About this audiobook

From #1 New York Times bestselling author and Edgar Award winner Alex Berenson comes a supercharged thriller about marriage and the dangerous secrets spouses keep.

Rebecca and Brian Unsworth appear to have it all. A nice house in the suburbs of Washington, DC. Two well-behaved, healthy teenage children. Important government jobs—Rebecca working in counterterrorism for the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Brian serving as a coder for the National Security Agency. Their lives stand to improve even more as Brian, in his off-hours, has just developed and sold a highly profitable app.

However, the Unsworths’ marriage isn’t as perfect as it seems. After two decades together, they’ve drifted apart, talking little and having sex even less. Seeking to revive their strained relationship, they decide for their twentieth wedding anniversary to take their two kids, Kira and Tony, on a European getaway.

They have a blast…until one night in Barcelona when Kira doesn’t come home from a dance club. She’s gone. Abducted. Over the course of a single weekend, the Unsworths will do everything possible to find her—as Kira herself discovers just how far she’ll go to break free of the trap that’s been set for her. And even as Rebecca and Brian come together for Kira, they realize their marriage is more tenuous than they realized.

The Power Couple is both a fast-paced, globe-trotting espionage novel full of surprising twists and a nuanced look at modern marriage—the challenges of balancing career, parenthood, sex, and love.

This was a great book. I listen to a lot of books and find myself drifting in the middle. This one actually kept my interest the entire time.

Alex has matured into a masterful author. He blends character, plot, pacing perfectly. I have read all of his previous novels. Unlike so many “New York Times bestselling authors” with rave blurbs by other “New York Times bestselling authors” who write sequels that are slipshod and formulaic, Berensen respects and challenges his audience. BRAVO!

Great author but not a great book. Seems that he wanted to try his hand in the hot “psychological thriller” genre. Judged in that context it is just average. Overlong, mushy characters and predictable plot. It really is pretty obvious about a third into the book. The rest is filler events as we wait for the conclusion. Again, this is not a bad book, just disappointing from this author.

Was absolute loving the whole thing…Steven Weber as a narrator is SO good with 4+ accents and easily transitioning between genders without being awkward.
I was disappointed by the ending…while the entirety of the book is not particularly based in reality, I was left rolling my eyes as it ended.
Despite that, I would still recommend it as it was an exciting and well written ride.

There were moments when they went back in the past that felt long and drawn out, and I wondered how they were relevant. It all came together in the end and the ending was good. Not an amazing novel but one that holds your interest.

Audiobook version. Steven Weber is one of the best audiobook actors out there, which is what drew me to this work. I enjoyed the character development of the main couple, especially through extended backstories , which I thought were the most engaging parts of the book. I'm afraid the ending amused me more than anything else, but a good read all around.
