About this ebook
Author R. Mark Macy grew up in the Midwest as the son of schoolteachers. He spent 33 years with two Fortune 50 companies in the area of Information Technology. Since his first election as a class officer in junior high, Mark has had a passion for Leadership and seeing others become successful.
You will find Mark is very much like you. He has a family and two awesome beagles (Winston and Bailey). He is very involved in his community, active in his church, coaches kids’ sports, and works long hours on his job. And, yes, many times that means traveling for extended periods to ensure his projects finish on time and under budget. He attributes his M.B.A. and specialized training as a Covey facilitator as two key components in his personal development of becoming a leader.
Now he taps those experiences to pen his first Leadership book, which ties five Leadership keys to the acronym: “B-I-N-G-O.” The book is entitled “Leadership is not earned in the Free Space.” He dives into the five areas of Trust – Accountability – Communication – Goals - Recognition sharing personal insights and stories to challenge the reader to explore new levels of Leadership.
Mark has a unique ability to communicate truths through stories. His pallet contains those experiences that will have you laughing, sometimes crying and yet others wondering. Common ground with the reader allows him to connect and challenge you to explore new levels of Leadership!
As you read the pages, grab a pen and jot down some notes on action steps you might want to try in your quest to improve your Belief, Integrity, Networking, Goals, and Ovation. When it is all said and done, you will discover what can be accomplished in the “FREE SPACE.”
You can then join with others in yelling “B-I-N-G-O”!

I knew the minute that I met Mark Macy that I was fortunate to be in the presence of a star. There are many qualities too numerous to name, that endear him to me. If I had to choose one, it would be his enthusiasm. He is a pleasure to work with and very open to all kinds of options. Mark Macy is indeed, an extraordinary person and I consider him a living legend.

I am thrilled for the publishing of this book! This is yet another outlet for Mark to share his passion to educate. The results will be immeasurable! My challenge to the reader is to apply his
stories" to your life; be sure, and watch for the results!
Mark is one of the most inspirational people I have known. He has a story for any situation and can energize anyone. From coaching sports, leading life groups, missions’ trips, teaching Sunday school to running a global organization, his passion is the same. All aspects of life are a playing field for Mark.
He always has a story or trick up his sleeve to drive his message home. This passion is a true gift that Mark passes on to others. I have seen him turn careers
around and change people’s lives. Anyone who will listen to him will learn. These lessons were priceless for me!"
- Cindy Epperson, Retired, Senior Manager - Messaging and Technology Services, Computer Science Corporation, Bartlesville, Oklahoma
Mark has the unique ability to inspire members of his workgroup to be more productive while making their efforts seem fun. He is able to create ‘contagious enthusiasm’ better than any manager I know. I really envy his ability to inspire others through his ideas and stories.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
First, I owe a lifetime of gratitude to Erika, my wife of 35 years. Every man should have the constant solid rock of encouragement that she has been for me. She is the pride, joy, and love of my life. Erika – I love you!
Nathanael, my son, is as his name implies, a gift from God!
Erika and I can testify that he has filled our lives with fun, excitement, and joy. As you will read in the book, he has taught me a lot about being a father and enabled me to become the best I can be. Nathanael, thanks for being the son you are. I know there are great days ahead for you!
I must express my heartfelt appreciation to my Dad (now 81 years young) and Mom (now passed seven years). Their wisdom and love that was strong enough to put up with me and to ensure I did not get into too much trouble enabled me to have so many stories tied to life lessons. Every son in the world should envy me for having the parents that I do. Their Christian example every day provided me with Leadership Is Not Earned In The Free Space leadership beyond compare. Dad – I love you more than you’ll ever know!
To all of my career business colleagues and mentors who kept telling me to write a book and record my stories – I finally did it. Many thanks for the time you spent listening to me tell another story at a meeting or restaurant when you really wanted to go get some real work done! Here are just a few of those special folks that I spent many hours with away from home. Their constant friendship and support is more than a friend can ask for. They include Vicki Brooks, Brice Chism,
