About this audiobook

National Bestseller

Olivia Dade bursts onto the scene in this delightfully fun romantic comedy set in the world of fanfiction, in which a devoted fan goes on an unexpected date with her celebrity crush, who’s secretly posting fanfiction of his own.

Marcus Caster-Rupp has a secret. The world may know him as Aeneas, star of the biggest show on television, but fanfiction readers call him something else: Book!AeneasWouldNever. Marcus gets out his frustrations with the show through anonymous stories about the internet’s favorite couple, Aeneas and Lavinia. But if anyone discovered his online persona, he’d be finished in Hollywood.

April Whittier has secrets of her own. A hardcore Lavinia fan, she’s long hidden her fanfic and cosplay hobbies from her “real life”—but not anymore. When she dares to post her latest costume creation on Twitter, her plus-size take goes viral. And when Marcus asks her out to spite her internet critics, truth officially becomes stranger than fanfiction.

On their date, Marcus quickly realizes he wants more from April than a one-time publicity stunt. But when he discovers she’s Unapologetic Lavinia Stan, his closest fandom friend, he has one more huge secret to keep from her.

With love and Marcus’s career on the line, can the two of them stop hiding once and for all, or will a match made in fandom end up prematurely cancelled?

Author

Olivia Dade

Olivia Dade grew up an undeniable nerd, prone to ignoring the world around her as she read any book she could find. Her favorites, though, were always, always romances. As an adult, she earned an M.A. in American history and worked in a variety of jobs that required the donning of actual pants: Colonial Williamsburg interpreter, high school teacher, academic tutor, and (of course) librarian. Now, however, she has finally achieved her lifelong goal of wearing pajamas all day as a hermit-like writer and enthusiastic hag. She currently lives outside Stockholm with her delightful family and their ever-burgeoning collection of books.

Painfully cheesy, everyone in a fandoms dream come true. But can’t root for them as it is so unrealistic.

Marcus Caster-Rupp is an actor in a Game of Thrones type fantasy show called Gods of the Gates. He is known as gorgeous and portrays himself as dim and shallow. However he is actually intelligent and struggles with dyslexia. What he really enjoys doing in secret is writing Gods of the Gate fanfiction and being a beta-reader for April.

April Whittier is a geologist and huge fan of Gods of the Gates. She is plus sized, into cosplay and fanfiction, and loves herself. This is something I really appreciate in this book. It pushes that plus size women can find love and have happy endings.

Both Marcus and April deal with family issues and image issues, and Marcus is really a good, sweet man. There was a misunderstanding in the beginning but it was quickly dealt with and I definitely appreciated that. That being said as the book went on I personally found April’s reactions to be a bit tiresome and in some cases felt she overreacted.Towards the end of the book we see a bit of her backstory and I feel like if we had known that sooner her reactions would have made more sense.

I loved that this story took place between fanfiction writers. This is a cool concept and in between chapters there are some fanfiction excerpts that are short and fun to read. I think their relationship works because even though it might seem fast paced they have really known each other for 2 years prior as each other's beta readers. It’s just that one of them doesn’t know the identity of the other.

Overall this was an interesting story and unique in some aspects. I loved that it celebrated body positivity and courage. If you are into fanfiction and celebrity crushes and just the fandom life in general you will like this book.

DNF at 60%. These “adults” act like children. The relationship was barely built up and they were already basically living together.

Great sex/chemistry between MCs, and a fun premise! This has more depth than the average bodice ripper and dealt with serious issues, but I felt like it balanced the steamy stuff with the real world stuff well. A fun read, excited to read more of her books!

I first tried reading it as an ebook, but gave up. I'm now trying it as an audio book and I'm finalky done. The plot is so hard to get excited about, and the main relationship almost seems toxic.

The fmc's thought process makes it really hard to take her seriously as an adult, and she is unreasonably hard on a man who obviously has at least as much issues as she does. I also don't really like the focus on her weight, as it seems to me she's unjustified in her touchyness about it. The several big excuses for why the fmc is fighting with the mmc just seems so immature and silly.

