About this audiobook

A private server. A digital playground. An alliance of the world's most sadistic, most depraved minds. A place to bring their prey, to hone their skills.

Kaiju: Battlefield Surgeon. Survival horror. One of the most brutal, most terrifying full-immersion games ever made. A place where fantasy characters such as elves and dwarves clash with technology, where giant monsters roam the hills, entrusted with protecting the gates of heaven from the demons who would tear it all down.

A game where one plays the last of the battlefield surgeons: a healer tasked with keeping the behemoths alive at all costs.

But on this server, they don't care about the game. That's not why they're here. They've come because of the game's most unique feature: Full pain. Realistic anatomy. The ability to bring their victims well beyond the body's normal breaking point. And most importantly, the ability to bring them back and do it all over again.

Trapped in a bloody, merciless nightmare, Duke only has one goal. To survive. And in order to survive, he must play the game. He must win the game. And to do that, he must become the most cruel, most ruthless monster of them all.

This book is a hell of a ride. Normally, I avoid the "stuck in the game" trope, but the world building was so interesting I had to keep going. The picture the narrative paints of the blurred lines between virtual and real are so interesting it makes you question it yourself. The virtual world also has a lot work put into it, it isn't just a back drop for the characters. It's not a perfect novel, no book ever will be, but it is weird and unique. A little too gorey and salacious at some points, but it gets there. Highly recommend.

This is a story of very high highs and very low lows. The writing and description was excellent and the world build for the game was awesome. Issue is, it's not very consistent. When the end rolled around I had seen the twist ahead of time but still kinda was... Let down? The story has a lot of torture porn and then it ends in a very fatalistic almost nihilistic way that completely fits the story but doesnt feel great to read.

I originally rated this lower but then I really thought about it. Despite my gripes, there is nothing else like this book. Especially not on this app.

Destined to Screw you up inside, but well worth it in the end.
