Water signs: Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces: Emotional, sensitive and intuitive. The water signs have the ability to tune into the unseen and to have deep emotional connections to others.

    Qualities

    (Also called quadruplicities or modes)

Cardinal signs: Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn: These signs begin on the date and time of the change to a new season. Aries: spring equinox; Cancer: summer solstice; Libra: autumnal equinox; Capricorn: winter solstice. The cardinal signs are action-oriented and display initiative and energy. They like to get things accomplished and are skilled at starting things. An overabundance of these qualities can lead to bossiness or losing interest once they get something started. (Note: the seasons listed above are for the northern hemisphere. In the southern hemisphere, the seasons are reversed, e.g. when it is the spring equinox in the northern hemisphere, it is the autumnal equinox in the southern hemisphere.)

Fixed signs: Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius: These are the signs that are in the middle of each season. They are persistent, resourceful, magnetic and determined. The fixed signs bring stability, staying power and follow-through to the world. They are good at building stable and secure structures and often seem to have an unshakeable sense of themselves. An overabundance of these qualities can lead to stubbornness, inflexibility and a refusal to change.

Mutable signs: Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces: These signs are at the end of each season. They are versatile, adaptable, changeable and open to new ideas. Mutable signs are skilled at adapting quickly to life’s situations. An overabundance of mutable energy can lead to constant change, indecision, scattered energies and frayed nerves.

    Houses

There are twelve houses. Each house represents an area of your life.

First House: You, your identity, outer appearance, general health, vitality, confidence, personal desires and initiative.

Second House: Your personal resources, security, money, possessions, values, talents, skills and self esteem.

Third House: Your mental outlook and abilities, where you speak, write and learn, short trips, gathering and distributing information, siblings, neighbors and your local environment.

Fourth House: Your private life, home, family, people with whom you live, land, real estate, roots and your inner foundation.

Fifth House: Your creative self-expression, love, romance, love affairs, social life, entertainment, speculation, art, drama, music, children and recreation.

Sixth House: Your everyday work and routine, health, healing, exercise, pets, duties and the service you provide to others.

Seventh House: Your one to one relationships, marriage, business partners, significant others, advisors, counselors, public relations, contracts, agreements and those who openly oppose you.

Eighth House: Power, transformation, shared finances and assets, emotional and psychological support from others, sexuality, birth, death, wills and inheritances, secrets, mysteries, psychic energy, surgery and healing.

Ninth House: Your worldview, opinions, spiritual beliefs, travel, foreign countries, law, ethics, publishing, and higher education.

Tenth House: Your career, outer world pursuits, vocation, reputation, social standing, public life and achievements.

Eleventh House: Your friends, like-minded groups, causes, humanitarian interests, kindred spirits, hopes and plans for the future.

Twelfth House: Your inner self, solitary activities, spiritual exploration, intuition, compassion, connection to Oneness, places away from the world, such as hospitals and retreats, in which you turn inward, rest or recover,

The houses in this guidebook use your sun sign as the first house. This works because your sun sign is your basic essence and core self. If you know the exact time of day you were born, a natal birth chart can be drawn up by an astrologer. In this chart your first house will be your rising sign and will provide you with much more detail about your life. The following explains what a rising sign (also called your ascendant) is. It is not necessary to understand this to use this guidebook. However, if you would like more information, see below. Otherwise, just read your sun sign.

    What is an Ascendant/Rising Sign?

When your birth chart is calculated for the exact time of day you were born, the first house will start with the sign that is rising (ascending) in the east at your moment of birth. This is called the ascendant or rising sign. Since the Earth does a complete rotation every 24 hours, each of the twelve signs will be rising at some point during each day. If you were born around sunrise, your ascendant will be the same sign as your sun sign because it is the sign that is rising, i.e. the Sun is rising. The rising sign will change about every two hours after sunrise. (This is a very broad rule of thumb. The two hour range can vary depending on the time of year)

Your ascendant determines your outer personality, the way others see you and your approach to life. If you know what sign your ascendant is, read both your sun sign and your ascendant sign forecast. Each will provide you with helpful information.

