracting

I expect the book is great. I plan on READING IT, as soon as I leave this review, but the narration on this audiobook is absolutely intolerable. I forced myself to listen to the worst fake Boston accent I have ever heard, which would have been bad enough. But the guy’s flat delivery on top of it was painful. I thought maybe I could adjust. But then the female narrator started, and I just can not continue. This woman sounds as though she either has a retainer or a large tongue piercing that she refused to take out to record. It’s the most unprofessional narration I have ever heard, and I listen to audiobooks every week. You can literally HEAR HER SALIVA as she talks around it.

What a travesty for a Kristen Callihan book that deserves so much better.

Loved the story but have to agree Alex Kydd's Boston accent was pretty bad and just felt off. Other than that both narrators were great with their tone of voice and representing the characters. This is a sweet enemies to lovers romance.

I really liked this story, the two leads were pretty strong characters & both likeable. Good secondary characters too, not throwaways but real developed personalities. I had no problem with the Boston accent - it did seem a bit heavy at first but then I got used to it & didn't really notice. I think it helped cement his blue collar character & made him unique. The female narrator was also very good. I've read a bunch of Kristen Callihan's books, so I was expecting a good story & wasn't disappointed. I haven't heard of the coauthor before but I might look her up.

Story was good. The male Narrator was horrible. I wanted to skip the book because of the narrator.

Couldn't even get through chapter 1, the male narration is atrocious, imagine Forrest Gump trying out a bad Boston accent, moves this book from romance straight to horror. Seriously fire the person that approved this idiot and make them listen to this garbage narration on repeat.

Enemies-to-lovers rom com. I liked the h and H right away. The romance scenes were less than steamy. A sweet story but one i will quickly forget

The female protagonist is unlikable, woke, and preachy. Not much to say about the male lead since he's not a fully developed character.

The voice actors are both good, but making the male narrator fake a New York accent is unpleasant and unnecessary.

    I don't think I'll finish it.

Story had all the feels, it felt really mature, no unnecessary or forced twists in the story, but you could really feel the development of the characters.
I get we why people don't like the male narrator, but tbh, I know Kristin Callihan and I know she writes great stories, this time with other author too, and truly, after maybe like 5 chapters I completely stopped paying attention to the accent and was completely focusing on the story and it sure delivered. But I am giving the story 4.5 because of that cause I can imagine if I were from the Boston area, or otherwise familiar with the accent, I probably wouldn't be able to get past that. Hence 4.5. otherwise, amazing, really.

Renewable energy savant and rich girl Parker is working for an employer who will only promote people who are married or in serious relationships so she hires Rhys (really his brother but whatever) to be her fake bae. I think we can all agree the setup is beyond preposterous. There is no reason Parker would not have quit the job she is so anxious to keep despite a ridiculous insane investor. She graduated from MIT, she is not unemployable. The employer in question is a comic book villain, a rich man with investments in many things (that is made clear) but he takes an interest in the romantic commitments of an entry level energy consultant. Right.Parker seems sweet and smart and sexually adept - she is a perfectly acceptable love interest.Rhys is hot and all, but there are things a Southie fighter is never going to say even if he is in love. Not just the lovey stuff but things like saying Parker's gaze was "alight with mischief." There is a lot of that. No. I love love as much as the next person and miss the dewy eyed stupid love I am now too dinged up to allow myself, but there are limits to what even dewy eyed lovers do and say that are dictated by prior experience and basic dignity. There are charming things about this book, its perfectly pleasant, but there are better crafted stories out there by the hundreds.

This book was really cute; equal parts fluff and angst and I love the friction that comes with a classic opposites attract book; especially when done well and its more like opposite in some ways but our souls speak to each other! Wittily written, good side characters and plot outside of the romance (as kristen callihan does), all in all a solidly good book!

I'm used to cackling chemistry and a few chuckles from KC, but this was a bit forced and tepid. I was also annoyed by repetitive writing-i swear these characters had so much snapping and cracking in their chests they probably need to see about their ribs or something.

So basically, it was fine. I kinda kept forgetting what I read so take that for what it's worth.
