Foreword
In business and in life, taking the time to make those around us feel valued can make all the difference. Unfortunately, too often in the workplace, managers neglect the importance of recognizing their employees for their efforts. Maybe they feel they are too busy; maybe they don’t feel comfortable giving recognition; maybe they even feel a paycheck is enough.
Changing the culture of an organization is never an easy task. When we set our sights on building a culture of employee recognition, it is not an overnight process but a journey. The good news is that any individual in any business can positively impact the people they work with...simply by acknowledging their contributions.
In Reasons 2 Reward, McKeogh and O’Neill paint an inspiring picture of how that culture change can transform a business and its people. Wally World could be any type of business located almost anywhere on earth. You’ll meet characters who will remind you of individuals you know and have worked with (both good and bad). It’s a fast-paced tale that will give any business leader a new perspective on their own workplace and how to better engage their workforce. Because ultimately, the more you can make people feel valued for what they contribute, the more they will want to go even farther above and beyond.
Enjoy the story. You’ll be inspired to create a workplace where employees are wowed by recognition! And you’ll find the results are well worth the journey.

Introduction
So many workplaces just don’t get it! C.E.O.s, presidents, managers and supervisors spend so much time analyzing how to increase profits. They strive to maximize profits by squeezing as much as they can from their organizations, making sure the organization is performing to its maximum potential by reducing expenses and maximizing savings. This can cost the company dearly, as a cost-cutting mentality often has unfortunate ramifications, leading to poor morale, low employee productivity, and high employee turnover.
The solution is simple. Ask your frontline employees how to maximize employee performance and sustain it and the answer will be unanimous – SHOW US THAT YOU VALUE US! Employees often say that, as long as they receive fair pay, being valued is what motivates them to stay dedicated to an organization.
The following story is based on our philosophy of this simple winning formula…
Look after your employees + Look after your customers = Maximum profits
When employees are successfully engaged in their workplace and quality customer service is established, profits will increase.
Unfortunately, most of us don’t receive or give recognition or rewards for doing a great job. Over time, this leads to people becoming less interested and passionate about their work. In some cases they are totally disengaged in their work and the customers they deal with.
By focusing on what works and by acknowledging and celebrating success, employees can become far more productive, efficient and engaged in what they do.
It’s that simple! In fact, it’s so simple that most businesses pay no attention to it. They fail to develop business strategies to engage employees, yet focus their attention on so many other areas in attempts to increase profits.