    Chapter 2: 2013 Astrological Data

    Notes:

The times used in this guidebook are for Mountain Time. Pacific Time is one hour earlier, Central Time is one hour later, and Eastern Time is two hours later. Adjustments have been made for Daylight Savings Time. Greenwich Mean Time is seven hours later (standard time), or six hours (Daylight Savings Time). Degrees shown for planetary positions have been rounded off to the nearest degree.

    Mercury Retrograde

    What Is It?

Many people have heard the phrase Mercury Retrograde, but may not be sure what it really means. It is not something to worry about, but it can be very helpful and save you from mix-ups and misadventures if you are aware of the dates it is in effect.

In astrology the planet Mercury is associated with the mind, the nervous system, speaking, learning, thinking, reasoning, memory, education, reading, information, communications, transportation, travel, commerce, buying and selling.

About three times a year from our perspective here on Earth, Mercury appears to slow down, stop, and then start to move backward and retrace its path in the sky. (It isn’t actually moving backwards, it just looks that way to us.) This apparent backward motion continues for about three weeks. During this period, we say Mercury is Retrograde (Rx). Then Mercury once again slows down, stops and resumes its forward movement, which is described as Mercury going Direct (Dir).

    What to Do?

When Mercury is retrograde it is time to pause and go back over things, rather than begin something brand new. Be alert in all forms of communication, transportation, travel and mental activities. Misunderstandings, miscalculations, mistakes and delays can occur more easily. Things started now may need to be redone later. Be clear in all communications and double-check your information. Don’t assume that others perceive the situation in the same way as you do. Stay flexible and be prepared for some surprises. You may find out that something you thought would turn out one way ends up being totally different than you expected.

Mechanical and technological devices like your vehicle or your computer may be a little wacky or need repairs. Large systems involving communication, transportation and commerce may experience breakdowns or delays. However, it doesn't mean all travel, technology and communications are affected, just that it is more likely now. Don't take anything for granted. Drive cautiously. If you must sign something, be sure to read the fine print and verify that everyone understands and agrees on the terms. As long as you are clear and careful, you will be fine.

When Mercury is retrograde, stop and look around at your life. See what needs to be finished, repaired, researched, revised or reevaluated. It is also a good time for cleaning, sorting, organizing and clearing out. It can be a serendipitous time, too, when fun, surprising and exciting events happen.

    Mercury Retrograde dates in 2013

The Mercury Retrograde periods in 2013 all occur in the water signs. These are the signs of emotion, intuition and inner development. This means that the retrograde periods in 2013 will have more of an emotional, sensitive and inward nature than usual.

    February 23 to March 17* (5 to 20° Pisces)

    June 26 to July 20* (13 to 26° Cancer)

    October 21 to November 10* (2 to 18° Scorpio)

    * The effects of Mercury Retrograde are often the strongest around the beginning and the end dates shown below. The four days just before the retrograde phase begins and just after it ends can be quite unsettled. Because Mercury Retrograde will be in the sensitive and feeling water signs this year, the possibility of emotional turmoil at those times is indicated. It also can take up to three weeks after the retrograde phase ends to tie up all the loose ends of the activities that occurred during the retrograde phase.

Chapter 3: New Moon and Birthday Ceremony

    At the New Moon

This is a good way to state your intentions to the Universe each month. You cam do your ceremony anytime from a few minutes after the New Moon up to two days afterwards. You are planting seeds. It will take care and attention for your little seedlings to grow. This is an inner, spiritual and tender time. The seeds will blossom at the Full Moon a couple of weeks later.

Some New Moons will be more powerful than others, depending on your own birth chart. The New Moon that occurs in your birth sign each year will be one of those times. If the New Moon actually occurs on your birthday, the year ahead will be significant in your life. A new or revitalized life direction could begin in the coming year.

Solar eclipses also occur at the New Moon. There are at least two solar eclipses a year, but there can be up to five (this is very rare, the last time was 1935 and the next time will be 2206). 2013 will have two solar eclipses. A Solar Eclipse/New Moon indicates the end of one set of circumstances and the beginning of another. Surprises and unsettled conditions can occur around this time. In fact, a Solar Eclipse will be in effect for at least three months and sometimes up to a year. If you have a Solar Eclipse on your birthday, the year ahead will be a time of change for you. Be gentle with yourself and let things unfold naturally.

