About this audiobook
Spirited, iron-willed Rhonwyn is the bastard child of the Prince of Wales, raised more boy than girl, able to ride and fight with the best. Against her wishes, she is married off to an English lord, Edward de Beaumont, who is stunned to discover that his lovely gilt-haired bride is a fiery wildcat with a mind of her own. Slowly, he wins her trust and her heart, and she accompanies him on the Crusades to North Africa. But when Edward falls ill, Rhonwyn boldly leads his troops, only to become a captive of the sensual Emir of Cinnebar, a man who will teach her the ways of erotic love-passions that will be put to the test when she returns to England to battle once more . . . this time for the man who rules her heart.

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I have a few of Bertrice Small’s books under my belt and at this stage I can honestly say that overall, her story’s are just not compatible with what I want to get out of a historical romance (exception, Love Remember Me and A Dangerous Love; Sky O’Malley and Lara are borderline, with the books that immediately follow them not my taste).
Small is beautifully descriptive, and a wonderful storyteller. It’s these strengths that have reeled me back in after books that have left me with some distaste. I have found many of her books, this one included, so overwrought with angst, random plot twists, orgies, harems??, grittiness, and a fragmented love story that I am officially tapping out. My reading time is preciously allocated, and with Small I don’t have the confidence I’m going to get what I want from one of her stories.
