About this ebook
Message in a bottle.
Somewhere in the cobwebbed cellar of the decrepit antebellum mansion known as Ballineen are the legendary Lee bottles -- and Austin Gillespie is there to find them. The last thing on his mind is hot and heavy romance with handsome bad boy Jeff Brady. But Jeff has other ideas and, after one intoxicating night, so does Austin.
The only problem is they have different ideas. Jeff doesnít believe in love at first sight, and even if he did, heís buried more deeply in the closet than those famous missing bottles of vintage Madeira. Popping a cork or two is one thing. Popping the question? No way. No how.
Unless Austin is ready to give up on another dream, heís going to have to figure out how to make sure the lights go on -- and stay on -- in Georgia.

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I loved this book right up to the pointless threesome scene. I get what the character was trying to accomplish, but all I got out of it was that he was a selfish asshole. I actually hated the character, probably one of the first times it has happened.
That being said, the drop in rating is not because the character (an asshole can be well written), but that we had a quick everything solved in a few paragraphs ending. The author is so much better than that. Read the book, but stop at 84%, you can come up with a more satisfying ending. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I really like Josh Lanyon's books and this was no exception :)
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Short, sweet, funny read. The Cashels ARE crazy and Austin and Jeff both wormed their way into my heart. First thing I've read by this author but it won't be the last. :)
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Some people have criticised the sex scene, my main problem was the ending.
There needed to be more between that scene and the end. I never got to really feel how he processed that in his brain or why they would get together afterwards.
It felt rushed. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Another book by Josh Lanyon which left me wanting more. MORE. The shortness is what cost it that one star.
Without giving away too much, it is my feeling that it is the short length which made the resolution slightly less satisfying than what could have been. As always the descriptions, the characters and the ideas behind this story are genuine Lanyon and so engaging. Unlike several reviewers I do not mind m/f scenes in my gay romances, in fact it was refreshing to have one in there showing just what can happen if someone is living too deeply in the closet. But the author here gave us not just a bisexual character, he also dared thematise hooking up vs. emotional/romantic feelings and how a gay man would deal with suddenly coming up short against his own emotions.
A complicated and lovely story, with a good mystery as well, which I'd have loved reading at double the length! - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Josh Lanyon is not only one of my favorite authors of m/m romance, but one of my favorite authors in general. His books are almost always 4 stars (or more) for me, and [A Vintage Affair] is no exception. While the couple follows the usual pattern of Lanyon's books (the main character is an educated, bookish type and the love interest a closeted blond detective) there are enough differences to make it interesting. The lead, Austin, is a master of wine, which makes for some great wine-related facts and metaphors. His love interest, Jeff, comes across as a bit of a jerk (there's a particularly uncomfortable threesome scene) but at the very end his vulnerabilities and true personality finally show through and he becomes more sympathetic. The mystery is not very intriguing and kind of tacked on as an afterthought, but the kooky Southern gothic atmosphere is charming. I gave the book 4 stars instead of 5 because I would have wished to see the relationship between the characters, and particularly Jeff's personality, develop more. The book was too short. I would definitely read a sequel if Lanyon writes one.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5An old Southern plantation. Wine. Murder. An attractive closeted private investigator. Family drama. Elements that make for a great read. When Austin Gillespie arrived at Ballineen, he certainly didn't expect an eventful visit, but he definitely ends up with more than he bargained for.
Josh Lanyon is definitely an expert storyteller. He develops very strong characters and creates worlds that almost leave you wondering if there's more than a hint of truth in the story. This one is no exception. It's an m/m romance that doesn't skip or avoid the complicated bits, which I definitely appreciate, but it also delivers everything a romance novel should. Highly recommended. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The least favorite Josh Lanyon book so far.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Not completely sure about this one. Not because of the m/f/m scene (there was a warning after all!) but just something in the story didn't click with me. It felt rather rushed, unpolished and definitely unfinished. Sorry, but not Josh's best work in my opinion at all.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Well. I don't even know how to start this review. I guess I'll do it by saying that the story itself is so charming that I only count the sex scenes as a bonus. I'm serious, the main romance is cute and pleasant, the characters are charming, the background mystery is intriguing (though the closing of the whole murder thing was kinda silly). For a love story, it was adorable.