    On Your Birthday

You can also do this ceremony on your birthday each year. This one is focused on the Sun rather than the Moon. Your birthday is the day when the Sun returns to the part of the zodiac where it was on the day you were born. (The precise alignment can actually vary a day from year to year, but for these purposes, your original birth date will be just fine. If you want to be exact you will need to obtain a solar return chart.)

The Sun has a more dynamic and active energy than the Moon and this is a good time to focus on your vitality and life force. It is an excellent time to think about what you want to unfold in your life during the year ahead. Feel a sense of gratitude for your life, physically connect to the energy in your body, connect with your Spirit and the joy of being alive. Think about all the years you have traveled on the Earth as it made its journey around the Sun. Honor the life you have been given. Feel that source of energy flowing through you as you do the ceremony below. Be prepared -this can be a very powerful ceremony and can bring results quite quickly.

This is a life-affirming ceremony and you can do by yourself every year on your birthday. You might want to keep a birthday journal and keep track of what you want to manifest and what has happened over the past year of your life.

    Ceremony Ideas

There are many ways to do a ceremony. It can be simple or elaborate. You can do whatever is comfortable for you and suits your personality and belief system. The most important factor is your intent. One caveat – be careful what you wish for, because you are likely to get it. The following are just some ideas – feel free to make up your own:

First, clarify what you would like to manifest in your life. Write out your intentions ahead of time, so they are clear in your mind. Think BIG. It is fun to write each intention on a separate strip of paper for use in the ceremony.

Set up a sacred space area where you will have privacy. This can be very simple – from your kitchen table to a space outside in nature. Make sure the area is clean and clear. You could also do some clearing with a smudge stick. Do whatever makes it feel right for you. Decorate this space with things that are special to you – crystals, stones, pictures, books or sacred objects, etc.

Prepare yourself. Take a shower or bath. Wear something that feels comfortable and makes you feel good.

Add ambience – music, candles, incense. It is good to include the four elements: fire, earth air and water. A table fountain or a flower or candle floating in a bowl of water would be nice. Having some pure water to drink would also be good. Fire could be a candle or feeling the heat and warmth of the Sun. Rocks, crystals or plants can represent the earth. Air is all around us. Breathing deeply and having a feather or something to interact with the air will work. Go for it – allow yourself to be mystical, honor your intuitive side and be open to the Divine.

Now do a little ceremony. You can make up your own ceremony if you want. Do whatever feels right to you. Here are some ideas that work well and can serve as a template:

It is important to focus your attention and connect with your Inner Self and Spirit. Begin with a prayer/meditation of your own choosing. This can be something simple. The main thing is your intent. It is always good to affirm that anything you say, do or experience will be for your highest and best good and for the highest and best good of anyone who is affected in any way.

Now you need to state your intentions. A fun thing to do is to take a strip of paper on which you have written an intention, read it out loud and then burn that strip of paper in the candle. As it burns, picture your intention releasing its energy into the world, and say So be it! Say it with feeling. It’s really empowering and quite fun.

You could also bury your papers in the earth, scatter ashes in a body of water or over the earth - or anything else that feels right to you.

When you are done, say a prayer of gratitude and release.

Keep a notebook close by for the next several days and write down any ideas, hunches, dreams and intuitive flashes that come to you. Then let things unfold.

    Chapter 4: 2013 World Forecast

    Worldwide Radical Social Restructuring Continues

    Transiting Uranus and Pluto

The world will continue to experience the powerful planetary energies of global change and transformation that have been in effect for several years. This worldwide influence can be described as radical social restructuring - an unraveling and then a re-weaving of social, economic, political, environmental and governmental structures and foundations. We began to experience the edge of this evolving and massive global psyche energy system in 2008. In 2011 the energies got stronger and gained momentum. In 2012 they began to operate at full strength. In 2013 they will escalate and will remain very intense through 2015, and then gradually lessen by 2020.

These energies will be particularly unrelenting from July 2013 through May 2014. The turmoil in the world will reach a peak at that time. This will be a period of very significant tests and challenges for the USA. All world governments, economies, large systems and institutions will no longer be able to avoid making profound changes. The good news is this will provide us with a great opportunity to actively tackle the issues at hand and start making progress. There will be some positive planetary energies in 2013 that can be very helpful, if we choose to use them. If we don’t take advantage of these opportunities and make major transformative changes willingly, they will very likely be forced upon us by a major world crisis.

