About this audiobook

Help his friend go home.

Just because Gavin's goal is simple, doesn't mean it's easy!

His friend's home is Vushaar, the world's oldest monarchy and a land fractured by civil war. Slaver parties roam the countryside at will, claiming any they desire for their vile trade, and a great army lays siege to the capital.

Many question if Vushaar will survive, so what does that mean for Gavin and his friends?

Ties of friendship from two directions compel Gavin to enter this war-torn land, but will he succeed in returning his friend home safe and sound?

Robert M. Kerns

Robert M. Kerns (or Rob if you ever meet him in person) is a geek, and he claims that label proudly. Most of his geekiness revolves around Information Technology (IT), having over fifteen years in the industry; within IT, he especially prefers Servers and Networks, and he often makes the claim that his residence has a better data infrastructure than some businesses.Beyond IT, Rob enjoys Science Fiction and Fantasy of (almost) all stripes. He is a voracious reader, with his favorite books too numerous to list.Rob has been writing for over 20 years, and "Awakening" is his debut novel.

This series is entertaining and easy to read. The protaganists never face challenges that last more than a page or two and they always have the upperhand. There is also the frequent eyeroll at yet another person "going pale" at the sight of Gavin's medallion.
Perhaps the frustrating thing is that the main character acts like a dimwitted brute and bully in most situations with zero concept of politcs and diplomacy, however everyone treats him as a character of high ethics and wisdom. His murderous and impulsive responses to every situation is presented as brave and bold, and eventhough he constantly undermines the authority and standing of his allies, this is never mentioned and they all seem to go along due to fear rather than any real respect. All of this would have been totally fine if these were presented as a character's flaws, however the most frustrating aspect is that it seems like the author is also as unaware of the childishness and brutishness of the main character's decisions.
With all this said and despite all my complaints, the books are easy low-stress reading fare and I expect I will continue reading them...
