Two severly disabled American Veterans discover a doorway into the remote human past, that leads them into a primeval forest. They quickly find themselves living in a large cave among a tribe of Neanderthals.

As most authors might claim, I was always been a natural storyteller and voracious book reader. Somehow, I also knew that some day I would sit down and write a book, which I did quite recently. When I finally sat in front of my computer monitor to do just that, the words literally came pouring out. Before very long, I had written many books in various genres. At first, my prolific writing was mainly for the pleasure and self-entertainment involved, until I discocered Smashwords and ebooks, and here I am, a published author with a long list of books to my credit. And many more to come.

    Doorway to Another Time

    Chapter One

Eric Parker entered the office of Dr. Woods at Bethesda Naval Hospital, moving with difficulty with the aid of two crutches on which he was leaning heavily with every step he took. He had suffered multiple injuries when his SEAL team had ambushed and decimated a sizeable Taliban force in Afghanistan, where he was heavily wounded in both legs. When he was first brought to the hospital the doctors were afraid that he might lose both legs but, luckily, no amputation was necessary since he responded well to the multiple surgeries that he had undergone, and six months after the last operation he was able to start therapy to restore his movements, hopefully back to normal.

Dr. Woods smiled and indicated for him to sit on the examination bench, after which he gave his legs a thorough check up. When he was finished, he sat down and entered the information into the medical file.

So how did it feel, Eric, to be poked by me so much?

It hurt like hell, Doctor, but a lot less than last week.

Which means that you're healing quite nicely, but then I'm not surprised considering that you're just barely twenty-three years old and were in excellent physical shape when you were hit, Sergeant.

You got to work on your body to keep it in peak shape when you're a SEAL, you know.

Yes, of course. But most of all it's your tough mental attitude that allowed you to overcome having been injured so severely.

Eric grinned. Which, Doctor, goes along with the physical part of what makes a SEAL a SEAL. In any case, where do we go from here?

You need to undergo serious therapy for a while, I'd say for at least six months.

And then what? Will I be able to return to active duty or will I be medically discharged as a permanent cripple?

We don't use that word nowadays, Eric. It'll hopefully be active duty because of your great stamina, but I can't guarantee anything at this point.

Understood, Sir. Where will I go through this special therapy?

Not here, that's for sure. What the Veterans Administration had done to facilitate the needs of people such as yourself was to contract with a few civilian therapy clinics located in dry warm or hot climes that would help your limbs, particularly your torn up leg muscles and ligaments, heal further.

In other words, out of the damp and slushy weather around here?

Exactly. Like in Southern California, Arizona, or Nevada, which will be your choice to select.

    Where in California?

"Palm springs, which is a great location because the