As old structures begin to fall away, new possibilities will open up for us collectively and personally. Change can happen very rapidly. This will be both unnerving and exciting. Innovation, unexpected twists and turns, sudden ideas and events can reveal new potentials that take us by surprise. As we watch national and world events unfold, it will be helpful to consult our astrological map and remember that we will be walking a path of transformation for several more years. Trying to fix the current systems quickly and get back to normal is not going to work. This is the time for change and radical restructuring. It is a process that takes time. We won’t be able to see the end result during the actual transformation. Focus on being present in the moment. Tune into the Love that resides in your heart; know that we are One, and that all is well.

(Uranus in Aries will square Pluto in Capricorn: on May 20, 2013 and again on Nov 1, 2013. These will be the third and fourth squares in a series of seven from 2012 through 2015. Jupiter in Cancer will oppose Pluto and square Uranus in Aug 2013, Jan 2014 and Apr 2014.)

    Worldwide Spirituality, Idealism and Creativity

    Transiting Neptune

In February 2012, Neptune, planet of spirituality, dreams, visions, imagination, creativity, illumination, inspiration, empathy, idealism, illusion, and confusion moved into the sign that it rules: emotional and creative Pisces. It will stay in Pisces until February 2026.

During the next 13 years all of us will be feeling and sensing these otherworldly energies more directly than has been our experience in the past, which can be disorienting at times. Neptunian energies are very subtle and elusive and can be challenging to use. They can sometimes result in misguided or fanatical emotional beliefs and actions - the classic true believer. However, for most of us, an increasing feeling of compassion, spirituality, idealism, creativity, psychic awareness and sensitivity will quietly swirl around and slowly permeate our consciousness. In general there will be a desire to connect with something bigger than ourselves. Many will begin to understand that we are all connected on a spiritual level. There could also be scientific discoveries that validate mystical experiences.

In 2013, we will have opportunities in February and March to tune into our idealistic and spiritual side. From mid-May through July we can use our imagination, creativity and compassion to find practical solutions to our current challenges, both collectively and individually. (Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars in Pisces conjunct Neptune, sextile Pluto in Capricorn and trine Saturn in Scorpio in Feb and Mar. Saturn in Scorpio trine Neptune in Pisces: exact on Jun 11 and Jul 19, 2013. Jupiter in Cancer trine Neptune in Pisces: exact Jul 17, 2013)

    Worldwide Tests and Responsibilities

    Transiting Saturn

Of all the planets, Saturn’s transits seem to be the most strongly and consistently felt by just about everybody. That is because Saturn is the planet of reality. The influence of a Saturn transit manifests in the outer world in a concrete way that can’t be ignored.

In October 2012 the no-nonsense planet of Saturn moved into the tell-it-like-it-is sign of Scorpio and will stay until September 2015. There are many ways this energy can manifest. One is likely to be the world economy, especially pertaining to debt. No big surprise. Pick any of the concerns reflected in the headlines that never seem to end up in anything but a finger pointing contest. Those are the very areas that will reach a crisis point and demand real action.

Saturn in Scorpio tells us it is time to take responsibility. It will be necessary to be disciplined, determined, organized and realistic. And Saturn in Scorpio will be very serious about it. No excuses, period. Time to get down to business.

Saturn’s passage through Scorpio will also boost the transformative power of Pluto, currently in the sign of Capricorn and part of the radical social restructuring energies the world is currently experiencing. That’s because Saturn will be in Scorpio, the sign ruled by Pluto, and Pluto will be in Capricorn, the sign ruled by Saturn. In astrology we call this mutual reception. It’s like the rulers of two different countries switch places for a period of time. In this case, the countries already have good relations with each other and are likely to be supportive and helpful of each other’s aims. Saturn represents authority, responsibility, laws, governments, rules and regulations. Pluto represents power, purging, breakdown, intensity, profound change and renewal. With these two planets working together, we will see the transformative process speed up.

The most successful times to make positive and realistic changes will be January through March 2013, June-July 2013, September 2013 and December 2013. (Saturn sextile Pluto: exact on Dec 26, 2012, Mar 8, 2013 and Sep 20, 2013. Saturn in Scorpio trine Neptune in Pisces: exact on Jun 11 and Jul 19, 2013. Jupiter in Cancer trine Saturn in Scorpio: exact on Jul 17, 2013.)

