About this audiobook

"I never liked jazz music because jazz music doesn't resolve. I used to not like God because God didn't resolve. But that was before any of this happened." ?Donald Miller

In Donald Miller's early years, he was vaguely familiar with a distant God. But when he came to know Jesus Christ, he pursued the Christian life with great zeal. Within a few years he had a successful ministry that ultimately left him feeling empty, burned out, and, once again, far away from God. In this intimate, soul-searching account, Miller describes his remarkable journey back to a culturally relevant, infinitely loving God.

For anyone wondering if the Christian faith is still relevant in a postmodern culture.

For anyone thirsting for a genuine encounter with a God who is real.

For anyone yearning for a renewed sense of passion in  life.

Blue Like Jazz is a fresh and original perspective on life, love, and redemption.

This is such a brilliant book, I put it to the side for the last 5 years but it's genuinely something I needed to hear.

If you don't know whether you should read it I'll say three things:

    1. The author presents himself as a very flawed human, almost embarrassingly so but in seeing him you see just how messed up we all are.

    2. The book will touch on so many different aspects of our faith and how he processed and grew through them, it's unlikely that you won't be deeply moved or helped.

    3. Penguin Sex.

It's an inside joke for anyone who has read the book, so pick it up be blessed and you'll get it.

I liked listening to this book. I found it interesting, relatable and funny. I liked how it's honest and fresh! At the same time, while loving the naiveté of the author, I wished he would be a bit more grounded in good theology. I can't say exactly at what point he's missing the mark of good theology, a lot of what he says is quite true, it just felt like if he had a bit more grounding he'd find a better anchor for his soul than the wishy washy nature of life experiences. A lot of life is like flying in a plane, you have to go by the SCIENCE of it and rely less on your feelings. I just found myself WISHING of him to go more on the facts of good theology and less on his personal life experience. I get that personal experience is super important, but it can only take us so far, at some point we should live by faith not by sight, live out of a sense of principle, even if that means dying to self. I thought this book is entertaining in any case!
