    BUSH HAIKUS - Neil Glick

    Preface

    Dear Reader:

In this day and age of sound bytes, it seems all political arguments are less than 30 seconds. Our attention span and decision making is reduced to the time of a television commercial. But the issues at stake for our people, nation, and world, need longer to explain…or so I thought.

The Haiku is the Japanese tradition of simple, poignant poetry, using the 5-7-5 syllabic meter. After listening to 20 years of political rhetoric crafted by the likes of Lee Atwater and Karl Rove, I learned that important issues can be summed up in just three short lines. The simple so-called solutions to vast complex problems being proffered by President Bush, his Administration and the Republican Party do not deserve lengthy responses.

It seems that Americans do not have the time to digest the enormity of the problems that face our Nation.

Some of these haikus are funny; others serious. They would be humorous if George and Dick were not our barely-elected President and Vice President of the United States.

The Bush-Cheney team concentrated so much power into The White House that the United States entered a frightening period in its history.

Under that Administration, businesses had less regulation and the personal lives of the American people saw more and more regulation and less privacy. Personal rights, personal liberty, and privacy were all threatened by the Bush-Cheney team.
