About this ebook
A series of short stories that takes you on one woman’s journey, from a devastating childhood, through teenage alcoholism, a heart-wrenching love relationship, to her near-death experience, and the insights that were gained. Her strength and determination to overcome came from an awareness of something greater than herself.
For some it takes a long time for the sun to come up and sometimes it feels like it never will. Whether you are at a crossroads in life, having a difficult time or just need reassurance that the Universe is truly on your side, When the Sun Comes Up provides understanding, hope and a new perspective, taking you on a journey where you may see reflections of yourself.

I have decided that the third quarter of my life is going to be different. Up until recently my life was about blending in, "being normal". Normal is not a word I would have used as a description of my life, although, I have raised two loving sons that I am very proud of. "When the Sun Comes Up" is my first literary attempt. It is a series of true experiences and the lessons I learned from these experiences. Writing is something that I enjoy so stay tuned for my next offering... My new book is a romance, work in progress, not yet titled... Sam was a catch in every woman’s imagination, good looking, prosperous, outgoing and a humanitarian. Izzy reappeared from his past. Unknown to Sam, she holds a deep dark secret. Can the whispers in their hearts be enough to unlock and overcome the darkness that overshadows Izzy?

FOREWORD
Hello and thank you for choosing my ebook, ‘When the Sun Comes Up.’ Within these pages are a few of my true life stories and circumstances that have changed my life, and shaped me into the person I am today. Each story is followed by a Universal lesson. It would be good to know that each story/circumstance came with the wisdom of more than one lesson from the Universe, however I chose the lesson that I deemed most important.
Adversity is the word of the day. Most of humanity refuses to learn without hardship. I was no exception. You could say that at times I was a slow learner. Some lessons I repeated several times before clueing-in
. My saving grace was God, and the souls, both in and out of embodiment, who helped me. Recognizing this help is a challenge; it is not always easy to see a door or window open when you are in the throes of despair.
As you read my stories, may the spark within you ignite, radiating your light, inspiring you and nurturing you.
Live from Your Heart,
Anya

PART ONE
THERE ARE NO VICTIMS, ONLY VOLUNTEERS
THE SIXTIES
1961
In 1961 I was eight years old. Both my parents worked. My father was a long distance truck driver and my mom worked shift work in a factory. It had been that way for as long as I could remember. Mom’s cousin Caroline babysat the three of us, my brother James, who was a year younger than me and my sister Casey, who was five years my junior. As babysitters go Caroline was reasonably good. The only problem was that she had a heart condition. It was also in 1961 that Caroline passed on.
To replace her, Mom hired her brother Thomas. He was a senior in high school and eight years older than me. As Thomas didn’t know how to cook, it was my responsibility for cooking whatever she left out for us to eat. I would do the dishes and make sure the kids and I had a bath and went to bed for the night. Thomas was only there in case an emergency came up.
I liked Thomas. He played the guitar and had a great singing voice. Everyone said he should try to turn professional, he really was that good. Thomas would perform for me and he always treated and spoke to me with kindness and affection.
One night Thomas came to my room. That was the beginning of the abuse. There are no details. To this day I don’t remember most of it. I always took myself to another place.
1963
I was ten when I confronted Thomas and told him that I wouldn’t allow him to do those things to me anymore. He replied by walking over to my five-year-old sister’s bed, pulling back her covers and telling me it was her or me, my choice. As I looked at her tiny body asleep I had no choice but to continue. After all, I was the big sister and it was my responsibility to keep her safe.
The years of abuse began taking a physical toll on my body. I suffered from psoriasis, migraine headaches and weight gain. Not to mention, I was becoming more introverted by the day, a far cry from the outgoing child I once was.
School was my one love since it was the only place I could lose myself in the work.
At bedtime I was terrified to fall asleep as I wanted to know when Thomas was coming and also because of the continuous nightmare. Night after night I would dream I was being chased by Thomas. He had a gun in his hand and I knew if he caught me or cornered me he would kill me. Every night in my sleep I ran for my life.
It was no wonder I was an emotional and physical wreck. Finally, I got up the courage to tell my Dad. At this point I really didn’t care if he beat me to death; I welcomed death.
A few nights later, I found Dad sitting at the kitchen table doing paper work. Taking a deep breath, I walked over to him and announced I had a problem and didn’t know what to do. Dad snapped back that I didn’t know what problems were and what kind of problems could a ten year old kid have. Deal with it.
When I told him I didn’t know how, he told me to figure it out and promptly dismissed me. Defeated and on the verge of tears I hid out in my room. There was no hope! I didn’t know what else to do.
1965
It has been four years. In the beginning Thomas was so kind and caring but now he is harsh and treats me very badly.
One night while lying in bed, I heard a male voice, not Thomas’ voice; it was the voice on the phone. For the last four years a friend of Thomas’ would phone. When I asked who was calling the voice told me it was none of my business, just put Thomas on. That voice was now in my house talking to Thomas, and the two of them were walking down the hallway towards me.
Quickly I grabbed the blanket at the foot of my bed, wrapped it as tightly as I could around me and threw myself on my bed, face down.
They were now standing beside my bed whispering. Thomas was telling me to roll over. When that didn’t work, he attempted to roll me over. All the while I am praying... God help me. Please God help me!
Thomas was now tugging at the blanket. The voice was telling Thomas to forget it, but Thomas was losing his temper because I