    Worldwide Optimism and Expansion

    Transiting Jupiter

Jupiter is the planet of expansion, optimism and improvement. It’s like cosmic fertilizer. Whatever it touches grows.

Jupiter has been in Gemini since Jun 11, 2012 and will stay until Jun 24, 2013. Gemini energies are quick, communicative, mentally active, clever, curious, adaptable and versatile. Gemini is the information gathering and dispensing sign. During this period information technology will expand into new areas. People may find new ways of connecting and sharing information. Expanding our perceptions and learning new information is also likely. It’s interesting that the name of the NASA Rover that landed on Mars on Aug 5, 2012 is Curiosity.

On Jun 25, 2013 Jupiter will move into the sign of Cancer, where it will stay until Jul 15, 2014. Cancer’s energies are emotional, tenacious, sensitive, sympathetic, protective, nurturing, helpful, security conscious and family oriented. Jupiter in Cancer will expand and seek to improve issues related to real estate, families, women, children, food, agriculture, healthcare and security.

Jupiter will be in a challenging position to the powerful radical restructuring energies of Uranus and Pluto from Jul 2013 through May 2014. During this period, governments, world economies, large systems and institutions will no longer be able to avoid making profound changes. The need for change and transformation is very likely to expand during this period. This will provide us with many opportunities to tackle the issues at hand and start taking definite actions to resolve them.

    Chapter 5: Aries 2013 Forecast

    Aries: Radical Restructuring in 2013

The influence of transiting Uranus and Pluto

As discussed in Part 4, 2013 World Forecast, the world is going through a radical restructuring. This is also true for each of us in our personal lives. Aries is one of the signs that will be most dramatically affected by these energies. With transiting Uranus in Aries, the urge for change and liberation will be focused on who you are at your core being.

Transiting Pluto, planet of power and transformation, will bring a renovation in your tenth house of career and outer world path. You will feel that you simply must be you, in both your private life and your public life. Your public life can be a career, a vocation, a hobby, volunteer work or whatever you do out in the world.

You can reach a new point in power and authority in your career and reputation at this time, or you could realize you are not doing what you really want out in the world and decide to make a huge change in direction. Either way, your outer world pursuits will go through a restructuring. How much change occurs depends on how far away you are from your real desires and interests.

This cycle started in 2011 and will continue through 2019, but the strongest effects will be felt from 2012 through 2015. There will be a two to four year period of peak intensity for birth date.

Aries: Spirituality, Idealism and Creativity in 2013

    The influence of transiting Neptune:

Neptune will be influencing your twelfth house of inner self. Over the next 13 years your interest in meditation, dreams, mysticism, spirituality and inner exploration is likely to increase. Your intuition, compassion, empathy and urge to help others will also grow. This will be a very inspiring, idealistic, imaginative, creative and mystical period in your life. Keep in mind that it can also be confusing at times. Stay grounded and balanced through physical exercise, communing with nature or anything that helps to bring you down to earth.

Aries: Tests and Responsibilities in 2013

    The influence of transiting Saturn:

Saturn has been in Scorpio since October 5, 2012 and will stay until September 17, 2015. During this period Saturn will bring you new responsibilities in your eighth house, a very complex area of your life that is deep and often hidden. You are likely to find it necessary to make some adjustments in the way you deal with power, money and sex in your life. You will find it necessary to focus on some of the following issues: joint finances, property, debts; matters pertaining to death and dying such as wills and inheritances; shared feelings and support; sexuality; birth and rebirth; psychological and emotional transformation; healing; secrets; the paranormal and all that is mysterious and unknown. Saturn’s lessons could manifest in a variety of ways. One way is by bringing situations into your life that involve sharing and power – which will include not only sharing your money, resources and values, but also intimacy, sexuality and secrets.

You will feel optimistic and open-minded and will be able to see the silver lining in any clouds that come your way. You are likely to be very busy with errands and short trips. You could also become more involved with your siblings or neighbors. You will seek new information and mental stimulation. This will be a great time to take up a new study that will expand your perceptions. Knowledge you gain is likely to be of benefit to you in the future.

Jun 25, 2013 to Jul 15, 2014: Jupiter will be in your fourth house of home, family, real estate, your past, your childhood, your parents and your inner foundations.
