What is pain?
If you review all the definitions of pain of which there are many. Of these most hold a similar view; Churchill Livingstone Medical Dictionary answers it as "unpleasant sensation experienced when nociceptors (pain receptors to you and me) are stimulated. It is individual and subjective with a physiological and emotional component.
I have found through my own personal experience and that of a nurse for over 25 years. Through caring for individuals in my professional role people suffer different types of pain. What I have found and which I hope to share with you, is that pain is very personal.
Pain, as we feel it, can affect any individual, it is not subject to your race, your wealth, your social demographic; it is universal but what you feel is the most individual.
I am hoping you can relate to that; everyone’s experience of pain is unique. Just as you are unique so in turn is your sensation of pain.
