About this audiobook

The Hale family is obsessed with status, power, and control. No problem is too big their money can’t solve.

Royce Hale manipulated me into giving him everything. My virginity. My hand in marriage. My heart.

And as soon as he got what he wanted, he callously sold me off for a cool ten million.

In the boardroom and the twisted game his family plays, he says the only rule is to win at all costs.

Yesterday I learned a painful lesson not to trust the prince of Cape Hill. Today I’ll destroy his carefully laid plans and show him just how badly he’s already lost.

All the money in the world won’t be able to stop me.

The Obsession is the second book of the Filthy Rich Americans trilogy and should be listened to following The Initiation.

This is a dark taboo Greek tragedy feeling book. No warm happy feelings but drama and sexual tension all through out this exciting book. my heart went out to royce by the end despite not liking him at the beginning. Talk about is autho knows how to leave you guess how guessing it will all play out. I'm usually able to figure it out.

Ok, this series has everything you’d want from a schlocky 1980’s weekly drama: wealthy family members trying to fuck or poison one another in an endless circuit of making/losing millions while attending parties with specific dress codes (and before you ask: yes OF COURSE there will be a masquerade ball). I love this shit. I also love Greek mythology, so the classical references are a gilded bonus.

This fiction is so fictional it sparkles. If you can suspend disbelief and just don a Medusa mask while trying to outrun your father-in-law from ravishing you while you escape his homemade labyrinth, then you are going to have a GD good time.

OMG! I can’t think. I just finished book 2 “The Obsession” and I am frozen in my chair. Nikki Sloane is brilliant because the word Obsession describes the feeling of not only every character in this story but now also the reader’s! This story is indescribable and Savannah Peachwood acting out this story has me mesmerized. It has become an obsession to keep on listening nonstop to the end...and like any obsession, I must read book 3 in the series.

A train wreck I can’t stop listening to. It’s an easy and quick read. The constant reference to Greek mythology is just really overdone, forced and annoying. The cliffhanger is really the only reason I’m picking up the next book…. Also I really like the dad more than I do Royce so I’m interested to see where this goes.

The Obsession is a book that carries us through the journey of Royce and Maris and a third party that plays a role is Royce’s father: Macalister. Maris is out for her own vengeance when she realizes the true depths that Royce will go to in reaching his goals. Its not easy for Maris to see how he will cast her away for his future. Maris has just started to fall hard for Royce and now must deal with the hardness of his father Macalister. She has literally no freedom or much choice now that she was willing to do what needed to be done, especially with her family practically destitute thanks to their bad decisions and her sister being pregnant. She is split into two wanting to trust Royce but knowing he could easily stab her in the back again.I did find this installment to be my least favorite of the three books featuring Royce and Maris. We get Royce’s betrayal and its really hard to see that but Maris really shows courage in this installment and I admired what she does to stand up to his father even when its not easy. I wasn’t really for this cat and mouse game that she and Macalister play with each other. And all three individuals have ISSUES LOL And there is plenty of intrigue because of all the secrets that are kept from each other. You understand fully why especially Royce keeps Maris in the dark because of his plans to take over the company because of how dangerous his father is becoming. But despite the issues, the writing is so addicting and I honestly couldn’t get enough of seeing where this author was taking us. But there are scenes of almost “cheating” its complicated of course, so if you have read the book you probably understand it more because there is plenty of manipulation especially from Macalister. And while this isn’t my favorite book in the series, it has growth and mystery and plenty of hot sensual scenes that will keep you up late reading because you won’t be able to get enough of it.

I enjoyed this one! I think I liked it more than book one even. This has the same super fast pace and it's easy to read. I flew through this in just two sittings. There's not as much outside plot in this one but I found that I didn't mind that.

I still enjoyed Marist's character but Royce wasn't in this one as much and frankly, I'm just not very interested in his character or him as a love interest. It's hard to say if that's just because he wasn't in this book as much or because I just don't like him. I don't hate him, I don't mind him as a love interest, and I don't mind reading about him, he just doesn't grip me. Mcalister on the other hand definitely did interest me. He's definitely the "bad guy" I guess, but he was just so much more interesting to me compared to Royce and because he was more interesting, I almost wanted for him to take over as the main love interest. He definitely does some bad stuff but his parts were the most interesting parts of this book to me.

There is still some business stuff happening, but the plot is a lot more interpersonal. Sometimes, that really bores me but here it really worked. I think it's probably because this family is just filled to the gills with drama that it didn't feel boring to me. There are definitely some slower parts to this and I would have liked to see Marist interact with her family more. It feels like that plot line got dropped a bit and only brought up when necessary as a threat but maybe will get more in book three. The ending is definitely intriguing so reading book three is definitely high on my list.
