About this ebook

In Medjugorje, Mother Mary has been appearing since June 24, 1981, to six Croatians. Through these six visionaries, Mother Mary has guided us on a path of spiritual conversion involving five steps: Pray from the heart and pray the Rosary daily; Attend the Lord's Supper and receive the Eucharist; Read and prayerfully meditate on Holy Scripture daily; Fast on Wednesdays and Fridays; Monthly confession.
Along with an in-depth look into these five steps, Mother gives some historical background into Medjugorje, gazes at signs and wonders, and discusses the unfolding of the Secrets of Medjugorje. Before ending with some final considerations, Mother Mary gives her final public message for the Church, and through the form of a letter, issues a personal plea to her children in the United States of America.
You may rest assured this loving last testament has been authored by one well attuned to our Mother's voice.

    Chapter One

    Welcome!

In Meðugorje and Bijakovići, growing villages on the mountainous plateaus of western Bosnia-Herzegovina, I have been appearing to six Croatians since June 24, 1981. They were children and young teenagers back then, beautiful young souls, who have grown through trials and tribulation into lovely, prayerful adults. I teach and guide them, sometimes console and at other times reprimand. I always love them, as God the Father loves, as the Christ loves, for I am in complete union with my Father, our Son and the Holy Spirit. We want these six Croatians in complete union with us, and we desire the same for you, the people of the United States of America.

Why am I singling out the United States for these words of mine? Because you are in desperate need of your Mother, your Father, our Son. You desperately need the gifts this Holy Family bestows on all who ask, and we eagerly await the bestowing! A large majority of Americans profess a belief in God, but too often your hurried, materialistic lifestyles infringe upon the time demands of prayer. The establishment and deepening of a personal relationship with God through prayer is the most important function of any human life. Your country has been blessed with so much, so much! From political freedoms to agricultural bounties, from raw materials to educational opportunities, from entrepreneurial spirits to humanitarian endeavors, the United States of America has so much to give the world, as it has shown countless times. But remember, the Kingdom of God is a spiritual Kingdom. It is of the Spirit! This spiritual Kingdom alone satisfies the human soul. No other gift will.

By singling out the United States, I will continue to spread my message for the world that I have been giving in Meðugorje for the past twenty-four years. I find it somewhat humorous as I am closing in on our silver anniversary in Meðugorje that my message from these stony Balkan hills is not reaching you in the numbers it should. You must have wax in your ears! If you are a Protestant with a wax problem, you think it’s a message only for the Roman Catholics. How wrong you are! A Muslim who hears my Meðugorje message and dismisses it as one meant only for Christians, tsk, tsk. There is only one God! If you are Roman Catholic and think you do enough for the Holy Family by satisfying your Sunday obligation, not only do we have a wax problem, you are spiritually blind. You must clean out your spiritual ears, reclaim your spiritual eyesight.

Oh, my children!, if you only knew how much I love you, you would weep with such joy the barrenness of past separations would wash from your souls to the sea. Catch just a glimpse of my love in action and your soul will sparkle! Fuel that sparkle with your every day problems, traumas, successes. Share the minutia, share your life with your Mother. I want to hear it all. Cry it out!, scream it out!, let’s laugh and whisper too. I am there for you in every possible situation you can imagine, and even those you cannot. If you haven’t figured it out by now, your Mother has some very strong connections in the Kingdom of God. I have a very influential Son and a doting Father who doubles as my Spouse. They have honored me, a mere mortal at one time, to be known forever as the Queen of Peace.

Peace, peace, peace and only peace! Peace must reign between man and God and between all people! These words I spoke to Marija, one of my chosen children, on Podbrdo overlooking the village of Bijakovici over twenty-four years ago. This is the core of my Meðugorje message and these are the same words I speak to America now. Peace, peace, peace and only peace! The only way this peace can be achieved is through the conversion of each individual. Accept God our Father into your life and daily deepen this sacred relationship. Follow the example of my most precious Son and pray, pray as if your life depended upon it because it does. Keep these divine relationships as the highest priority of your life and I promise you, the gifts of this Kingdom and of this Holy Family will be bestowed upon you. Then you may wonder why the vanities and distractions of this world had such a hold on you. At some point we will guide you into a deeper understanding of your sinful human nature while simultaneously deepening your understanding of the nature of God. Oh, the good- ness that will be yours! The riches! And I, your Mother, will be with you every step of the way as I was and am with my Son. Call on your Father and our Son. Call on me. In prayer know me as your Mother Mary and, come, join our Holy Family!

