Gyan Devi
As a single mom and first-generation, non-traditional, disabled student, Gyan Devi learned to self-navigate the higher-education system because she HAD to. In 2008, she graduated with a BA in Psychology, a Masters in Professional Coaching, a 3.79 GPA, and a mountain of debt. While in college, Gyan struggled to balance her studies and health issues. As tuition fees piled up, she found locating scholarships was confusing and overwhelming. There was so much information, she didn't know which sources to trust or how to begin. Sadly, she’s not alone. Each year, students like Gyan juggle schoolwork and grades, class attendance and part-time jobs, leaving little to no time for procuring precious scholarship money. Gyan devoted herself to tracking down scholarship information for students that she wished was easily available when she was in college. She believes students should have the opportunity to graduate without mortgaging their future or majoring in student debt. For the past ten years, Gyan dove into the world of higher-education funding, extensively researching legitimate scholarships, uncovering scholarship scams, learning how to effectively utilize search engines to save you time and money, and how to develop a Scholarship Portfolio necessary for winning scholarships. Gyan has been a self-employed educational consultant and publisher for 25 years and a professional coach for 14 years. The “Get a College Degree without Drowning in Debt” series is a direct result of her in-depth research and personal experience. When not writing and teaching, she enjoys wildcrafting herbs to make herbal remedies, drumming, Nordic skiing, and exploring Vermont’s swimming holes.
