    You Changed Me

    Chapter One

They are gone! Oh! They are gone. They have vanished with all that I have laboured for all these years. Mr Chin Fred groaned and then he collapsed to the floor. His wife Janet and his daughter - the beautiful Rosamond - rushed him to the hospital. He awoke from the shock and his wife and daughter tried to comfort him.

Dad, you ought not lament over it, Rosamond said. We are all lucky that we are not harmed. You are still alive and healthy. It is just one of the thorns of life. Everything will be O.k.

Yeas dear I agree, her dad replied. We have to be thankful that our lives were spared. I know how you fell but take it easy.

My dears, Mr Chin said when they got back home from the hospital. Thanks for your concern. I shall do my best to forget it, but for now, I will like to be left alone. So they left him alone in the sitting room. Rosamond went straight to her bedroom. She needed to ruminate over something that had been troubling her since the armed robbers left their home.

One of the gangsters has stolen her heart. She dared not let anyone know about it. She lay down peacefully on her bed and the scene came back to her mind.

Do not shoot anybody, one of the armed robbers said after they burst into the house. That is going to be foolish. Get whatever money he has and nothing else.

Damn you Max, another of the robbers replied angrily. What the hell are you talking about? This man has got to go!

Yea man, let us kill him and his damn family, another member of the group shouted as he raised his gun, ready to fire.

No! the leader of the gang spoke once more. I say you dare not disobey me. They are innocent.

The other guys had wanted her family’s blood, and strangely, this young handsome gangster had refused. She kept on wondering who the man was. She wanted to meet him again. Something moved inside her when their eyes met. All the others had masks on their faces but not him. He was like an angel among thieves.

But how will meet him again? How would she tell her mum about her plans? Seeking out a man who had recently robbed her father! Yet, she really longed to see him. She began acting so strangely that her mum noticed. Her mum called to her room one evening and said:

Rosa, there is something bothering you and I will like to know. What is the matter?

Nothing mum, I am fine. She said insincerely.

My queen, Janet said. You know all is not well with you. Tell me. I am your mother and your friend. We have never hidden anything from each other. What is eating you up?

Oh! How she wished she could answer her mum and tell her the truth. She knew it was stupid. However, deep down, she felt a great longing to meet the strange man again.

Janet has been thinking so much about her daughter. She thought she might be in love. It was fine with her if her daughter was in love. The only problem was that, she cared so much about her daughter and she was desperate to know exactly what was bothering her.

Maybe she has been hurt in love. Turning to her daughter, she asked, Are you in love? That four-word phrase was exceedingly strong. Rosa opened her eyes very wide and then she closed them. She would usually tell her mother
