About this audiobook
From bestselling and eight-time Christy Award–winning author Lynn Austin comes a remarkable novel of sisterhood and self-discovery set against the backdrop of WWII.
1950. In the wake of the war, Audrey Clarkson leaves her manor house in England for a fresh start in America with her young son. As a widowed war bride, Audrey needs the support of her American in-laws, whom she has never met. But she arrives to find that her longtime friend Eve Dawson has been impersonating her for the past four years. Unraveling this deception will force Audrey and Eve’s secrets―and the complicated history of their friendship―to the surface.
1940. Eve and Audrey have been as different as two friends can be since the day they met at Wellingford Hall, where Eve’s mother served as a lady’s maid for Audrey’s mother. As young women, those differences become a polarizing force . . . until a greater threat―Nazi invasion―reunites them. With London facing relentless bombardment, Audrey and Eve join the fight as ambulance drivers, battling constant danger together. An American stationed in England brings dreams of a brighter future for Audrey, and the collapse of the class system gives Eve hope for a future with Audrey’s brother. But in the wake of devastating loss, both women must make life-altering decisions that will set in motion a web of lies and push them both to the breaking point long after the last bomb has fallen.
This sweeping story transports readers to one of the most challenging eras of history to explore the deep, abiding power of faith and friendship to overcome more than we ever thought possible.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I absolutely loved this novel. This is my second novel by this author and she did not disappoint. The narration was excellent and very easy to follow as it weaves back and forth through time for both Eve and Audrey. It’s a story about sadness, love, hope, friendship and most importantly forgiveness. I often found myself mesmerized at the way the narrator drew me into the story. Sometimes, I felt like I was there experiencing the ups and downs of their friendship, and through various events surrounding WWII. Excellent performance by Sarah Zimmerman!!

The narrator did a great job.
I bought the second book without knowing it was a series so I borrowed this audiobook to listen to it first.
I really enjoyed this story. It isn’t easy to listen to how terribly difficult it was for those in-and affected by-the war. However, it is needed. The atrocities are beyond measure. We must never forget, erase, or edit that.
I did find that the book went on a little longer than I felt was needed for the story. Audrey and Eve are quite different but they balanced each other and learned from one another. I admittedly wanted to smack Eve a few times and I rolled my eyes at Audrey but it’s a reflection of how we all have faults and quirks. Sometimes pain and desperation causes foolish and/or painful decisions. It’s hard to imagine someone stealing a friend’s identity. The mercy and grace of God was evident in this story. I will definitely be reading the second book. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5One of the best pieces of fiction I’ve ever read. I learned so much about history, and was very entertaining and spiritually enlightening at the same time.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is one of the best books I have read in sometime. Very well done. I will be reading more of your books. You have the Christian life wrapped into the story line very very good. The person reading the story did a excellent job too. Thank you for making mt workday so enjoyable.
