About this audiobook

Yoshiro escaped a career of crime with the mafia after they killed his family. For five years, he's dropped out of life. All he wants this Christmas is to be left alone. Then, Ebony and her kids accidentally crash onto his property during a snowstorm. For three years, they've been running from her husband-who's been more monster than man.

The storm picks up. They are forced to remain with Yoshiro until it dies down. And the threat of Ebony's monster remains, lurking within the shadows and threatening her safety. But Yoshiro knows all about death and blood. Her monster doesn't scare him. What has him terrified is that heartwarming feeling sparking between them. The more time Yoshiro spends with Ebony, the more she becomes a Christmas present that he's dying to open. Too bad, she's promised herself that she will never let another man in her or her children's life again.

Yet, sometimes the best Christmas presents come from a bullet. Every so often a good Christmas miracle is a cut-up body to end a nightmare. And even better, at just the right moment two lonely people can find light in their darkened souls and open their hearts to a new romance.

Good story with many surprises. This is one of the few books where the victims get satisfaction over their tormentors' death. My favorite part is also the most gruesome part but it's when the good guys control the suffering of the bad guy before his lights are out.

Ebony is on the run from her abusive husband with their 3 kids. After finding them he beats Ebony, puts his gun in her mouth and threatens to kill all of them. He beats the kids when they come to her defense. Swollen and bruised they barely escaped with their lives. She finally figures out how he always manages to find her and makes some changes to disappear. A wrong turn during a snowstorm changed all their lives when they stumble on the house of Yoshiro a retired assassin for the mob.

It doesn't take long for Yoshiro to figure out a murderous husband caused the cuts, bruises and swellings on their faces. Their terror was still palpable. The snowstorm and a stalled vehicle had them locked-in for a few days, so they had no choice but to trust Yoshiro. Yoshiro has his own story of the family he had, a wife and child. Seeing this family compelled him to protect and provide and he did it good.

This isn't a new story, and this story may have been told better in a different book, but I like the way Kenya tells Ebony and Yoshiro's story. I loved the kids too. They were actually part of the story and not in the background, which is what happens to children sometimes. This book was written years ago, but it would have been great for Kenya to give each of the 3 children their own story. After what they went through it would have been nice to see how they grew up and found their own love. I see the potential for a great writing in each of them.

Great book that I would reread.

Loved how this mom protected her children . The best part was when she took control of their lives.

A great love story! I love when the underdog wins! This story exemplifies how God’s plans make it seems that he has forgotten us; but actually he is working on our behalf all the time! We have to keep the faith and never give up!

I was so in love with this book. I love that it touches on so many different family dynamics and not to mention the difference between cultures. It made me smile because even the strangest of circumstances can bring you happiness and love

The subject matter is dark and the pace kinda slow but it was interesting enough to make me want to keep listening. After a certain "big event" in the story, the creepy factor went off the charts for me. I honestly hoped it was all part of a story - written by the female lead character to help her deal with the trauma of what happened to her. It was not. The way the two lead characters finally got together made my skin crawl, so much so I skipped it and continued to skip subsequent chapters. I can't believe all the characters were so nonchalant and mostly unaffected (especially the kids) by what happened. I don't ever want to read a story by this author again.
