Introduction
When St. Francis of Assisi lived in the small Italian city of Gubbio, a wolf roamed its outskirts, terrorizing the population. The brutal predator attacked and killed not only animals but men who ventured off into the countryside.
The city’s population lived in fear.
St. Francis, wanting to help, set off after the wolf.
His followers refused to go along, preferring to stay a safe distance back, as Francis walked into the hills. It was from this comfort zone where they witnessed a miracle.
They saw the wolf, mouth open in attack, run toward Francis. Showing no fear, Francis made the sign of the cross and commanded the wolf into obedience.
The small crowd, far behind Francis, saw the wolf approach the Saint to lie down meekly at his feet.
They heard Francis speak to the wolf:
Brother Wolf, you’ve done much evil in this land, destroying and killing God’s creatures: not only other animals, but you’ve dared to kill men, made after the image of God, for which you’re worthy of being hanged like a robber and a murderer. All men cry out against you, dogs pursue thee, and all the inhabitants of this city are your enemies. But I will make peace. Brother Wolf, you will harm them no more and they shall forgive your past offenses; neither men nor dogs will pursue you anymore.
Francis, with the wolf at his side, walked past his followers and into Gubbio where, in front of town’s folk, he struck bargain
Since the wolf attacked because it was hungry, Francis argued, the town would routinely feed the wolf and in return the wolf would never harm either man or beast again.
Both sides lived up to the deal: the wolf never struck again.
The teachings of St. Francis love the animals like brothers
are reflected in the work of Marcel Benedeti, a young veterinarian who is an example for us all.
In this book, ALL ANIMALS GO TO HEAVEN, Benedeti shows how God’s love for his creation reaches out to all of us. No one is alone; everything is part of a long evolutionary process which is a part of God’s creation.
There’s been much scientific research on animal intelligence; many books have been written, many thesis published. But Marcel goes beyond the research; he shows us how deep the love and bond between animals and humans. Even if we, humans are ungrateful the animals forgive us and show us by example that We Are All Brothers

CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION TO MARCEL BENEDETI
As each member of the graduating class takes his diploma, the audience applauds. The five hundred people, sitting in the auditorium, proudly watch their sons and daughters become doctors of veterinary science.
Marcel’s own family was there, among the crowd. Mother, father and sisters proudly seeing years of sacrifice successfully come to an end. Theirs was a working class family and the road here had not been easy.
But, today was the pay off. He had become a vet. Marcel strode across the stage, turned to the audience, spotted his family and thanked them; a smile radiating across his face as he clutched the diploma.
As he beamed at his family he noticed three strangers, standing next to his parents, waving back at him.
One wore a dark brown robe. A polished, shiny wooden cross dangled from the thick rope tied around his waist. Maybe, he thought, it was a priest, who was a friend of his parents.
The second one, standing besides to the priest, was dressed in white, like a doctor and in one hand he held a book, and in the other a small fox terrier. He too was waving.
The third person was dressed in a perfectly tailored blue suit and stood next to the other two. All three of these strangers applauded and smiled along with his family.
The graduate, for a brief second, shifted his eyes from the trio back to his family. When his eyes returned to the trio, they were gone.
His parents, completely unaware of what had taken place, continued in their loud and enthusiastic clapping as their son walked off the stage, returning to sit with his fellow graduates.
The ceremony over, Marcel made his way through the crowd to his family while keeping his eyes out for the three strangers
Out of the corner of his eye, he saw one of them: the man dressed in white smiled from the far end of the auditorium. The new vet wanted to go him but the crowd blocked his way. And once again, the man in white vanished.
But soon, he’d discover who they were. Until the day he died he remembered this scene.
It was early morning. Marcel jumped out of bed. The entity, dressed as a Franciscan monk stood in the middle of his bedroom.
The unexpected visitor, in a soothing voice, calmed the young man, and introduced himself.
We’ve known each other in past lives,
he continued, I’ve never shown myself before, only at your graduation. Now, the time has come
You don’t have to be afraid,
the spirit continued, From here on, we’re going to work together.
The entity explained he was a Franciscan monk and he was here because he and Marcel, on the Other side
had agreed to work together when Marcel reincarnated.
I’ll be a friend you can count on for advice,
the monk/spirit said.
The monk was dressed like he was at the graduation, hood and all. He was short and frail but Marcel knew that the spirit’s strength came from the wisdom and knowledge it carried within.
The monk had been at Marcel’s side since he was born.
The same was true with the man in white, the spirit who carried a book and a dog with him. This spirit, in a past life, and been a vet too, and would be with Marcel to counsel and inspire the newly graduated vet.
The years passed: the young man married, became a father, opened his own clinic and led a calm and peaceful life with his wife and daughter. They were his earthly treasures. A few years later, he became a father again; twice as a matter of fact.
His wife was very spiritual, she introduced him to the Spiritist Doctrine.
At first, he didn’t quite understand it all, found it strange; but aware of the spirit friends who were at his side, he adopted the Doctrine on face value, never bothering to dig deeper.
All he wanted to do is to go with his wife to the meetings: nothing more. He was focused on his practice and children. In spite of his wife’s repeated pleas for him to study deeper, he resisted.
