About this audiobook

Sinister sorcery. Gallows humor. A queer romance so glorious it could be right out of fae legend itself. Master of One is a fantasy unlike any other.

Rags the thief has never met a pocket he couldn’t pick, but when he’s captured by a sorcerer with world-ending plans, he realizes even he is in over his head. Forced to use his finely honed skills to nab pieces of an ancient fae relic, Rags is stunned to discover that those “relics” just happen to be people:

A distractingly handsome Fae prince,

A too-honorable Queensguard deserter,

A scrappy daughter of a disgraced noble family,

A deceptively sweet-natured prince,

A bona fide member of the Resistance,

And him. Rags.

They may all be captives in the sorcerer’s terrible scheme, but that won’t stop them from fighting back. And, sure, six unexpected allies against one wicked enemy doesn’t make for generous odds, but lucky for him, Rag’s not generous—he’s smart. And he has a plan that just might get them out of this alive.

With the heist and intrigue of Six of Crows and the dark fairy tale feel of The Cruel Prince, this young adult fantasy debut will have readers rooting for a pair of reluctant heroes as they take on a world-ending fae prophecy, a malicious royal plot, and, most dangerously of all, their feelings for each other.

Editor's Note

Action-packed queer fantasy…

“Master of One” is an action-packed queer YA fantasy for the ages. Rags is a thief, and when he finally gets caught, his punishment is to find a relic of the fae. Instead, he finds an actual fae, and of course, an adventure to save the world ensues. This book is both delightfully familiar and wholly rich in new world-building.

Jaida Jones

Jaida Jones and Danielle Bennett are married co-authors (without wanting to divorce yet) who live in a haunted Brooklyn brownstone with 8 cats, two parents, and one grandparent. Danielle spent her wild youth in the PNW, learning to climb trees in the local cemetery and reading through every family dinner, school day, and summer vacation. She knows how to ride a horse but not how to drive a car. Jaida is a native New Yorker who spends too much time on Instagram and is currently passionate about tattoos, animal rescue, and slow fashion. Their published work includes four novels from the Volstovic Cycle, in addition to their many twitter rants on intersectional feminism and the NYC subway system. Master of One is their young adult debut, and you can find them at jonesandbennett.com.

The story was great! I didn’t care for the narrator though, she was kind of monotone.

This was genuinely painful for me. Cool premise, it just did not work out at all.

Charming, gripping story somewhere between a Tamora Pierce novel and the Eragon series, but with a far greater range of representation in character personality, ability, gender identity, etc. Lovely for all ages.

I was super interested in this book when it came out, but then seen some reviews that left me second guessing how badly I wanted to read this, but it felt like it was finally time so here we are.

If you like books with little to no romance this one is for you. The most we get is like the last 2 chapter and it's just a kiss ?

The Fae in this are also seem different than you usually see in fantasy. Yeah they're still really really ridiculously good looking, and have a bad track record but they just feel different. I would have liked a more in-depth explanation to the Tattoos and their names because it seems like it could be an interesting concept.

We also get animals made out of fae silver.

Glass shoved into your heart so that wizards can control you.

A queen taking over a kingdom on the quest to find the Greatest weapon and our chosen six must find it or perish like the ones before them.

Did I mention sassy giant lizards? Although I imagined her as more of an kelpie. ??

It is a stand alone I believe and the ending is left VERY OPEN. Sooooooo maybe there will be another one maybe not, the book is definitely not finished in my opinion but I still enjoyed it.

And I could decide which book to use so here's both from fairyloot and bookish box

I love the two main characters so much! I wish the book would focus on those two more.
