About this audiobook

From the author of the “raw, ingenious, and utterly fearless” (Wendy Walker, USA TODAY bestselling author) Temper comes a dynamic psychological thriller about two women who give bad men exactly what they deserve—perfect for fans of Killing Eve and Chelsea Cain.

Scarlett Clark is an exceptional English professor. But she’s even better at getting away with murder.

Every year, Dr. Clark searches for the worst man at Gorman University—professor, student, or otherwise—and plots his well-deserved demise. Thanks to her meticulous planning, she’s avoided drawing attention to herself…but as she’s preparing for her biggest kill yet, the school starts probing into the growing body count on campus. Determined to keep her enemies close, Dr. Clark insinuates herself into the investigation and charms the woman in charge. Everything’s going according to her master plan…until she loses control with her latest victim, putting her secret life at risk of exposure.

Meanwhile, Gorman student Carly Schiller is just trying to survive her freshman year. Finally free of her emotionally abusive father, all Carly wants is to focus on her studies and fade into the background. Her new roommate has other ideas. Allison Hadley is cool and confident—everything Carly wishes she could be—and the two girls quickly form an intense friendship. So when Allison is sexually assaulted at a party, Carly becomes obsessed with making the attacker pay...and turning her fantasies about revenge into a reality.

“A gorgeously written ragestorm of a thriller” (Wendy Heard, author of The Kill Club), They Never Learn is a feminist serial killer story that you won’t be able to put down.

Like a female Dexter, Scarlett has a dark passenger and she’s got an agenda. Some twists, decent narration, and a satisfying ending. You root for her like you do for Dexter.

OMG, THIS BOOK IS ABSOLUTE PERFECTION IN EVERY WAY POSSIBLE! The ending was exactly what I wanted and the reveals were even better! Scarlett was a true hero to womankind! I also loved the addition of two narrators since the book is told in two perspectives!

It wasn’t brilliant literature, but it was entertaining. If you want to know what women are so angry about, read this book.

A powerful, sharp, fresh thriller with an awesome anti-heroine. A vengeance story and a middle finger to patriarchy and misogyny. This was fun!

Really good, a 4.5 star read for me. The dual POVs were well done and the twist was *chef’s kiss*. A serial killer FMC with a thirst for justice with a dark academia setting? Excellent ??

Audiobook. Well read, especially by the actor who portrayed Scarlett. The Carley reader was passable.
Some people didnt like the book because they disapproved of how nearly ALL the male characters were bad guys and unlikeable and deserved some kind of retribution. I didn't mind that, especially as we are viewing the world through the lens of Scarlett and Carly, the man murderers. What I didn't like was that ALL the characters, especially our female leads, were unlikeable. Except the gay couple, which is an annoying trope. At least our author didnt kill all our gays, I guess. It was too long, too predictable, and, in the end, you don't want to root for our protagonists, and, honestly, the tropes and twists were well-worn roads telegraphed from a mile away. I wasn't expecting a masterpiece, but I wanted better than what I got. It felt juvenile and uneven and lacked fun. I generally like this kind of story and I don't think they are going tio be wildly original, but this was pretty bad. Might have been OK as a short story.

    SPOiLERS:
    SPOILERS:
The plot twist where you find out Scarlett and Carly are the same person was lazy, as was the handiness of Mina falling for Scarlett and finding the book Scarlett took from the murder at the perfect moment, and her assistant/boy toy's own dalliance being a timely excuse for his demise which absolved Scarlett of the murder of Kinnear. Even the scuffle erased Mina's whole web connecting Scarlett to the string of murders across the counrty! Why was Mina both the dumbest and the smartest person around? As for the Carly incarnation, she was jsut awful. She was abusive and stalky to her roommate and I felt genuinely bad for her. Evryone betrayed her, Carley most of all, who also took everyone away from her. She was insufferable and the architect of her own problems and Not Like Other Girls but also "secret hottie" was her entire personality, which is gross and lazy characterization. She's a brat and mean to everyone.
I want to think that the author wanted to show us that Scarlett/Carly was jsut as predatory and selfish as the men she "punished," but that never came through. We keep being shown Scarlett is, despite her murderous tendencies, caring, giving, protective. She's going to turn herself in so her gay buddy isn't blamed. She's only defending herself against Wes and her assistant is a danger to her and others, she really loves Mina. WE are supposed to root for her happy life in Jolly Olde where she can continue her good works. NO, w are supposed to like Scarlett or at least understand her, not condemn her. But she's never likeable nor unlikeable she's just... two one-dimensional characters stuck together.

This was a wonderful listen. The reader was great, the story flowed really well. I was truly invested until the end. I loved the main character so much! The only reason I rated it 4 stars instead of 5 was because it’s was an all or nothing men are bad, women are good vibe. In a sense it still worked this way but I felt it could have been a bit more unpredictable and twisty with a variety. Overall, an excellent book with excellent writing.

I will be thinking about this one for a long time to come. This had all the best parts of an amazing story: comedy, thrills, emotion, drama, mystery, infuriating characters & characters you cheer for (you decide which is which).
There are some SA triggers so be aware, otherwise, read on friends.

Love love love. The writing in this book is beautifully horrific. I love the two different perspectives. This is so clever and witty and bloody. I love when men have to actually pay the consequences for their actions. I highly recommend
