About this ebook
Zebrafish are beautiful, lively little aquarium fish that are easy to keep. Zebrafish are a great choice for your first aquarium, and the perfect starter fish for anyone who wants to try fish breeding.
This little book is written for anyone who keeps zebrafish at home, or who considers buying zebrafish. It combines advice for keeping and breeding zebrafish, with information drawn from scientific studies of zebrafish biology. The book is written in a simple, accessible style. You will find practical advice here as well as interesting information about how complex and interesting zebrafish are. The book also contains my own photographs showing zebrafish behavior and their life cycle. The images are in color, but they also work well on a black-and-white kindle screen.
The text answers questions such as: How can I breed zebrafish if I only have a single aquarium? Why do zebrafish sometimes fight? How do young zebrafish recognize their siblings among other zebrafish of the same age? Why do some zebrafish have spots instead of stripes?
Andreas Tjern
Andreas Tjern (born 1972) is the author of Meet the Zebrafish, a short introduction and guide for aquarium owners who keep or consider buying this attractive little fish. Andreas is an aquarium enthusiast who thinks several of the most common aquarium fish species, including zebrafish, are underestimated by many hobbyists. Because they are quite easy to keep and breed in an aquarium, they are also extensively studied by scientists. The wealth of knowledge that this research generates, makes the fish much more interesting to keep for hobbyists as well. Tjern wants to make some of this knowledge available, along with practical tips on keeping and breeding zebrafish. Andreas Tjern is currently writing a longer introduction to aquarium keeping and some of the best starter fish species. This book will initially be published in Norwegian. Andreas Tjern is an experienced writer who has among other things been the editor of a Norwegian magazine covering the science and policy of climate change, and another journal covering genetics and biotechnology. Under his full name Andreas Tjernshaugen, he has published a book on Norwegian energy policy, and contributions to several books in English as well as Norwegain on environmental, climate and energy issues. He has also published several articles on climate and energy policy in social science journals.
