About this audiobook

Hate your job. Betray your country. Start all over.

Tasked with killing the Eastern spy known as Nadine, as well as risking his life to get information by traveling to a foreign country, Roman develops an exit strategy with a lot of working parts, some of which he has absolutely no control over.

Exploiting telepaths, tricking his companions, his government, and even his former teacher, Roman does everything within his power to bring his exit strategy to fruition.

But he's still being hunted by Margo, and once the Centralian Government learns of what he's been up to, Roman's enemies grow exponentially.

It's going to take everything he has, from his creations to his unique power to animate inanimate objects, for Roman to survive. He will have to have to put his trust into Nadine, who may be his only hope when the final confrontation plays itself out.

Either way, it is going to be one hell of a ride, and that's before war breaks out on the Centralian border . . .

Contains mature themes.

I liked the series. The biggest weakness for me was that the OP skills the "exemplars" had, were used in such unimaginative ways. I would have preferred much weaker skills being used in clever ways. In each battle I kept envisioning how I would use the characters skills, and things would have played out much differently. Why would Roman or Margo ever appear in person when they could hide anywhere (just animate the ground and drop into a cave/tunnel) and/or project into literally anything? They both actually do this occasionally, so once they figured it out why not specialize in it? Also, it starts out that they can only animate "inanimate" objects (Roman can't animate a live rat, has to kill it first) - fine, a limit to the power. But then later that limit evaporates (it becomes his preferred kill move). Why not make "living tissue" off-limits and specialize in animating water, and use that to disable (spray their eyes/ears) or drown (have a water "snake" enter their mouth and nose) enemies. Limit the water's force so it can't be used to simply slice people up. Imagine Casper as a little water golem that can fly. Or Coma with many tentacles of water? Make the battles have some drama instead of this weird series of good guys dominate because bad guys use their powers just enough to lose.
On the other hand, I really liked the concept of the dolls as a part of Roman's personality. That makes the dynamics of their relationship very interesting and possibly realistic. Not sure if I can accept the human to human relationships, but having the dolls in there lends some plausibility and opens a broad landscape of areas to explore. Makes the series worth it for me!