The chapters end with "fanfic" or comments about them, which I don't think adds anything to the book at all. It was almost a fun feature the first few chapters, but it quickly got annoying and I now skip all the endings of the chapters just to get through the book.

I loved the couple April and Marcus, they gave me hope that character matters vs beauty. The love play, honest conversations and chemistry kept me hooked. Looking forward to the next book, don't Alex and Lauren deserve a story?

This book was passionately feminist, fat-positive, and a sweet and fun romance. Thank you for writing this book! Highly recommend for a fun romance.

My rating is mostly based on my own personal preferences.
I quite liked the characters and the premise sounded fun, which was why I picked up the book in the first place, despite it not being my genre.
I even enjoyed laughing at the deliberately cringe-worthy snippets of scripts or fan-fic at the end of each chapter. The author's inclusion of progressive topics were also quite refreshing to see.

With that said, though, I could only get through 20 chapters before I was bored out of my mind.
The central tension felt pretty weak and the story quickly fell into a fluff-smut-fluff pattern, which simply couldn't hold my interest. After the first sex-scene I ended up skipping through the rest - something that I usually never do, as I tend to enjoy them. But they were just too long and repetitive for my tastes.

The book should have been a lot shorter. The characters rants and go on and on tedious inner monologues. Finished it though. Hope the others in the series will be better.

It is rare for the very curvy women as the love interest, not a size 14 or size 16, Those size are where I began the slow death of my self worth. Low self-esteem as direr consequences, for you the person. This book is Funny and it's always nice to see the Fat Girl win.

Very predictable, a bit (much) shallow, a tad tired some ( due to the margin stories).
I liked the body image agenda.

Fan fic is not really my scene, but I gave it a good go. I made it to 70% but just couldn’t finish it because it seemed like half the plot was just erotic sex scenes. The storyline was so slow because every chapter was all about how turned on they were allll the time.

This book was bomb! So much better than I expected. it gave me all the feels, the development between the characters was very slow burn. There was drama and angst, but no alpha male BS and no pointless fights.

And the love scenes were super steamy?? All in all, a great read. I wish this was a series as I would love to read Alex's book next.

Way better than I expected. I appreciated the humor and banner between the couple. The story was well written and had surprising depth. It approached real issues in our culture as well. Plus there was a nice bit of spice ☺️

I love this book. As a person who has struggled with weight and dyslexia all my life to have a romance centered around two main characters who struggle with those issues is just so awesome. To see how Marcus was written to show his struggle growing up with dyslexia and how he felt shows a true portal what it is like growing up with dyslexia. Thank you Olivia Dade for writing this book. I can't wait to listen to more of your books and have a physical copy of this book.

THIS. BOOK. IS. SO. GOOD. The writing jumps off the page from the very first sentence. It's like you're right there, immersed in the scene with the characters. Like you're breathing right along with them, feeling everything they feel. Like you're not actually reading at all, just living the story.

Plus it's got the Cinderella aspect that makes it extra fun if you like that sort of thing. (I like that sort of thing.)

This is my first Olivia Dade book, but I will read everything she writes from now until forever.

Thank you, NetGalley, for the ARC I received.

I really enjoyed this book. I think if I were more a fan of fan fiction, I’d give it 5 stars, but it’s not really my thing. I loved reading a romance with a plus sized woman as the main protagonist. I don’t think I’ve ever read a book with a woman who looks like me as the lead. The characters are well developed, and it’s a sweet story.

This should've been stayed a fanfic, it was uncomfortable reading about Nicolai Coster-Waldau and others Game of Thrones actors and actressess, also modern AU was giving me second-hand emberassement. The author abused the word "round", when describing the heroine and her cosplay construction was glossed over (she was "doing something" offscreen). April's work was important, but only at the beginning of the book, then it felt by the wayside. All in all: A disappointment. .
