BUYING A CAR: ADVICE FROM THE INSIDERS

Is there anything more stressful than buying a car?

    The answer is yes.

You could be thrown to lions, wearing nothing but a towel!!

In fact, if you are not prepared, these two events are quite similar!

Picture this for a moment. There you are, unarmed and vulnerable in your towel, facing the well-equipped carnivores. Whether you’re male or female, young or old, you don’t have much chance against hungry lions full of teeth and claws and predatory instinct. This is how many people approach buying a vehicle.

But it doesn’t have to be this way.

You may have had an accident, your vehicle was stolen, or has broken down one time too many. For whatever reason, you’ve decided it’s time to get a new one - or new to you, anyway. It’s time to car shop. You’re feeling a little excited, but nervous, too. Those uneasy questions start surfacing again: Will I pay too much? What kind of car should I buy? How can I make sure I’m doing the right thing? How can I protect myself? What if I make a mistake?

Our mission is to provide you with the armor, the strategy, and the tools you need to be successful in the car sales process. We’re just the ones to do this, too, because we’re The Insiders! We have been working in the car sales industry for 30-some years. We are still working in the industry. We know all the tricks. And, we’re willing to tell all! If you follow our advice, you will be well educated as to what to do, when to do it, and most importantly, what to expect. You’ll be prepared.

Selling vehicles is our job, our means of providing for our families. We have as much to lose as you have to gain. We do have to make a living, after all. But, we feel it’s only fair to level the playing field. We will give you the step by step information you need to save hundreds to thousands of dollars the next time you buy a car.

This is it - the Full Monty - straight from The Insiders.

    Chapter One: Doing Your Homework

    Know the terminology!

If you have ever been in a place where they don’t speak your native language, you know how easy it is to get confused, even over the simplest things. In most occupations, there is a jargon that people who are not directly involved in the business may not understand. The auto sales industry is no different. We do speak a different language, and it can be confusing to the uninitiated.

The best way is to overcome this is to learn enough of the language to get around. Understand the basics. Know how to ask for what you want. Be able to listen to the language and understand important terms. Sometimes these terms are used because people think you don’t comprehend. (This can be educational and amusing.) In the car sales industry, knowing the basics can save you lots of money! Learn the terminology. Study the glossary at the end of the book!

    Gather your shield and weapons!

You’ve heard it said before, but it always bears repeating: KNOWLEDGE IS POWER! So before you do anything else, get smart. That’s your armor. Also, get a nice brightly colored folder with pockets and paper - the brighter the better! That’s your shield! When you eventually do go shopping, take this folder with you. Leave it on the seat when you get out of the car. Then reach back in for it. This will cause the sales staff to quake in their boots! They will all glance at one another, and stare at the folder. There will be a series of agitated murmurings and nudges. This is the mark of an organized shopper! A lookie-loo! (See the glossary) It’s the type of customer that strikes terror into the hearts of salespeople! Someone has done their homework! Oh, no! They have a folder!! It’s like garlic to a vampire.

Sometimes your salesperson will have been waiting for hours for a customer. If the customers don’t come in, the salesperson doesn’t make a living. If the customers come in, but they leave without