    Chapter Two

    A Little Background

Please do not be confused by the references to Bijakovići and Meðugorje in the preceding chapter. Bijakovići is a tiny village at the foot of Podbrdo, or Apparition Hill as many now call it. The small village of Meðugorje is only a kilometer away and hugs the foot of Križevac, or Cross Mountain. In 1933 villagers built a large, concrete cross at the top of this mountain to commemorate the 1900th anniversary of my Son’s crucifixion, and in doing so the Father was so pleased with this beautiful and difficult show of faith that their prayerful petitions were answered: no violent storms have damaged their crops since. Also, in this valley of bountiful vineyards and vegetable gardens sits St. James Church, guided by the Franciscans who are so dear to this area of the Balkans. There are also other villages and towns close by, but the parish is referred to as the Meðugorje parish, thus my Meðugorje message.

Allow me a minute to introduce my children, the lovely ones I have chosen as the main visionaries. They are Vicka Ivanković, Ivanka Ivanković, Mirjana Dragičević, Marija Pavlović, Ivan Dragičević, and Jakov Colo. These were their names in 1981. I’m happy to say they have all married since then and most have children. Sacramental marriage requires great discipline concerning the family’s prayer life, as the time demands of any marriage are strained especially when little ones are added to the mix. My children have been counseled concerning this matter, and for the most part respond well. They have chosen a difficult but fulfilling path to walk.

As you might imagine, these children have also endured many trials and persecutions responding to God’s call as crucial messengers and ambassadors of my apparitions. Within days of my first apparition, they were whisked away from Meðugorje to Mostar and interrogated by authorities of the Communist Party of Yugoslavia. All were found to be of sound psychological health. They also had to endure other Communist Party roundups and intimidations, all aimed at putting a stop to this nonsense about them seeing the Mother of God. I told the children not to fear, that I would be with them through all tribulations. Early on, even beloved parish priests, villagers and family members put the children through their own respective interrogations and investigations. Meanwhile, through word of mouth, within days tens of thousands of pilgrims were drawn to Podbrdo to express their love for my Holy Family and to ask for God’s help.

It was and is God’s will that the villagers of Meðugorje play an important role in the unfolding of our Meðugorje message. For this to happen, and for the guidance and protection of my chosen children, the Franciscans of St. James Church had to be on board. As pastor, Father Jozo Zovko was initially filled with disbelief concerning my apparitions. Even after being in prayerful communion with Jesus, at which time Jesus commanded him to protect the children, which Father Jozo did, finding the children and bringing them to the safety of an inner sanctum of the church while the police continued their search outside, he still did not want to believe the children. I did not have time to waste on his understandable stubbornness. Soon after, I appeared to Father Jozo and other parishioners during a prayer service inside St. James. Many family members of my chosen ones were also present during this appearance. And they believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe(Jn 20: 29 New Testament, NT, translated by James A. Kleist, S.J. and Joseph L. Lilly, C.M.)1, but blessed are any believers nonetheless.

All I asked them to do at that time was to pray the Rosary every day, and to pray it together. I have asked more of them since. We have given more in return.

At the dawn of August 17, 1981, hundreds of police officers and army personnel descended upon Meðugorje in police cars, buses, personnel carriers and helicopters. They closed off all access to, and exit from, Meðugorje. The people slowly filled the church square, for even entrance into the church was denied by the State. So the people stayed all day, praying the Rosary, using the Beaded Fist of our Father. Twelve hours later, the State allowed the people to enter the church. The showdown ended with the arrest and imprisonment of my son, Father Jozo. He was imprisoned for eighteen months, suffering much. Yet he never wavered in his support for my chosen children or my apparitions. During his imprisonment we grew so much closer, and his great witness by example and word influenced many Franciscans, other religious, villagers and pilgrims. He is a true son of our Holy Family. He never returned as pastor of St. James but is now rector of the Franciscan monastery at Široki Brijeg near Meðugorje.

After a while, the Communist Party retreated from their heavy military presence and intimidation tactics. They reasoned that the pilgrims silly prayers could do the State no harm. What a silly line of reasoning! The State looked at the economic benefits to be had by the constant massive flow of pilgrims to Meðugorje. This was why they relented. But the Father knew war was in the wind and I tried to prepare all through continued warnings in my messages. A majority of the different republics of Yugoslavia were clamoring for independence during the 1980’s, and this clamoring reached a feverish pitch by 1991. The Solidarity movement in Poland, strengthened by the prayers and actions of Pope John Paul II, encouraged many. Soon, communist countries were falling like dominoes and people were once again allowed the cherished right to practice their religion publicly. I foretold both the rise and fall of communism in Russia and the conversion of Russia at Fatima in 1917.
