About this audiobook

I’ve been through hell to get to this place. To wear the perfect white dress and stand beside Royce Hale, the liar I tried desperately not to fall in love with and failed.

Or maybe I’m still trapped in hell because the devil is here too. He lurks at my side, plotting terrible ways to make me his.

It’s win at all costs in this family, and I know now just how far the Hales will go to get what they want.

But you can’t survive in a house full of lies without learning the art of deception, and once I become a Hale, I’ll show them exactly what I’ve mastered.

THE DECEPTION is the third and final book in the twisted Filthy Rich Americans trilogy. It should be read after THE INITIATION and THE OBSESSION.

Well what can I say other than WOW! It was dark, twisted, taboo, thrilling, and full of mystery and plot twists. Just when you think it's getting to a solid part where you might see a bit of peace in her life something happens to throw it off balance. The author did a great job making a villain you love to hate. Looking forward to reading his story in Redemption.

This is a review for the first 3 books in this series. A Solid 4 and 1/2 Stars. The book was a page turner and kept me engaged even though there were aspects of the story in which I had to suspend disbelief, I could roll with it. I loved the main female character's relationship and interactions with the male lead, Royce. I appreciated how Royce was a sweetheart in private and seemed to pretty much always be upfront and honest with her. In real life, he most likely would have had more psych issues and been more scarred from having a father like McAlister.

What I did not dig was that the author painted Royce's father, McAlister as a rapey, twisted, and sick individual who forces himself on the female main character, his soon to be daughter-in-law in more ways than 1 repeatedly and is emotionally, mentally and sexually abusive to her and his own wife, but she is sickly attracted to that at times? The author seemed to go back and forth between giving reason for the FMC to be traumatized by McAlister and then turned on by him even if she "didn't want to be". I could have done without that aspect for sure. It made me lose some respect for the FMC and the author. It also made the female main character seem a little unfaithful when she should have been deeply negatively effected by McAlister's behavior and purely repulsed (the way you are with any molester). The author gives a lot of mixed opposite reactions to the abuse and inappropriateness on the part of the FMC that don't make sense and happen concurrently. In real life it would most often play out only one way or another but not a mix of repulsion and being turned on at the same time, unless you're super messed up.

Since I read the first 3 books within a span of a few days they all blur together for me so I apologize as this is kind of a review of the entire series (minus the last book which really has nothing to do with Royce and M's love story, but is rather strangely about the rapey father-in-law pursuing a 20 something year old who wasn't part of any prior book). I asked myself throughout reading this series if it was good enough to read again, but I'm not sure if I would want to reread with the twisted feelings the FMC has for McAlister as he abuses her and his wife.

Triggers involving forced sexual contact, blackmail for sexual favors (some involving humiliation), and sexual exploitation.

The FMC was more loyal in this 3rd book which I appreciated more than the prior 2 books.

I don't know how I read this thing! 90% of the time I was sick and nauseous. The apotheotic ending made me wonder again why I submit my self to this torture...

For the final third installment in the romance between Royce and Maris, we get the wedding and seeing their first year together. I have to say this book was epically beautiful and we see these characters really come together here. I really admired seeing the depths that this author goes to with this pairing. It starts out intense though because you have NO idea what it means and I did cheat and read the last chapter because I just had to know how it ended because its one of those beginnings that is set in the future and then takes you back to the present and yeah the suspense of it all is pretty thrilling at times. The level of intrigue that is played out in this book is phenomenal though and what I enjoyed the most was seeing Royce and Maris really come together here. I wanted so much for them to get their HEA and to find closure and peace. We definitely see all the ups and down and I will admit Maris is a heroine I struggled with off and on throughout this series. I really didn’t care for the secrets that she keeps from Royce and not always being honest about the interactions she has with his father. And the ENDING of this book was CRAZY sauce, because we have a villain you don’t see coming. Definitely turned this reader out for a loop. But I had a blast in seeing how these two reach their ending and the teaser that we have for book four which is Macalister’s book and yes what a anti hero that becomes redeemed.

A decent “happy ending” for this uncannily erotic melodrama, but not as steamy or interesting as the first two. Because of the cliffhangers, you WILL feel obliged to read it, however.

3.5 stars, definitely not a bad conclusion to this part of the series. I enjoyed it but it's very similar to the last two books and at this point, I think it felt a bit dull.

Even thought a lot of the the high drama stuff continues into this book, I just found it a bit more boring. There is a lot more negotiation that I didn't find very interesting. There were more sex scenes and they were find but they all started reading as kind of the same. The stuff that I think was supposed to be really shocking I didn't find that shocking because there wasn't much escalation from other books. BUT THEN, the ending was filled with drama and action that just felt completely ridiculous to me. So much came out of nowhere or wasn't set up well in my mind. I also thought it was unfortunate that Alice tries to kill Marist and Royce again at the end because I think Marist's sympathy and empathy towards other people to be an important part of her character and by making Alice an actual bad person after Marist has given her sympathy, it kind of is saying that having empathy for people is bad actually!

The relationship was fine but I still found Royce to be really boring. It was hard for me to get invested in their relationship when I found one half of the relationship to be incredibly dull. He is just a lot more boring that Macalister and even though I didn't really want Marist to end up with Macalister, he was the more interesting character and it made the actual relationship harder to get into.

I know there is another book in this series technically that is about Macalister and Sophia Alby, who is a bit player in these books. I want to read more about Macalister, but I don't care at all about Sophia and I'm not sure I'm interested in any relationship between them when the only set up is that Sophia called him hot a couple of times. I'll probably read it because I like this author's writing but I doubt I'll get to it right away.

    4.5??? maybe??

i’m sad marist and macalister didn’t do anything, even though it was always clear she would never end up with him. their chemistry was so interesting and different that the passion her and royce had; i desperately wanted it to go further than it did.
i’m SHOCKED that alice was killed in the way she was, and that macalister went to jail for it. i’m not sold on reading the next couple of books simply bc i know they’ll be about that gossipy girl (a-something?) but i’ll give it a go just to see if macalister changes at all.
