    About the Author

    FOREWORD

What makes a great TV show? Extraordinary writing, a casting agent with a gutsy hunch, an appealing premise, good timing, or acting that naturally stirs ? Probably at least a few of the above mixed into one production.

A few years after a certain TV show had ended its run, I was relaxing home listening to the Glen Jones radio program when he said something about this certain show that struck me. Since he and his sidekick both grew up in Kearny, they discussed it often and his intuition led him to believe that the creator probably was not alone in developing the core ideas.

I had been somewhat reluctant to say anything to anyone about my input about the show up to this point. It seemed nearly everyone loved the show, setting aside time in their lives to watch it, turning it into a grand ritual. To make such a assertion that I, a lowly cab driver had anything to do with it would only mean trouble for me. So I kept it to myself until Jonesy commented on it. I would be willing to take a lie detector test to relay my humble honesty. Details of what I am talking about are in chapter 6.

A lot of the houses are very large mansions, each one having its own character. It also was blessed with a high density of massive trees towering everywhere, adding to the majestic feel. Of course there is a main drag in town which ends at the train station aka Station Square as well as an old Rialto movie theater which was renovated after a fire in the late 70's.

Route 17, starting in N.Y. state, ends in town at Route 3. As a kid, I often wondered what was beyond that point, looking rather nebulous off in the distance. It looked like a playground for Godzilla, with strange-looking hills (which are garbage dumps) and various, never-ending tracts of meadows and
