Foreword
Welcome to a great way to know and play your guitar! After a lot of researching, practicing, and discovering during the last several years, it dawned on me that the guitar doesn't need to be as perplexing as I thought it was. For most of my guitar playing history, I knew how to make the standard open and barre chords and learned the techniques to play rock guitar. But that was mostly acquired by physical repetition and a desire to play fun and impressive parts on the guitar, with only a little effort applied to learning how those parts fit into the songs. More recently, I found that by understanding a few musical principles, and by memorizing several Fingering Patterns to apply those principles on the guitar fretboard, it's possible to play guitar with a lot more confidence and satisfaction. While I am very grateful for the amount of guitar information that's now available in books and the internet, there are so many charts, diagrams, methods, theory explanations, etc out there, that it's mind-boggling.