Slowly, however, he relented and joined a study group at a local Spiritist Association. He found the topics interesting and began to probe. He read more and THE SPIRIT’S BOOK by Allan Kardec at it became his favorite bedside reading, finding answers to day to day questions.
As a vet, however, he wanted to understand what the doctrine had to say about his favorite subject: animals and discovered it wasn’t very much. Could it be, he thought, that there wasn’t that much information about animals, because the world wasn’t ready to understand. He discovered a few books but none of them described how animals lived, or were treated, on The Other Side.
At his clinic he was peppered with questions from his clients: why do animals suffer so much? Do they live after death? Do they reincarnate? Do they have souls or spirits, and are they taken care of? The vet’s curiosity intensified with every book he read but he could not find the answers he was looking for.
At the first chance he had, the asked his spirit guide, the Francsican Monk, to help him in his search.
The answer was short and sweet: Not yet!
And although frustrated by the answer, the vet didn’t dare to question. He waited. But, on his own, he continued looking for his answers.
It was during this time of research and questioning when Marcel discovered he had hepatitis C; incurable and deadly. He had picked it up in 1978 from a blood transfusion following a near fatal car crash. His doctor told him he could die within two years. The man was crushed.
Once again, he turned to the Franciscan Monk. He asked if he would be well received on The Other Side,
when his time came. The monk answered it was not time to worry about it, there was still a lot of work for the vet to do.
Those words did not help. The young vet was certain his days were numbered, but the monk reminded him
Life is eternal, Marcel,
the monk said, Get on with your life and stop thinking about what might happen. It’s a waste of time and only attracts negative energy your way.
The monk’s words had no effect.
Marcel Benedeti suffered. He felt he wasn’t ready to die, he hadn’t left anything behind. The vet wasn’t afraid of dying, as a matter of fact, he told the monk that once he crossed over, he’d be eager to send back information about the animals he was sure he’d find.
The mentor laughed, saying he was expecting Marcel to say that.
Don’t worry,
the monk comforted, You’ve got quite a few years left to go. And,
he added, you don’t have to cross over to get those answers you’re looking for.
Marcel was relieved and asked the monk to help him find, while he was still on earth, the answers he was looking for.
Fine,
the Franciscan answered. You can start by reading and studying everything you can find. Take notes, write them down, everything. It will be a reference for you, in the future.
Happy to finally start, Marcel threw himself into his assignment. It took him four years to finish noting, compiling and referencing his research and questions.
Finally, the monk said they were ready.
Marcel waited for some spirit guide, some entity to come and start rattling off the knowledge he was seeking
Months passed. Nothing. No sign, no hint, no apparitions. Nothing. Not even the monk came around. Marcel was confused.
Until one day the vet, upon waking up, felt something pushing him to pick up a pen. He was anxious, euphoric and sensed he was on the verge of something new.
Arriving at his office, he sat at his desk and picked up a pen. He knew he was being guided by some invisible force as the first words drew themselves out on paper. Marcel felt numbed, a floating sensation taking control of his physical body. He shut himself off from the world around him; the noisy sound of traffic ceased to exist. He was alone.
Time and space meant nothing.
His hands wrote and wrote on the paper and in his mind vivid, emotional scenes played out before him. They were real, he could almost reach out and touch what he saw. He took it all in as the words continued to flow from his hands through the pen onto the paper.
His receptionist looked on, as he scribbled feverishly on the paper in front of him. She knew something was going on and cancelled all his appointments for the day.
Finally, after jotting down literally thousands of words, he returned to normal. Everything around him was changed: the colors and sounds of his office were intense, vibrant and radiant; the movies in his mind stopped and the words of the spirit narrating them silent.
He tried but could not remember what he wrote.
The best thing to do, he thought, was to take up the pages and read what he had wrote. .
It was the story of a horse, a thorough bred mare named Paloma, who had returned to the Other Side.
As he read, he understood. This was what he was looking for all these years, this was the information he had so persistently and diligently sought.
The very next day the urge to pick up a pen returned. And so did the scenes playing out in his mind. Finally, he would be able to describe how his beloved animals lived in the Spirit World: the world after death.
He became involved with each and every one of the characters in the story: Paloma, Beauty, Bob, Sofia and all the others. He was surprised to find out animals existed in even in the Shadowlands and disappointed and angered to learn that even on the other side, there were those who abused and mistreated them.
When he finished reading, Marcel came to the conclusion there was a lot to be learned and understood from animals; lessons of patience, humility and acceptance. He was sure they were truly our brothers and was certain, once and for all, they are well taken care of when they cross over to the other side.
As a new era of understanding approaches, humans are more prepared to accept and understand that the animals are our younger brothers and we are responsible for setting an example for them.

CHAPTER TWO
ANIMALS
It’s three in the morning and a soft breeze whistles through the pine trees surrounding the ranch. A full moon reflects its rays off a small lake, where horses munch on dew wet grass. The bright moonlight shows night creatures flitting in the sky, casting their shadows on the ground. Bats dived and turned in the night air, and owls, perched high in the pine trees had their large round eyes fixed on lanterns lighting up the nearby stables where three men were hard at work.
The men speak in hushed whispers, they didn’t
